WET SUMP Vs DRY SUMP, which is best and why
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Dry Sump Vs Wet Sump, Dry sump system, scavenge systems and windage explained plus some of the advantages and disadvantages of both engine lubrication systems commonly used in Motorsport. Some of the tricks used to overcome oil surge and excessive windage in wet sump engines.
Explaining of the terms,
Wet sump systems store the capacity of the engine oil in the engine sump but a dry sump system stores the engine oils capacity in a separate tank and pumps the engine oil pan clean leaving it essentially “dry”.
Scavenge is the term used in which the oil pump/s remove the oil from the engine oil pan. multiple scavenge systems are used to evacuate all the oil and windage from the crankcase of the engine. Scavenge stages may also be allocated to drain the lifter valley or the rocker covers.
Windage by definition is (the air resistance of a moving object, such as a vessel or a rotating machine part, or the force of the wind on a stationary object). Used to describe the forces in retarding the rotating components inside an engine by the presence of airborne engine oil.

Thanks for watching, Great suggestions! next time we do an LS dry sump conversion I will do a video to cover off which oil galleries need to be plugged and modified.

@@KCKLubricants thanks would be greatly appreciated
Question: With the dry sump , Is there more space for the engine to be lowered with dry sump configuration? if using aluminum for most all parts, Is there any weight savings with the dry sump? Would you say that dry sumps would cost more than wet ?

Good questions! Generally the weight of the plumbing for the dry sump adds more weight to the dry sump configuration, dry sump is considerably more expensive but does allow you to lower the engine in the chassis or to gain more clearance.
Great video, what about a semi-dry sump? I cannot find the info anywhere...

Thanks for watching! semi-dry is a variation of either depending on how they have gone about it. Which setup in particular and you chasing information for?
