    Absolutely fantastic! Takes me back to my very first journey on the Heart of Wessex Line from Dorchester to Bristol... which was also on a First Great Western Class 150. Nowadays it's mainly GWR Class 165/166's in use on the Heart of Wessex Line, with the Class 150's having been moved to local routes in Devon and Cornwall. We do get the odd Class 158 still coming down to Weymouth but very rarely (maybe once a day on a weekday morning).

    I loved watching this. As an exiled Bristolian who's been living on the other side of 'The Pond' for years it brought back lots of memories.

    Nostalgic for me. As a student I used to ride from Weymouth to Bristol in the front seat of a diesel multiple unit, so my view of the line was as good as the driver's.

    We haven't done previews of all our DEVs because one can get a pretty good idea of the genre from those that we have. If we didn't have a no-quibble money back guarantee then I could understand why previews are totally necessary but if you are seriously thinking of purchasing WESSEX, then just go for it and if you don't like it, send it back for a full refund. All YOU lose is the return postage. Anyway, I will see if we can find a window to created a preview but we have the NEC coming shortly..

    We did actually film from Westbury to Theale many years ago for our production ROLLING STONE (about Whatley Quarry stone traffic). Even then, we did excluded much of the route from the finished video because it had little of interest. Bearing in mind we have done Paddington to Reading, Castle Cary to Westbury and Taunton to Exeter. There isn't much of interest left to do and other routes must take priority. We hope to ROLLING STONE on line in the future.

    Last Saturday I was standing on the bridge at Bradford on Avon and looking at the other road bridge at 4:41 in the video. It is badly rusted with large holes. Why does NR let things deteriorate, perhaps beyond repair. Same with the bridge at Westbury Station. If the bridge in BoA gets closed it's going to add to the already bad congestion in the town and may lead to the line closure for months.

  • @joeymandrews

    @joeymandrews

    Yes, this would most likely have originated at Bristol Temple Meads bound for London Paddington via Chippenham, Swindon and Reading. At this moment in the video, it would have departed Bath Spa just minutes earlier.

    Ian was out of his cab in a small hut situated on the platform at Maiden Newton. Inside this hut is the electric key token instrument for the block section to Yeovil Pen Mill, which is operated by the train crew under the supervision of the signal operator based at Yeovil Pen Mill.

    You are confusing the two types of train. The former InterCity 125 is known as an HST. These are 100% diesel. The former InterCity 225 (known as class 91 loco hauled) is 100% electric. Although these are also high speed trains they are no known as HSTs. I hope that clears up the confusion.

    You do realise this is only a preview? Similar to when we see movie trailers. A preview/trailer gives us a taste of what the entire film will be like. Companies have to make money somehow to cover their production costs. If they made the entire duration free for viewing, they wouldn't make any money, and therefore wouldn't be able to cover their production costs, and in turn, wouldn't be able to afford to bring us more productions such as these in the future.
