WGN Channel 9 - Family Classics - "Moby Dick" (Opening, 1981)

Ойын-сауық

Here's the opening of the Family Classics presentation of Moby Dick [1956] on WGN Channel 9.
Hosted by Frazier Thomas.
Preceded by a WGN station ID bumper, the Cubs/Sox "baseball" variant (voiceover by Clif Mercer)
Previous to this we saw the opening of a 1985 airing of the same film on Family Classics, which sadly occurred a few weeks after Frazier Thomas passed away. ( • WGN Channel 9 - Family... )
The Family Classics theme song was called "Moviescope" and was a piece of library music composed by Dennis Berry. It was originally released on the Berry/Conroy label.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, March 15th 1981 at 3:00pm.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

Even the old WGN music makes me emotional, but the FC theme just melts me.So many fond memories.Out sledding all day, come home soaked & exhausted, Pops sittin' in his chair, the whole house smells like Supper, usually a huge roast, the entire family having movie night.Great times.

That WGN music is titled "The Last Farewell", and was originally recorded in 1971 by British singer Roger Whittaker. It was a hit in Europe & Canada in 1971, but didn't chart in the US Top 40 until a re-issued single charted on RCA Victor Records in 1975.
