    My Run VO2 is 62.2! Ramped up to 10mph at 8% incline, increasing speed every 2.5 minutes. My aerobic threshold was 168 HR, anaerobic threshold was 189 HR, and max HR was 201! Great data and see what we can do to improve!

    I was pushing it hard with a pack of bike riders into the wind, on a bridge, in 97 F heat. My heartrate was 190 on the climb. When we made it over the top of the hill, my heart free-spooled to 209 as the load came off my legs and I was spinning the pedals without resistance. I got a little nervous when I saw the number on my monitor. I can't remember the last time I had my heart rate that high. I was 47 at the time. Cyclists are nuts.

    well, Tim O’ Donnell came 2nd in 2019 Ironman World Championships breaking 8 hours and I can remember him saying in one of his videos that he has a vo2 max something in the 60s and most pros have it in that ballpark as well. 80-90s are just exceptional. Rumours are there that Kristian Blummenfelt has gone past the charts but he is still getting beaten in ITU(I am a Blumme fan though), so that’s that.

    It’s probably quite difficult to design a protocol to hit your max heart rate, so could be slight underestimate. For me, if I was to do this test, my legs would give out before my cardiovascular system. My max is in the mid 170s and I’ve hit it only a handful of times and each time it was during a longer tempo / threshold run in the heat. I have a good idea of what my threshold heart rate is from various races so use that to set my zones.

    For whatever my blood pressure was was 204/172 in Feb when I went to the doc for physical.. I didn’t even go in for high blood pressure , I went for a work physical. I’m on blood pressure pills and he just upped my dose bc it’s still elevated. I’ve always been active, I walk 5-7 miles a day, and sprinkle in my runs. I’m 43, 6’1 265lb non-smoker, light social drinking which is far and in between , and no diabetes. High cholesterol ( also for some reason which was detected when I was 23 exiting Marines, and just went on cholesterol pill to suppress that for first time also). hoping I can get to baseline and start more structured cardio workouts. My doc says he wouldn’t recommend I do long workouts that push my blood pressure , so I’m basically cutting weight with just diet, water and walks and light quick shuffle runs and low-energy basketball. Crazy how quick your physical self can breakdown and how sensitive the machine is. All good, I needed the reality check

My cardio is ok as I do a lot of biking, but if I try to run, after like 1 minute the muscles on the front of my calves (I think it's called tibialis anterior?) completely lock up and I can't even lift my foot anymore.. I mean since I wasn't feeling nauseous and could still move? I was just kind of anxious about how hard it was thumping and figured I should stop. I'm doing my 1st VO2 max test tomorrow and haven't done anything more hardcore than 1-arm pushups to raise HR in months.

    @@SimonShi I got my HR up to 192 at 46 or 47 years old running. Still 47 and I did my 1st VO2 max today and was told he never saw anyone hold as low an HR as long as I did before. I was thinking slow down when he said HR was elevated before having the mask on and said I'm slightly claustrophobic and he said it's normal for him to see that since I've never had a mask on to do that test before. Thinking that did slow it down. Could it be I have the same control over my nervous system as "Iceman" Wim Hof?! I didn't say I did an Ice bath for like 2 min. 45 seconds at like 46 Fahrenheit once. He said it's interesting and sometimes the doctor he e-mails results to says another test should be done and it'll be free. It said my fitness level is very low. I used a row machine. Treadmill was an option. I didn't mention I do 1-arm pushups sometimes. Because of my pushing pulling upper body strength should I have said I'll use the treadmill instead? HR didn't go above like 160 until after the test was over. Got up to like 175. Maybe lol I guess only because I was thinking when he said leave the mask on for a couple minutes for measurement reason/reasons don't just rip it off and kind of felt like I wanted to rip it off to breathe easier. I don't smoke it was just psychological lol. Because of my pushing pulling upper body strength should I have said I'll use the treadmill instead?

Theres a trail by me that is 7.75 miles so there & back would be 15.5 miles & i could do it in an hour or less 3-4 times per week. I treated it like a workout (passing people as safely as possible of course) & was only passed by 3 people all summer. Unfortunately i switched back to weightlifting now that gyms reopened & although im still in shape & i know I'm 2 months away from getting in decent condition on the bike i bet my vo2 is a lot closer to average now than when i was in peak shape for summers of 2020 & 2021

  • @davidnogle2661

    @davidnogle2661

    9 ай бұрын

    @SimonShi Nordic is endurance. VO2 is actually almost directly correlated to endurance. Sprinting and VO2 have very little to do with each other, as sprinting uses a metabolic pathway that has almost nothing to do with VO2. Distance running is just more muscular than Nordic (which is far more aerobic). 62 is high, most elite runners are in the 70-80 range. There are select runners that have a high VO2 (specifically ultrarunners), but the highest (90+) are almost all endurance skiers and cyclists. Sprinters have much lower vo2. It's actually hard to even find numbers on how high it is in top level sprinters, because it's something they don't even measure, being that it isn't really relevant.

    I do HIIT resistance training(dumbbells/nautilus) and treadmill speed walking with about 10 % of that being jogging, and 10 % sprinting. ALL my training is at minimum, level 2 cardio. And I always hit peak BPM several times every session. I basically never go below level 2, unless I'm warming up, or occasionally in between resistance training sets. I go to full exhaustion on all sets, using 15 second rest intervals. If I don't feel I can maintain that level of intensity. I stay home. However, I average 5 workouts per week, 1000+ active minutes per week, and a marathon/ultramarathon every 6 weeks. Both my RHR, and Vo2max are 53. Which is athletic/elite for my age of 66. I think too many people rely on trainers, or others to develop an effective routine. If we are honest with ourselves, we are the best judges of what needs to be done, and the effort needed to accomplish it. If any senior citizen out there, can better my results. I'd like to know how they did it. I'm always looking for a better process. Thanks to this man, Huberman, Goggins, Cavaliere, Galpin, Willink, and others for sharing their knowledge, and inspiration.
