How to be me live featuring chinchilla, I always took it as his second homage to his friend Joe and I believe it was filmed on the bridge where Joe took his life which just adds another layer to the performance. Edit: I have been corrected, lots of stories in the Ren rabbit hole that get repeated a lot that aren't true.need more than a podcast on Ren need an entire documentary series

Understand the line about going to bed and waking. It's a really simple song with few lyrics but it's like a chihuahua acting like a Rottweiler and it works great. I love this track

Knox, if you love this track then you also need to check out another live, one take track with Ren and Chinchilla called ‘how to be me’. You should also consider checking out a couple of her solo tracks, namely ‘Fingers’, the live version, and ‘Little Girl Gone’, her latest track. This girl can sing sing, and she is criminally underrated. She’s an absolute star!!

I suffer from severe depression and loneliness for more than 3 decades, i know that emptiness inside. So when i first heard Hi Ren months ago, it already was like a punch to the stomach. But chalk outlines really hits home. I find myself in so many of the lines. Scared of feeling OK cause all things change. I can´t even remember the last time i felt ok. Have taken Sertralin and many other antidepressants in the past, know what these do to the body and the mind, especially the side effects. And their voices together always give me goosebumps, every single time. A very powerful, emotional, intense experience, this song. Great reaction once again Knox, you find so many things in Ren`s lyrics that i tend to miss, cause my mother language isn´t english, i am German.

Hope you're still going strong and doing well, similar history, but I'm from New Zealand, another Ren song gave me an interesting insight into depression, that our minds get stuck in a negative feedback loop, we just need to find a new habit/something to distract us to break the cycle. I loved your reaction to Ren & Chinchilla, they are awesome together, I have watched that video of them so many times, I am in awe of Ren, he is a genius. Ren and Chinchilla’s voices blend together so beautifully. Both are amazing vocalists. I may be in my 70’s but I still can see and hear the Artist and totally enjoy their poetry. This song has a powerful message Big Pharma is harming everyone with their chemicals.

Thank you for continuing to feature Ren on your channel. I love this song, the melody and the lyrics are hauntingly beautiful. The voices of Ren and Chinchilla are incredible together, and their performance chemistry is insane. It brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to this, or their duet on "How to Be Me".

Ren is my new favorite. It’s not my typical style of music but finally someone tells the story of us with chronic illnesses. Big pharma and the medical community all fails us at least at one point. We either get misdiagnosed, dismissed or told it’s all in our head more than once in our cries for help. The desperation we can feel for relief along with the mental health issues of grieving our former selves. People don’t understand the medical trauma so many of us go through. Often there’s a feeling of being trapped. Trapped in our own failing bodies and a dark cell of our mind with the pills we are told to wash down. So well done.

Knowing how much you enjoy finding all the hidden gems in every performance, you are going to LOVE Chinchilla's live performance of Fingers. And her recent release Little Girl Gone doesn't just showcase her voice but also her talent as a producer. Tbh i feel envious of anyone experiencing her for the first time. I'm glad you are reacting to these Ren x Chinchilla tracks. I don't know if you planned it this way, but It kinda works out that you waited until after your interview with Ren and learning more about his history. Their other track, How to be Me, is going to hit even harder. That one is emotional enough without knowing the backstory, but now that you know more about Joe Hughes and how much he meant to Ren it's going to mean a lot more.

13:00 I think the lyric has more to do with being scarred to feel good because you know it won't last and it's just going to hurt more when that happens. It's easy to get used to depression if you been in it for awhile, but having a good day and then getting smacked with it again is a pain no one gets used to.

Another great reaction Knox. You do realise that you've opened up another Ren wormhole here don't you? There are so many other Ren related tracks with his band The Big Push, his collabs with Chinchilla, Eden Nash, Bibi, Molly McKinna, Sam Tompkins, Orlean, Liv Sangster etc. Test the water with these. The line you missed a couple of times was I’m scared of being OK… That hit me me right in the feels. That’s something that I and others have felt. Who am I without this depression in my case, or without this pain, this anxiety etc. it becomes unthinkable, the idea of it no longer being there. I mean literally unthinkable, I couldn’t even imagine it. It’s probably at least partly the unknown, and the unknown is scary. Mental illness is not a good thing to be going through, but it’s familiar, a known quantity, and even seeking help is harder than you would think. That you didn’t catch it probably just means you’re healthy.

I think what you're hearing as post-production reverb is actually the combined reverb from both directions of hall. It's a truly magnificent natural reverb, which you hear across the vocals throughout.

I've heard this song soooo many times it's so interesting that you hear something different and point it out. The "take it just in case" line; I've always taken "it" to mean the perfect day - a semblance of hope. But "it" as the pill works just as well, i bet Ren used "it" knowing it could be taken either way. Fascinating. Thank you.

By far, this has to be the most intelligent and sympathetic breakdown of Chalk Outlines to date and by a million miles. Knox and Ren are both a credit to their generation.

Chinchilla's live version of Fingers is soooo good, def check that out! Not just for her voice but also for her theatrics (if that's the right word).

Ren said you're like a surgeon when it comes to dissecting his performances. He has mad respect for you. I've been on different meds and different combinations of meds dealing with bi-polar and depression. The side effects are almost worse than the illness. I was misdiagnosed for over a decade and the meds they gave me brought on manic episodes which made me incredibly self-destructive. Every day I'm surprised I'm still here.

@Knoxhill this was a masterpiece. Powerful is not a word to fully describe it. I heard this yesterday and after about a dozen playthroughs I am still amazed. The haughty melodies, raw emotion, and blend of their voices lend so much depth to this story. Both artists are so very talented. Troubadour is not a word I use to describe very many artist today, but these two are a perfect example. They make you thirst for the music, breathe the lyrics, and feel the emotion. Like a lovers caress the song flows over and through you leaving you sated and hungering for more. Love the reaction brother.

I reacted to this a while ago and absolutely loved it. The one thing that I thought would’ve been really cool stylistically was if at the end when the lights were flickering if Ren and chinchilla would vanish and instead there’d be chalk outlines or something.

I'm a little late in viewing this so I'm sure it' been said several times already, but the obvious next reaction should be Ren & Chinchilla's live version of "How to be me". Just as powerful as this one, just as beautifully harmonic. Ren calls Chinchilla his "musical sister", these 2 videos illustrate exactly why. They sinc so hauntingly well together, it's truly beautiful artistry.

Yeah man this song is just so beautiful. It is probably one of the more pop-friendly Ren tracks yet it doesn’t feel like a manufactured hit. It’s so raw and powerful. I hope everyone gets to hear this real soon

Setraline is the Generic for Zoloft - I love how CLEAN and RAW this is... the whole performance except the guitar was captured with the one Lavalier mic you see on Ren's right collar... i think Thats why you hear the Gain lift when Chinchilla drops her first couple lines because she's a few feet away... my ears arent as crisp as they once were, but im not sure if all that meety warmth was added in post is that all concrete hallway in just That georgously reverberant??? - Love your Vid's man... Knox, man, I must say you are so on point with your analysis. English is my second language and I'm so grateful to you that you break down a bit - Ren's songs in particular.
