When I visited in 2010 I was told it was Captain Cook on one of his voyages of discovery who was surprised by the bay as he assumed it was “ solid” and not hollowed out . Hence the name . I recall attempting to swim in the bay at 1degreeC and warming up in a volcanic stream diverted into a pit dug on the beach , it was filled in when we left . Thanks for the memories Les
In 2020 we sailed into Whaler’s Bay on the tall ship Europa. We could read the hand painted “Biscoe House” sign, see coal still piled in coal bins and cook stoves sitting exposed. Whale bones littered the shore! It was an amazing place to visit!
I was there in 1989 with my wife on our sailboat
I have been there 3 times, swam or dunked in the warm water once, two freezing dunks but pure magic ☘️🇮🇪🐳
No zombies? Or ghosts of zombies? I don’t know who to believe the scary story channel or this one. So mysterious.

That's why I appreciate this video. It isn't fiction, or speculation. This is an excellent telling of the real Deception Island.
I was just talking to my friend who I helped take a 60 foot schooner on a trip to Antartica, first stop Deception Island. 06.
Outstanding!
This is the best video ever made about Deception Island. The others are either fiction or speculation. Bravo sir! 🌹
Wonderful video. The historic museum portion is impressive! History buffs love this chance to see what it was really like for the folks at that time period. Closeups of penguins, especially chicks, is a birder’s dream!! Thank you !!
Excellent, thank you for posting. What is the ship at 7:21? Tourist or scientific? What company or nation, do you know?
Just like to point out that the helicopters used by FIDASE were an Sikorsky S-51 and a Bell 47D, not the S-55 shown. The main helicopters were G-AJOR and SE-HAD/SE-HAK. My uncle Greville "Bim" Jacques flew them.
Glad the true story of Decept Isl came out! The horror "story" shld have had and asterisk that it was just a "story" like "War of the workds" fiasco on early radio!
Love how the story only tells the nice side of deception bay...... Look into the Palmer story or the five Australian researchers that went there and only one came back....

That is just a piece of fiction it's not fact.
Did I spot 2 MF35 tractors, one converted to tracks?

I grew up driving MF35s on my father's farm. He had 5 or 6 of them, plus a T20. Half a century ago! They were good fun to drive! /

According to a Horror Story channel, it was named Deception Island after a group of Researchers were attacked on it by two skinless men in 1957, who killed n ate the researchers with only one surviving! 🤔😮

Thank you so much. I literally came here because I saw the clickbait title on that video and refused to click it but wanted to know what was up.

Qué historia! Sigue activo el volcán? Con qué derecho británicos y españoles ocupan hoy estas islas?

What about the skinless Demon Zombies? I wonder why they didn't mention them in this video?
Why was it named deception island! Anyone who knows please tell it's very interesting

Cause if you look at it on maps you can see how it looks like the letter C. When first seen people thought it was a full normal island and that's why it's called Deception Island, as if deceived what it was

I think they’re talking about Raven’s Rock, a rock that lies in Neptune’s Bellows only 2 feet away from the surface. You can see how that would tear up a ship if you weren’t paying attention.
Where humans arrive, nature will be slaughtered. But on Deception Island she raged her terror. With succes. 'Stay away!'
