I love how the remake handled this scene, and believe overall it's the superior version, but it is cute seeing them planning their wedding here. I like how Tony picks Riff as his best man. "Womb to tomb."

This scene succeeds precisely because it is not set inside a church. It speaks of the humble simplicity of their dream and the hopeless impossibility of having that dream realised. Without stating it, the set design is telling their story in a visual way. The power of this scene is that their love has transformed the place into a church: the architecture and cinematography create the impression of a stained glass lit cathedral, the mannequins become their wedding guests, and observe who they're kneeling towards. We, the audience, assume the role of the Priest! They are asking US to bless their sacred union! What a sublime piece of art! The new version has other things to offer, but I don't think it reached this level of depth and imagination. In the words of Miranda Priestly, "A wedding. In a church. Groundbreaking."

Just found out they made a remake like five min ago!! Argh! Its so frustrating when they remake such classics like this. It must be such a waste of money knowing they're never, ever, ever going to outdo the original, and that it'll be a thing for five minutes, then immediately forgotten.....does that not cross their minds when filming, I wonder .

A group of genius made this cinematographic achievement of the Broadway musical. The music of Bernstein is so meticulously composed to relect the heartbeat of tragedic heroes and heroines. There is a literally ecstatic sublimation of musical emotions. We are tossed into the space with the power of the beautiful melodies.

Even though looks wise, shes off, I think natalie does a fine job. Considering the rumors that she and Richard beymer were not fond of each other, I think their chemistry is really on.
