the normal time it takes to hammersmith to north ealing is 25 mins and that old woman was complaining for spending 1 hour to get to hammersmtith to north ealing and back which is only a 10 min delay some people jeez

Cockneys for you. Get delayed by 30 seconds and it's like the world is coming to an end. Try living up where I live in the north west and see how you like a 2 carriage pacer at rush hour that's always late and only 1 service an hour.

Still better than the Tyne and Wear Metro. Leaves on the line often mean delays of up to half an hour, or a bus replacement service. And when the trains do run they are pushed too far and you can smell the motor burning. All for the sake of cleaning the tracks.

Lol you clearly haven't been on a tube train in rush hour... Sometimes there isn't even enough room to get on even with trains running every 1.5 - 2.5 mins. Having trains only every 15 minutes would be an absolute nightmare.

Nope the tube stock don't have sanding equipment (especially the older ones) from what I am aware of. But they do have some Rail adhension trains for both the deep level and sub-surface.

There are some experiments with lasers going on, but they are not production ready afaik. Air nozzles would not be strong enough because wet leaves really like to stick to stuff, just try it yourself...

people would be falling into the tracks if it was only every 25 mins on the tube, platforms in London fill up very quickly, and need trains every 2-3 mins at peak rush hour

They always blame vandals where I live. If a train is late or cancelled, its always vandals. I have never heard the " leaves on the line" excuse, ever.

BBC London, I've heard a rumour that these wheels were made in China, not even joking, spoke to numerous drivers and depot staff and they say the wheels are poorly made.

Adrian Dalangin - Well, I visited London quite a few times as a tourist. From my perspective as I'm not using it every day, it was the best metro in Europe, because it was very easy to understand and you can move fast through the city. Paris for example, was quite a horror back in 1999. But when I visited the US, there was no public transportation at all. There is no other way to visit the next town as using your car. Public transportation by bus is rare and public transportation by train is nearly non existant. It seemed like the people used their cars even for switching from the living room into the bath room. That's why I love using this stereotype every time when I see a comment from the US, like Dylan Hale's one.. :-)

Public transport in the US cities is a disaster, if you're lucky there is a metro within the city, but never frequent suburban trains going out into the suburbs. Perth WA doesn't have a metro within the city centre, but we have suburban lines that stop at a few stations in the city and run every 5-10 minutes.

I ride an automatic train every day to and from work. The way this damage is caused would happen ether way. The actual solution is to clean the tracks.

only themselves to blame for lack of investment in technology. Brake blocks, no ebs/abs. .are we still in Victorian times? I think we need to invest in some proper rail cleaning too. Never mind working with the drivers lol

The problem is more akin to trying to stop yourself from falling on a wet floor. When the leaves get onto the tracks and the trains run them over, it leaves a slippery, gooey gel residue. This condition is know, at least on North American railroads, as “Black Rail.” As the train tries to slow itself, the goo lowers the amount of friction the train is generating on the rails, causing the wheels to slide as the train’s forward momentum is not being overcome by the brakes like it should be, but the wheels are still moving as they should. This is what causes flat spots.

Because it uses trains that are 20+ years newer than the Piccadilly line (Piccadilly line: 1975, Northern Line: 1998)

Yes but the london underground gets so overcrowded that trains every 15 minutes would cause the station to close due to overcrowding. This happened last week at bank station.

TFL has excuses all the time. Too wet, too dry, too hot, too cold, too many leaves, too few leaves, too much wind, not enough wind, too much rain, snow... the list goes on. Is the TFL unfit to run their business? Honestly...other countries can do it, why not the UK ?

Did you not listen to the full video or something? There are genuine reasons behind the things that go wrong with the service, and I know you haven't said this, but there's no such thing as a perfect service in any case. London Underground does a pretty darn good job at keeping the system moving.

I think its sabotage to the trains like how the tram tracks by sandilands tram stop were sabotaged so that a packed tram would not be able to break & the tram drive right off the tracks & collapse on its side. its a tradegic story & must be investigated further...
