Television South West actually ended up going on the air unofficially on 12 August 1981, after Westward Television's management sold the company to its successor for £2.38million. TSW would continue to transmit under the Westward name until the end of the year.

The original Westward Start up film with the steam train was used from 1972-1980 as the IBA Clips channel has that one on their 80s Start up video from 25th August 1980 which was a Bank Holiday

I'm very surprised Westward were still using this in 1981 when ATV got a slap from the IBA over their 2 start up films, sung by Stephanie de Sykes

The problem lay in the fact that ATV's Sykes piece had sung lyrics. Southern got away with video footage for as long as their own piece didn't have lyrics and the video had nothing but physical attractions and other areas within the broadcast area.

We could get Westward in Neath. I remember this well.

So Westward wasn't really dead that year, it just went under new management.
