I think Cher should have won the oscar for her performance on this movie. When she realizes Rocky has passed away is simply breathtaking. I have watched this movie dozens of times because Cher is one of my favourite actresses (and singers) of all time, and every time I watch that scene I cannot hold my tears. Simply perfect.

There is a moral to this story of course which is quite simple. Never judge a book by it's cover, as the age old expression goes. Rocky was a treasure trove of good, beneath his 'mask' was a good human being with a talent, intelligence and decency that is so rare in people - but his life ended way to soon to bless the world with these gifts.

"Now you can go anywhere you want, baby." Fun Fact: The poem that Rocky (Eric Stoltz) read to Rusty (Cher) was written by the real Rocky Dennis. Make-Up Effect Fact: Eric Stoltz spent so much time under heavy make-up that when he arrived for the post-production party, he had to present I.D. to security to prove that he was Eric Stoltz. Also, when he got there, he had to introduce himself to some of the cast and crew because many of them didn't know what he really looked like. Music Enthusiast Fact: Bruce Springsteen's music was chosen for several reasons. It was the real Rocky's favorite music, and it served to denote the passage of time. Springsteen wanted his music used in the original release, but the owners of his catalogue at that time could not agree on a royalty rate with the studio. The music was reinstated for the Director's Cut when Springsteen pushed for its inclusion. The Rest Of The Story Fact: The real Rusty Tullis was something of a teenage delinquent in real life. Nominally Jewish, she was briefly expelled from school in New York at 13 for non attendance. At the age of 14 she started smoking marijuana and hanging around with a biker gang and when she was 15 she quit school to start working as a go-go dancer. At age 17 she married her first husband, at 19 she had her first child (Rocky's elder half-brother, Joshua). At the age of 25 she was in her second marriage (she married three times in all) which resulted in her giving birth to Rocky in 1961. She had substance abuse problems her entire life, both before and after Rocky's death and had several run-ins with the law, including at least three prison sentences for illegal drug possession, with the most recent being completed in 2005. In October 2007 she was riding her three wheeled motorbike when it blew a tire whereby she lost control and collided with a telegraph pole. Although she survived the initial collision she was badly injured, suffering two broken legs and a punctured lung and died in hospital a month later aged 70, having outlived both her sons.

Always loved this movie since I was a kid .. very underrated acted film.. Stoltz, Cher, Elliot , and even Dern do a great job to bring this story and Rocky Dennis to life.. it’s super interesting to see an Oscar winning actress in Cher and her interpretation of Rusty’s reaction to Rocky’s death She runs through the 5 stages of grief in 3 minutes.. Blaming a Spanish test for him staying home- “denial” Telling him to make himself Well- “bargaining” Trashing the kitchen-“anger” Crying over him- “depression” Putting the pins back on the map-“acceptance” Great job Great movie

For a true story along these lines watch the movie about Joseph Carey Merrick "The Elephant Man". I detest that title he has been given but it is the name of the movie and book. I NEVER refer to him with that dehumanizing name. It is an extraordinary story, not biographical but certainly based on the life of that amazing young man and the doctor who took care of him at the London hospital during the late 1800's at the same time Jack the Ripper was killing women which was very near the hospital where Mr. Merrick was being cared for. It's an important story striking similar chords as this movie. More importantly everyone should meet Joseph Merrick even if it is in a movie. He was by every account a beautiful person, a kind, gentle loving, graceful, compassionate, intelligent, and sensitive young man. He was treated so very badly simply because of the extreme deformities he suffered due to a rare illness. It's worth the watch. For a more lighthearted story watch "Wonder". It was originally a kids novel but it was made into an exceptional family oriented movie. Both movies are worth your time.

What you watched was the Director cut. There were several scenes you saw that weren’t in the theater release. Also, Rocky fave singer was, of course, Bruce Springsteen and the director cut used his music. However, due to some contract stuff etc, they couldn’t get the rights to use the Springsteen music so in the theatrical release Bob Seger musics was used. Google the real Rocky and his mom. Although she seemed okay with the film in the beginning, I believe she ended up angry with the finished product. Rusty has since passed away as well. I’m a HUGE Cher fan and this is probably my fave film of hers. She won an Oscar for MOONSTRUCK, so check that one out‼️

The scene where Cher reacts to Rocky’s death gets me every time. That scene amongst many is why she should’ve won the Oscar. I believe the biggest reason why she really won the Oscar for “Moonstruck” 2 years later was because it was the Academy’s way of making it up to her for not giving her the Oscar for “Mask”. Other than that, this was a great reaction video. Keep up the good work.

As a child of a parent into stuff and a child with medical stuff… too real for me. It may have not been as hectic as you would understand but for me… it was more than enough

Fun fact: Eric Stoltz was cast as Marty McFly in Back To The Future. They filmed almost the entire movie before finally giving in to their reservations about Stoltz and his refusal to play the part comedically and fired him. He was too intense and wanted it to be more of a drama. They hired Michael J Fox and went about refilming the entire movie and the rest is history. There is footage available of the original Back To The Future available online. It's funny because in some of that movie, you can see just how different cast members look from scene to scene because they were so tired and completely drained from filming the movie again immediately after the firing. Lol. The only footage that remained of Stoltz in the final film in theaters was the scene where Marty punched Biff in the face in the diner. The fist you see hitting Biff is Stoltz's fist.😂

There is an interview with Rockys mom on yourtube. You should watch it, she sounds exactly like Cher and their attitudes were spot on with each other.

Man they just don't make them like this anymore. Damn this is my favorite 80s film of all time. Hell I wore out the VHS when I was a kid watching this.

Great movie. A very sad movie based on a real life story. Fyi you know because of the movie Eric Stolez (Rocky) was cast as Marty Macfly in the first Back To The Future. He filmed allot of Back The Future but was replaced By Michael J Fox (The original choice for the role by the director) because it said he was too intense and serious for the role of Marty Macfly . You should also see him with Liam Nilsson in Rob Roy (A movie like Braveheart the was overshadowed by him ) .Also if you like Sam Elliot you should watch Roadhouse with Patrick Swyaze and Sam Eliiot. Fyi I think you miss the doctor in the start played the bad guy in the Dirty Harry movie.

Rockie was never buried in a cemetery (as the movie portrays). His body was donated to science.

Once they are done with your body they cremate it and give it back to the family. Im sure she either kept it or buried him.

Great performance by all, especially Cher. On the cusp of critic acclaim, though she already had the audience's heart in the films she starred in. Eric Stoltz, was the original choice for the role of Marty McFly in Back to the Future, but was already committed to this film.

Awesome, awesome movie. One of my favorites. I've recommended this to all the movie reactors that I watch and none of them have done it ( I'm not a patreon so I understand ). Another awesome, awesome movie that I recommend all the time is With Honors ( 1994 ) starring Joe Pesci ( my favorite role of his ), Brenden Fraser and Patrick Dempsey amongst others.

I watched an old interview Ricky's real mom did and Rocky has an older brother they left out the movie and Rocky really did have a blind gf and he really died in his bed where he wanted to die and the biker family did lobe him and was always ther for him
