5 spirit higher than animal level will avoid it. If you're gathering resources a lot and don't care to run into the animals high spirit is good. I was this way until Digger's den came along. Now max attack speed with a pet is good. I get resources and wolf fangs & bear claws to trade at Mountain tribe, and hides from animals. Max damage or defense I haven't tried.
