    That chord at 0:52-0:58 is so frigging solid you could build a house on it. Goosebumps every time I hear that intro. Every time I watch this entire performance, I shake my head and guffaw out an expletive when it finishes. Unbelievable.

    To edwards21416 You can bet there are guys in this chorus who were public school boys. The Barbershop Harmony Society it loaded with boys and men from every walk of life. There isn't a chorus in the society who wouldn't welcome a young singer from any school with open arms. What you're seeing here is the cream of the cream of the crop. These guys got here by virtue of ability and above all hard work and dedication. But anyone who loves singing and performing can find a place in the society.

    OH MY GAWD THE CHORDS IN THE INTRO HOLY CRAP.That augmented 6 chord at 4:11 is GOLD (i believe its an It+6)

  • @Paul_K_

    @Paul_K_

    9 жыл бұрын

    ***** It's just a 7th chord with a weird voicing. It's a G7 (in the key of B major) with the bass on the 3rd, baritone on the 7th a tritone above, the lead on the root a step above that, and the tenor on the 5th a 5th above the lead.

  • @Hector95100

    @Hector95100

    9 жыл бұрын

    .....that's an augmented 6 chord. Ger+6 to be specific. The only difference between It+6 chord and Ger+6 is one note. Ger+6 in the key of B is G7.... It+6 in the key of B is G7 without the 5th (D). So yeah. Still an Augmented 6.

  • @jcirmsa

    @jcirmsa

    9 жыл бұрын

    ***** If it helps, the chord is written B, E#, G, D in the key of B. Then it just resolves to a B chord with the Baritones jumping up to the B octave and the leads sliding down a half note. That's what it is in the sheet music, I don't know enough about theory to say what that is. I just know it was one of my favorite chords to sing!

    @TRPDDB hang on there. they weren't all "old" songs then, and songs had a longer shelf life than now, if only because it took longer for them to become as widely known. the concept is 4-part close harmony, unit sound, and arrangements (on paper or spontaneous, ie: woodshedding), with some chords that ring - you can try applying it to songs old and new. I'm trying to get some woodshedding going during the Quartets segment of our Tuesday night chorus rehearsals. Woodshedding is way cool.
