People often say how others should speak 'in America', rather than in the United States of America (emphasis on the "of"), and also neglect to acknowledge the irony, seeing as the U.S. is supposedly meant to be a cultural melting pot and no longer under English rule.

What I really like about the series is the slight weight gain she gets. It shows how much she stopped taking care of herself when compared to when she was living in New York. It’s a very subtle visual impact on the character that makes the performance all that more convincing.

Well, they are both parodies of other 'classic' Disney songs and big opening musical acts, so it's not so strange. It's a touch more tongue-in-cheek with Enchanted, since it IS a Disney movie, but Crazy Ex Girlfriend is by no means less creative for it. :D

I knew this show was my type of humour as soon as I heard the line "See the sparkle of the concrete ground." The idea of being so infatuated and head-over-heels that CONCRETE impresses you AFTER MOVING FROM NEW YORK is just the perfect encapsulation of both the feeling of being overjoyed and the weird happy overtones of broadway musicals.

It took me 2 episodes to actually process that it was a musical. I thought West Covina was the theme song until they played the actual theme in episode 2 and I was just like "Oh okay, I guess I'm watching a 100+ hour musical now. 🤷‍♀️"

I think Deborah was supposed to reflect that in the fourth intro. She's basically just like perfect... Compared to Rebecca... But not in the right mind while Rebecca is grounded and proper now.

I love how her hair gets wavier the moment she steps out of the taxi. They use this visual cue for the rest of the series to represent Rebecca letting loose and it becomes more apparent every time Audra makes an appearance donning Rebecca’s old “uptight” hairstyle.

I live in West Covina and have gone to that movie plaza 100+ times 1. No adds in those little pillar things 2. The plaza never has more than like 3 ppl there 3. There is no cart that sells anime wigs or pretzels 4. It’s only an hour to get to the beach

Idk if anyone agrees with me but I straight up love Rebecca’s New York work outfit and her hair like I know it’s her at her worst but like she looks so good 😭

I don't know if the pretzel stuff was intentional foreshadowing, but it is fantastic how it fits into the current season.

I hadn't noticed until now that when she sings "I'm hopelessly desperately in love with..." at that moment her head blocks the lettering on the store sign "Joe's Fish" to spell "Jo____sh". Okay, THAT was clever.

Best show on television in the last 20 years

thinking about how she sang "true happiness is so near..." and then four seasons later, she finally found true happiness :") we love rebecca's character development.

The hints at her possible bisexuality were there since day one - that stripper scene lmaoo

I just love how much she imagines West Covina as a glorious, happy place to live. So much so, even the concrete sparkles haha💖🥨

OMG the Josh theme subtly played on oboe at 1:13 ! Meant to represent her beating heart :)

My friend recommended this show to me, and I had no idea what to expect. But after this song...I was completely hooked! Blew me away

The way her dresses changes from a business a-line in ny to a circle skirt with rhinestones in West Covina lol

They really got the whole concept of euphoria in bpd it lasts like a day then you get agitated then happy as fuck again all in a few hours.

I bet this song plays on repeat at West Covina City Hall.

This has been my favorite song in the show so far. A great intro to a fantastic show!

This show was so well-made! I find myself thinking I got my drive to be what I want to be career-wise subconsciously from binge watching Rebecca Bunch being assertive

That moment where she throws her jacket and it just lands in a guy's hands instead of flying off of the screen was what begun my love for this show.

I've watched this music video for ages... just now noticing the dude she chucks her blazer to. AMAZING. Detail like this ("The situation's a lot more nuanced than that!") is why I think about this show literally every day.

my favorite running gag is that the distance from the beach slowly grows from 1.5 hours to 4 as the first season spirals into disaster.

This makes me homesick lol 💜 I miss this show

wow. i’ve just finished season 4 and coming back to the beginning is so weird, in a good way. so different. i can now watch this playlist on random without worrying about spoilers.

I really hope the amount of creativity, positive representation, and musical references in this show become a trend in other shows after CXG's critical success.

Just realizing some of the symbolism. In New York when she breaks into song everyone looks at her like she’s insane but in West Covina people join in with her. I feel like it’s symbolic of how her true self fits in so much more in West Covina.

Stellar the east coast is definitely more cold and isolating than what I assume the west coast is like, but yeah the symbolism holds true in that people in the east would find so much self expression to be taboo

small cute detail that during the budget cut part someone says "nice dress"

I am like the happiest person ever, that main protagonist is an alto and I am able to sing these songs, cuz it's like 99% of musical/cartoon protagonists are sopranos or messosopranos or contraltos and I am not able to reach most of their notes, but here - I can and it doesn't sound flat. This makes my life, you can't even imagine! Love you Rachel and your awesome show! :D

As someone who actually lives ten minutes from West Covina, this is very much what it looks like. It is not an interesting place. I still don't really understand why this was the random place they picked, but it does add an extra bit of fun to watching I suppose.
