What a Rancher Looks Like
It’s calving season on ranches around the West. For Maggie Schmidt, who grew up in Salt Lake City, it means cold, early mornings and cold, late nights. Maggie is a ranch manager in Deer Lodge, Montana and while there are moments she may still feel like an outsider, there usually isn’t time to worry about it. There is too much work to be done and always cows to be looked after.

Don’t think about she is going gain any weight for your comment😎
That lady is a real rancher! Cares about the livestock and not sitting in town drinking coffee, bellyaching about prices or gossiping.
Find something you truly love doing to make a living at,and you will not work a day in your life while doing it.Most people can not say they truly love what they are doing to make a living.Ranching is a awsome lifestyle. Ranching,Riding, and Roping. Ranch on for success and profitabilty.🇺🇸😃
I played the audio to your video 2 times before I actually viewed it, and remembered appreciating your voice, the long soft silent pauses, and the music choices. After having seen it for a couple of minutes, I thought “she must have 100,000 marriage proposals by now.” Only to find that your video has less than 700 views. You made my day today. Thank you. Don’t stop, you are very talented!
most people (most all) will never understand the dawn to dusk backbreaking labor of running a farm/ranch
This video has given me more confidence and confirmation in a recent career change. I am 52 years old and decided to get out of the corporate world and go back to my roots. I have recently taken a job as a ranch manager and have 3 men on my team. I am rusty and feeling a bit nervous about this huge change in my life but want to be the best ranch manager I can be. Thank you for doing this video. You are an inspiration.

I was trained as a teacher and writer of training materials, but wanted to realize my Dad's dream of having 10 acres with a house in the middle. After 25 years of working in education and high-tech training, I had my house built on my 10 acres and ended up not going back to teaching because of a traumatic brain accident. Started with laying hens, added 2 dogs, a couple of bee hives, and ( right now) 11 meat goats. I don't think anyone who knew me back in my 30s would see me as a small rancher! But I love the animals ( much better than some of the people I worked with) and complain to myself about all the work that needs to be done.I've been at this 15 years, and started with the goats 4 summers ago. Every day is different. And NEVER let anyone tell you that you are too old! I'm in my late 60s and do most things here by myself, including building a 12ft x 24ft.goat barn.
Great hard working folks feeding our country. God bless and keep up the hard work!
What an awesome video. I love how at the 6 min mark she’s watching a KZread video learning how to tie on bits. What a resourceful young lady. I think she’d be successful at most any endeavor she chooses. Just goes to show you can never judge a book by its’ cover.
I watch animals having babies and I just want to tell them how special I think they are. It's the same each time.
I never looked that good on a horse.
Man I love this. I grew up feeding 10 head of horses and 40 dogs EVDRY morning. Good memories and it made me a better person. I would love to come work for you.
She is so beautiful and hardworking soul' respect🙌🏼🙌🏼👌🏻
She's a real rancher who cares about her animals and land. It's her life
When she said that she cryed more about horses and anything else I instantly realte
Maggie, I am 4th generation grandson of Oklahoma cattle ranchers , about to move back to Oklahoma and raise cattle, horses, and quail. I was a soldier for a few years but was fortunate to come back to where the wind comes sweeping down the plains. My name is Jeff, give me a shout.

AWESOME! GOD BLESS, THANKS FOR SHARING!❤
Living the dream that's y I do what I love n love what I do . This makes anyone good at what they do for a living .
the Ranchers woman reflecting the strongest and committee of ladies
Great video. Those are very docile cattle. Most European cows would gore you to death if you walked over to a newborn calf like that.
Lovely documentary. I love the passion she has for the animals 💛
You’re Awesome,,God Bless You
Super 👌 👍... 👋👋👋Russia 🇷🇺 Region Bachcortostan!!! 🤝🤝

Shit I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and sometimes I feel like packing what little I have and moving to the Midwest and working as a ranch hand I don't know how to go about it tho.

Hi there liked your video i wish you would do more like this one
thanks so much so beauty work and I hope for my horse yet
I loved your way of living
A very raw video. It shows what really happens on a ranch. Its not a hallmark movie for sure.
Wow!! You're my hero!! Just curious though, how hard was it for you to get someone to give you a chance? Most female ranchers were born into it. You must be one bad bish!!! You are the queen of the bad bish club!!!
GREAT VIDEO ............. YEPPER ........... SHE IS A RANCHER !!!!!!
Living my dream. Doing hard work, living hard in Montana state.
Awesome woman🙂.
Enjoyed this video as much as Greg Judy. 👍🏻😁
Awesome 👌😁
Very good
We have relatives in Deer Lodge

Saludos desde la Ciudad de México
Maggie with your last name Schmidt. Are your family roots Germans from Russia by chance? My last name is Mari and that's where my Grand Parents came from. You are so beautiful. I farm and ranch and drive truck in Northeast Colorado. Hope all goes well during calving season this year.
Best female rancher without selling your body. Yes you are beautiful
Hope to see a new Deer Lodge Rancher, update Video
beatiful
PIĘKNE ŻYCIE 💚💚💚
Great video. I wonder if this is still her life
If all cowgirls would look like her, cities would be empty...I got one too in south of france. I am a lucky guy.
how did i find this and why did i watch it? anyway.... good video!
Exelente.
Did you grow up in the ranching or farming or did you just like apply for this job and you got trained? I'm just wondering because that's what I want to do but it might be weird since I don't live on a ranch or anything
I’m in love
I watched this video twice
Those are some healthy cows
here in IL some of the best roping hands wear bibs and work bootss !!!!!
What breed of that cows?
Is that your father in the video with you?
Очень интересно 👍👍👍👍👍👍
You'll Do !!!! Pretty good lookin' too.
хорошая хозяйка, все животные чистые и ухоженные
Who’s here after watching all the seasons of The Ranch?
Wow
Hi. I’m from Tunisia, my job is teaching arabic and french in primary schools, but i like the farm works. Would you please hire me. I want just to do the job that i like.
у нее есть канал в ютуб?
What breeds of thats? 🤔
I have one question. Are they meat cows because she was drinking store bought milk in that one scene. But she has cows... 🤔
Personally I feel the ranchers are the owners that are the operators. If you are too big to do your own work you are too big 😉 maybe I am biased being a rancher who works beside her husband and we do it all ourselves. Otherwise you are a ranch owner, a ranch manager, or a ranch hand.
Here after Yellowstone? Yeah me too.
Well to a Lady Montana Cowgirl from a Texas Black Cowboy, I love your video, and understand everything you said. In this business of being a rancher or Cow hand, people can be a little standoff, being your not like them. I UNDERSTAND But I say, you got heart, be that cowgirl as long as you like, know matter what, as the saying gose, Living The Dream/EAT MORE BEEF If you get a chance, take a look at a good friend videos The Farm Guy
yessir
Ещё бы понимать вообще бы было классно ! Ролик класс . Привет из России.
Looks like,e she has it all handled Almost forgot how pretty you are Maggie Absolutely a rancher
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤗
I wish i had or work with animals
With the way she talks about the animals and taking care of them I'd imagine a person like her would rather work on an animal sanctuary than a ranch. Especially when she says matter of life and death with the calves is hard for her, since ranching is a business that will require their eventual death. At it's core that is not a concern about the animal itself but about the loss of profit.

That is so not accurate for all ranchers.

It's complicated. Having ranched myself for a handful of yearsl in WY, ranchers know their animals better, understand them, and care for them more than most 'city folks'' ..because there's an implicit equalizing aspect to being in such a raw environment alongside them every day, in all sorts of weather..rendering ranchers just as vulnerable as their animals..their moods and illnesses.. and don't get me started about calving, lambing, shearing, and branding. It's really, really hard work ..and can be really dangerous for everyone involved.
there's easier ways to make a living, no better way to live. we slowly changed over to Bison, far less sleep loss, now we loose sleep over what the newly elected adm is going to do and if we will be allowed to keep ranching. my wife says she ranches with kids on her hip and in high heels, no man can challenge that.

Ya the zoo and exotic animal community deal with the same thing. As a Zoo Keeping student it sucks seeing my field antagonized thanks to the incoming administration and ban laws I'm afraid what I have been working towards is going to be gone before I can even live it. Cows are all that's left of the now extinct auroch so in a way it's arguably one of this first animals to be preserved from extinction.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Makes me wonder if she watches Yellowstone
