So no major issues Friday night, was out late watching auroras. 5 hours later smoke so thick it effects visibility and eyes burning. We are northern Alberta. No crossover conditions ( high heat with low humidity), no major wind to speak of. How does that spread fires so massively in not ideal fire conditions? We had rain and snow just weeks earlier and fire risk was set to low here. Good moisture in the ground and river values are up. It took days to spread last your to create that much smoke under ideal fire conditions???🤔🤐

2023 was a record year for forest fires in Canada. 18.5 million hectares burned. 67% were human caused. This eclipsed the next record fire year in 1989 when 9.6million hectares burned. The $8Billion loss related to carbon emissions task force could have been utilized to buy much needed water bombers and fire equipment.

Tree museums don't do anybody any good. At least let the loggers cut fire breaks. It helps forest diversity. Less forest fires mean bigger fires when they do happen.

At 21:15 "could be target shooting". Highly unlikely. Of all the causes to pin blame on, this is not a good one. Tracer ammunition is not allowed on civilian ranges. Standard ammunition will not start fires. The only target shooting that would cause (and does) is larger scale military shoots contained within military training areas like Wainwright or Suffield. Yes these areas often catch fire during military training. Local firefighting precautions are taken. More advanced resources are available to fight fires on short notice. Ranges and impact areas are surrounded by fire breaks to prevent a fire spreading too far. Sorry to be picky. I'm just sensitive, in the current political climate, to anyone casually lumping more negative attention on target shooting.

Kyle you talk about arson fires, human caused fires, I found it curious that last September's fires tended to start in remote areas which have fracking or natural gas fields (clearings and networked). Do the exploration companies keep information on fires igniting a fracking rig? I have wondered about the amount of pyroCbs which happen in fracking zones?

For much of the last century, Smokey was the pitchman for the federal government's aggressive wildfire suppression policy. That tactic, some scientists believe, may have contributed along with climate change to making American forests vulnerable long-term to combustion. They call it “the Smokey Bear effect.”

No. But ocean warming, loss of coral breeding grounds, melting ice caps, unprecedented flooding and slow but sure, ocean rising, loss of the Atlantic Meridinal Ocean Current, record local temperatures and generally increasing numbers and regularity of extreme weather events and allow me to forecast record hurricanes on the east and Gulf, probably is.

No they do not , thats why Trees normaly get over 200 years old, says they did never face a fire in over 200 years !! But these Days in climate change , Trees do not even get 10 to 20 years old says they are dying as children and teenagers. Thats also the reason why Trees are not function anymore in climate change as Carbon storage. And we speaking here , not of the need of Fire, we are talking about the global Mass Extinction of Vegetation, what does also say the Mas Extinction of all other spcies , selfexplaining.
