What 3 Adventure Motorcycles are in my Garage in 2023?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Today let's walk through the decision process and thinking behind my ownership of a 2020 BMW R1250GS, 2022 Aprilia Tuareg 660, and 2022 KTM 350 EXC. Is this the perfect combo of bikes for all around motorcycling on and off road? What's missing and what's coming into my garage in the future? #motorcycle #motorbike #adv

Right on!
You can afford your choices. Therefor I agree with them. 😂
Love the content! I do appreciate that you keep juggling around the garage to keep the content fresh. I've been heavily considering a beta 390 and the tuareg or desert x as a 2 bike garage, so your content has been a great help!
3:00 am in the morning and your releasing videos
One of your best vids yet, great to see the more personal side of your personality and channel.
I am a 69 year old rider from San DIego. I own 3 bikes currently BMW S 1000 XR, KTM 390 Adventure and KTM 450 EXC 6 days. I came from a dirt background first. I think your video reviews are very detailed and we think alike. I think your choice of bikes right now is spot on for the reasons you stated. You can't beat BMW for comfort and handling, everyone seems to love the Tuareg and I have owned 3 KTM EXCs since 2003 and loved them all and was pleasantly surprised that they have all been not only cutting edge dirt bikes with a plate, but reliable too which surprised me. I have ridden Baja extensively since 1994. I test rode the T7 at Stagecoach Campground a few months ago and was very impressed with the road and off road manners of the bike. You can't beat Japanese reliability, especially Yamaha. I don't need fancy electronics on a bike that has only 72 to 80 hp, especially when I am off road and far from home. Keep up the good work.
Love your business approach. Please don’t change it! Great channel and honest informed opinions and information. Thank you Sir!
Keep doing what you do, content is so valuable for people like me that tend to keep bikes for 5 years +. Ready to pull the trigger on a new '22 KTM 500 EXC-F. Excited about that. Would love to learn more about your KTM 350!! Thanks, Ian!
I appreciate this channel because I'll never get to ride any premium models in these segments myself. It's cool to see and get a sense of them outside of traditional moto journalism. 👍
Ian I like your non attachment approach, it is a great quality to have and it can always be applied to other areas in life, It keeps the energy flowing, and that's what set your channel apart. Thanks for bringing all this nice and fresh content 👍🏍️

Your reason for buying and selling motorcycles is totally understandable. Your business model provides us with excellent independent reviews of multiple motorcycles. My favourite motorcycle YT channel.
Enviable set up and completely I get why you do what you do Ian. Keep up the good work on your ever improving channel. Happy new year to you and your family 🎉👌
omg...your little run up to the bikes...amazing. Reminds me every time I approach my motorcycle before a ride!
Oh, you have some really big things coming up! I'm SUPER excited for all of it!
I think with your KZread business it all makes perfect sense. I used to owned 3 bikes as well, but I found myself riding just one of those 3 close to 90% of times. And I hated the feeling of having two bikes I was not riding. So.. I sold them and I left just one. And now 701 Enduro is my one and only bike for everything. And surprisingly it works well for my kind of riding :) cheers!
Super stoked to see you going for Moto, Track Days and Trials... all will be not only funner than heck, but make you a 10x better rider overall, which for me is also part of the journey of Motorcycles...
Thank you a lot. You are doing great job and I am always looking forward some new staff. Best motocycle YT channel.👍👍💪
Great collection! I currently own a KTM890s and a KLX300. And there were 4 other bikes in the last four years that had a moderately short stay. If I had the room I would be testing my wife's patience with a 1250GS for long touring and a Ninja 400 for track days. Nothing wrong with changing bikes frequently if it's your passion.
I loved you discussion about the R1250GS - "I just like it" You left out the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty and the exceptional customer service after the sale.. BMW installed 3 fuel pumps in my 2007 GS and they replaced my drive shaft in my 2015GSA.. .. Miss having a GS, Utilitarian, like boxer engine, like sound, like torque , like shaft drive, like comfort, like it does not tip over all the way, like adjustable windshield.... I agree, Have and had many bikes, but the GS is my favorite. I have owned a 2001, 2004, 2009, 2012, 2007, 2015 and a 2021. Mix of GS and GSAs. I am Blessed and have more than I need and more than I deserve.
Thanks for a good 2023 intro, jeez I approach my motorcycle passion the same way you do. I generally have 2 Moto’s, a large adventure Moto and a street legal enduro. A couple years ago I had a WR450F, plated. A F800GSA and a 310GS that I set up with TKC80 knobbies, skid plate, foot pegs and bar riser to closely duplicate my 800GSA. Currently I own a 2021 40th Anniversary 1250 GSA with knobbies and a KLX 230 for my enduro. I tend to flip my Motos within 12 - 18 months. Good info and KZread channel. Ride on!
Excellent bike mix. Really looking forward to your forthcoming content!
What sells me on the KTM, and I'm no orange fan, is the PDS rear suspension. Pretty unique these days, and frankly I can't ignore it on any bike whose primary design criteria are weight and simplicity. I rode a 2017 model for a day in Spain, and was impressed. Looking forward to the detailed video.
Very nicely done, your videos are informative and to the point. I suffer from the same affliction - I typically rotate my bikes every few months; have had 150+ over a long riding career. I had to comment on this video since we've landed on a very similar stable of bikes. For all of the same uses you mentioned, I have an HP GS 1250, KTM 890 R, and newly added Beta 350 RR-S - love them all! As far as future content, I'd like to see a review on the KTM 1290 Super Adventure. I've had several iterations of the older platform 1190R, 1090R, 1290SA and I really like what they've done with the latest version by incorporating many of the good features of the 890. Keep up the good work - it's great to see fresh content on a wide swath of what's available on the market!
Great content. Love the direction of the channel. Keep it up!
Another absolutely fantastic vid. I like how you are not brand loyal. For me it's just about enjoying two wheels. Thanks from Seattle.
I applaud your efforts to cover every conceivable motorcycle ownership scenario. Great career choice!
I like the fact that you always have different bikes. I have a 1969 Harley Electra Glide for nostalgic reasons since my Dad bought it new in 69 and I grew up with it, a 2001 Yamaha WR 426 from when I had my dealership and I haven't found anything for my riding style that would be better and a 2018 KTM 1290 SAR for dirt roads and riding with my wife. My bikes are all paid off and I'm not buying any new ones so I watch your channel to keep up on what's out there. Thanks.
I'm sure getting rid of the 890 Rally was tough, but the new content is great. Your job is allot like a test pilot shaking down everything new to see what works and what doesn't. Keep up the good work in 2023!

It's great to see a GS back in your stable. I was attracted to your channel when you owned the 1250 GSA. I have a 2016 1200 GSA and would not change it for anything at this stage of my life.
Really liked this video, nice to see what you have right now. I think most of your viewers understand your revolving garage door of motorcycles. Hopefully some day you will be able to have your personal fleet of favorite bikes that you will not have to swap out to make content. Until then we thank you for the effort you put into this channel, it really shows how hard you work at it.
I appreciate your in depth review of the bikes we love, swapping them every now and then while sacrificing your own preference is commendable. Speaking of affordable bikes, Id like to hear your take on the Moto Morini X-Cape 650. It's new to the market but seems like a very competitive offer from a price point of view. I hope you'll be able to get your hands on one sometime.
Glad to see you go back to a GS again and again, makes my recent purchase of an R1250GS feel quite justified.
Nice kickoff for 2023! I relate on the weather, it's been wet and sloppy up here in Ridgecrest and at my cabin up in Kennedy Meadows. Hey, it's a tough job, but someone has to do it. Owning and riding and reviewing an endless succession of high quality bikes for a living is not a sure formula for success, but I think you are crushing it. I think the ownership commitment is an important element. Kind of like a marriage, it makes you think before buying in. I'm 68, cervical fusion, lumbar issues, cancer survivor, definitely not the man I used to be. I appreciate your attention to detail in your reviews. I have to adjust your take - younger, bigger, stronger, not beaten up, but you have consistency across the reviews that I find valuable. I'm most interested in the mid-weight ADV category as it includes the next bike I'll likely buy. I'll never buy a big GS/KTM/Honda. I also think weight management is important - KTM/Husky and Aprilia get it. Yamaha doesn't. I won't be "adventure riding" per say, just looking for a comfortable lively day tourer I can take on forest service roads. While the Taureg is the current front runner, I'm waiting to see how the new Transalp reviews (I hope it is available here in the USA). I agonized a bit over a new dualsport - I've pretty familiar with KTM EXC's as several friends have 450's and 500's. The 350 has always intrigued me. But I just wouldn't use one like it should be used, I'm too fragile. And the EXC I've ridden are just not all that fun on the highway. Being up in the north Mojave I tend to ride highways to my relatively nearby offroad areas. And I enjoy big mixed days going into Nevada or up the Sierra Eastside. I ended up getting an uncorked WR250R. Be careful on the MX riding! I was a racer in my youth, you can definitely get hurt in that activity.
I would love to see an in depth review on the Desert X, and maybe more rally focused bikes, like an AJP PR7. Thank you again for all your videos, and the work you put in to learning, as much as you can, about each bike as so you can speak knowledgeably.
I like you filming in your garage. It’s great !!! Lighting is good
Happy new year! Sounds like you have some really fun and entertaining plans.
I really enjoy your content. The idea of owning the bikes 6-12 months and then moving on provides a unique ownership experience, which is a main reason I subscribed to your channel. Look forward to the Tuareg dealership experience, and what maintenance you are able to do on your own. I do all my own maintenance, which is a main reason for owning the bikes that I do. Seems like the newer bikes are getting tougher to work and the whole right-to-repair is an important issue for me

Changing bikes every 6-12 months is fun, you get to try and own so many bikes! It really lets you figure out what your "perfect" bike is, if there is such a thing!!

Absolutely. There are many who want a cheap bike to run, you can self service and it's reliable, simple with anologue Speedos that you could take round the world or despatch ride. That's my personal view and I've got a Suzuki Dr650 from 1996. A good bike and not expensive. The v Strom 660 maybe a secondhand bargain I may get next. I like Norton's, BSA twins from 1950s as they're what I learned to work on but the chrome etc and frame was far better than you find today. An engine with simple mechanics for round the world isn't about power. If I was well off I'd like the design of the tiger 1200 with shaft but I'd be frightened to drop it. I'd never buy BMW or Italian in general or KTM. Its Yamaha, triumph maybe tiger or scrambler twin or Suzuki or certain Honda's like 750 Africa twin for me. KTM is for well off people. Spares are expensive. The 850 guzzi TT shaft seems nice but I doubt build quality, electrics and whether exhausts rot out quickly and cost over £1000 for a new guzzi one that will rot like the original and the stuff like starter motor will pack up or cam followers self destructing like on the griso which was a beautiful bike if it hadn't had this awful huge fault that totally has put me off ever buying a Moto guzzi which is sad. Ducati and Aprilia never but some Moto Morini were really good in the 1980s as a mate did huge mileage and spoke well of the original 350 cc v twin .
i needed this video to get me motivated to take more risks. thank you!!
Keep rocking!!
Awesome - love the content! And bikes of course!
Nothing wrong with what ur doing. Appreciate ur reviews
I like your 3 choices, they provide a wide range of utility and fun. I totally agree with the Aprilia, I have one myself. Now, I may be a bit different then your typical crowd but I think adding a big cruiser/bagger would be fun. My top 3 dream bikes: Ducati Multistrada V4s, Aprilia Tuareg 660, and Indian Challenger. I'm 2/3 of the way there. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up!
All great points. Always great content .
Funny that you are apologizing for this video. Your flow is the best I have seen. Your energy was great! Best video of yours I have seen in quite a while.
Always enjoy your content. I am trying a similar combo with a 22 GSA and 22 Tenere 700 for this riding season. I keep coming back to the GSA as well. It’s just unbeatable for a majority of my riding. Please keep rotating the garage of bikes because the rest of us cant really manage to do that and your reviews help us narrow down our next bike options!
Hell yeah, ride them all. I have 5 bikes myself. Thank you for the content.
all you stuff is so clean!!
I absolutely love Fasstflex bars, guards and pegs. Awesome stuff.
Ian this is top notch! Thanks brother makes perfect sense to me 👊 (Awesome garage too)
Thank you for your reviews on the CRF1100L, they helped reinforce my choosing to purchase a 2021 ATAS. I am very pleased with it. I bought Barkbusters for it per your review using the link provided from Rocky Mountain. They look great and give me more confidence.
Hello Ian. I am subscribed and watch all your BMW videos. I own a 2022 RT and would like to see you review that. I am very pleased with mine. And when the R1300GS comes out this year, a comparison between that and your R1250GS. It was also fun seeing your wife in a previous video. Ride safe.

I think seeing what sort of sport bike you pick up will be interesting. See if you go for something bonkers, or more sensible given your past choices.

Pretty nice combination 👍👍 indeed you could add a nice roadster or power cruiser for twisties 😀
The PERFECT GARAGE!!! And you really deserve it my friend! I don’t deserve it but I want it 😊
Great content as always. Looking forward to seeing what 2023 has in store. I really want an Aprillia but no dealership near me.
Thanks for testing the Aprillia!! I owe a 1200 ac 2010 GS but I simply can’t part with it. I‘ve tested many of other brands (Honda, KTM’s, Triumph, Yam etc.) but there is something special with the GS even it becomes 13yrs of age soon. Love it or leave it. At the age of 67, I discovered last year off-roading and I’m looking for something lighter. I tested the Tuareg during an intense weekend riding and that’s the first bike that hooked me apart from BMW. As I don’t want to afford 2 bikes - riding not buying but I don’t run a KZread business 😉 - I’m looking forward to your in-depth-review for the 660. The dealership is not the big issue here. And my preferred region of riding is Italy anyway. Love your channel Peter from Austria 🇦🇹
It sounds like you have some fun plans for this year. I can’t wait too see the trials training, as that should be some awesome content. On Adventure bikes, a long term review on the Desert X would be interesting. I considered ordering one, but with all the fine silt on the roads here in Alaska, dealership a full day’s drive (365 miles to Anchorage) away for service, and a tank removal to access the air filter caused me to look at a something a bit easier to self service (Japanese). So I have a DRZ400s on hold (new, as no used in the area) to pick up this spring as my “refresher re-introduction” to dirt/ trail riding bike. It’s been 24 years since I last rode in the dirt, so I have some self training to do.
Just picked up a brand new FE350S and I can’t stop raiding Taco Moto Co getting ALL the mods hahaha. Excited for your KTM 350 vids coming!!
Looking forward to your sport bike content.
NO explanation is needed but thanks you, We should understand that you are a Uthuber and its your job to analyze and inform your findings, and most of all we are happy with all the info you provide. Take care. Great job.
Please, the new models just released: Suzuki 800DR, Honda 750 transalp. Thanks
Love the Turbo Levo in the background there :D
Congrats for even bothering to explain why you have to sell and buy bikes! One of my favorite channels to watch and probably THE most honnest one! Keep up the great work!
Another great video. Really enjoy your work. Wish I could own all those bikes! Budget motorcycle owner, have a KLR 650 adventure.
Gonna be another great year of riding! I have a deposit on a Husky Norden 901 “expedition” which I believe will have a more off road package with better suspension and such like the 890 Adv. I’m interested in seeing what you think. Anyway, I don’t envy getting rid of anything like you have/need too as I can’t even part with one of CRFs to make room for the Norden. 😆 Continued success for the new year! 🏍💨
For myself the top three bikes would be 1, KTM 890 adventure R for me 2 newer style Goldwing tour for my spouse and I. 3 KTM 890 enduro for more bush bashing. The Gs is a Top Choice. But after owning four of them I’m back on the KTM gang. I really love the bmw bikes but after nearly a decade on nearly every single model of boxer from the 1150 other then the 1250 shift cam I’m ready for the wing for my long tours. I wanted to try lots of different bikes and almost every year I’ve sold and bought something else. I always went back to the GSA . But after stepping a leg over the Ktm 1290 adventure R, I HAD A REALLY hard time going back to the Gs. So far in thirteen years I’m on my fifteenth bike. Great reviews. Keep it up.
Awesome content. Love it.
Man, you go through a lot of bikes! That's good because you put out a lot of reviews. Funny how you came back to the GS. I have sworn off GSs several times myself too, but somehow I always come back to them. I have exactly the same one you show in this video and I love it. I like my Norden and my KTM 500 EXC too but there is something special about the big GS. Too bad they are so dang expensive!
Love your vids! I’d like to see a KTM 1290, the new Honda transalp for sure. I love how your keeping it fresh.
Ian I’ve really enjoyed your content. Thanks for the bikes the gear as well as some of the deeper topics. Selfishly I just got a 2001 F650GS, these are a fun way to get into ADV riding cheaply, I’d love your take on some of these older cheaper “value” bikes. Keep up the great work.
I would love to see a KTM 1290 Adv R review. I am extremely interested in that bike and value your opinion over almost everyone else. I also know that you've mentioned previously that you have not ridden one of those yet. Looking forward to a productive 2023!

I’m also interested in the 1290. I own a 890R but am excited about the 350 reviews as I’m considering trading in my 890 and getting a 350 and a 1290 (my wife is my pillion from time to time).
Ian, those bikes tick all my boxes for variety and purpose - each unique with some overlap - except the 350 EXC is pretty singular purpose. Since you have made this (YT) your business, you make decisions to keep fresh content and attract new eyeballs to the channel. Perfectly understandable and defensible, so don't let naysayers (or jealous types) dissuade you. I'm looking forward to your trials choice and experience. Everything I see about trials riding and riders is that the finesse and control transfers to any other bike, with even greater confidence. You live in an area ripe for trials!
you've got a big 2023 planned. Excellent. Those three are perfect. I'm still a bit bored with watching reviews for bikes that are impossible to find. the KLX 300 appears great, but it's been two years and I still have not seen one live. Rock on down the rock road.
I like how you structure your videos and content - showing not only what you are reviewing, but also why you choose it or why a viewer would/should do so. Question - which seat cover are you using on your BMW?

Great review thx - T7 owner here liking the benefits of the KTM
Another excellent video, Ian, and three fine choices of bikes! As you were discussing buying and selling, I was thinking it would be great to hear about your experiences and recommendations for buying and selling motorcycles. When I bought my 2021 R1250 GSA I also considered a 2021 GS. I really like the GS's lower seat height, but I also really appreciate the GSA's longer range, which comes in handy when riding the wide open spaces of the Pacific Northwest. I don't have an off-road bike at the moment, but have been looking at the KTM 350 EXC-F and the KTM 300 XC-W as options. I'd love to hear your take on the two. Wishing you a fantastic 2023! Cheers!
I hope to see you on track! CSS is the best experience I’ve ever had on track. Say hi to Keith and team from Johan! I just spent two days a few weeks ago at Willow Springs and already looking forward to the next one. Also, I bought an Aprilia Tuareg today based on your reviews. Acid Gold of course!!
I finally chose an R 1250 GS. The lighter top end was the selling point for me. The tele-lever front suspension was what sold me on the BMW. Hill Start brake assist... Shift assist PRO... Dynamic load adjustments...7 riding modes... and the list goes on. ;)
Nice Collection! I have a GS 1200 and a CRF450R. That's all I need living in Vegas. GS for Life and that KTM is pretty nice!
I 100% agree with your choices! They mimic my own. I have a 2017 1200 GS Rallye for my distance ADV, i have a 2022 Yamaha T7 middleweight ADV that is my BDR bike, and I have 2022 KTM 350 XCF street legal as my friggin techno dirty ripper. As a backup I still have my 2012 KTM 500 XC-W street legal that i may now convert to a rally bike. So, great minds think alike!
Content or no content, if I had a GS (or a GSA 😍), I would never sell it, that’s my dream bike, actually, in my opinion, the best bike in the world. Hope I can own one in the future!🤞🏼 Best wishes for 2023 and I love seeing your channel grow and grow!🍀
Enjoyed the content
Great video, in or out of the garage. Love the GS. I miss my 2004 1150 GS so I’m back in the market for a new one and hope to have it in the next month or so.
Mate love it. I currently have the KTM 1290SAR and the KTM 500EXC-F 6DAYS. I love both of these bike. I recently owned a Ducati 950sp, Ducati Monster1200 R, the Desert Sled all great fun to ride and own.
Another great video, thank you.
I get a lot of haters on my GSA...it may not be the best in certain categories..but it gives you everything you need and want...tough to beat. The 660 - still waiting for mine to get back (400Miles away for me)- but I like the bike a lot. I'm thinking of getting an 890 R but we shall see...and I get what you are doing...keep doing what you're doing!!!!
Good to know your rationale for buying and selling bikes, it makes sense now. Your choices make sense as having a bike for all riding varieties. As a suggestion the desert x would be a great option to review
You pretty much have my dream bike line-up. Currently on a DR650 only.
Thank you Ian, really appreciate your way of doing these reviews. One bike I am especially interested in is Ducati Multistrada V4S Rally, it would be amazing if you could get your hands on one of those. In particular I am looking forward to that GS 1250 / Multistrada V4S comparison video you announced earlier. Those two bikes keep me up at night, so I am rally curious to hear your thoughts on them standing side by side.
Nice collection. Wow I can't believe you got believe you got rid of the 890 rally. That was a beautiful and awesome bike. I'm partial to KTM when it comes to adventure bikes. My 1290 is a beast. Thanks for all your video shares.
