Wes Audio NG Tube EQ Review - An Honest Audio Gear Review

Музыка

In this video I review the Wes Audio NG Tube EQ and talk about the reasons why I have decided to add one to my mastering chain. What does it bring to the chain and the unique features no other EQ has. This EQ is so much more than just another EQ with a different sound and flavour.

    Likewise. I reserved judgement thinking it would be somewhat fiddly to work with and rely way too much on the plugin to get full access to its features. However after getting it I quickly realised everything is accessible from the hardware and not too complicated to use. No real menu diving. And the sound of that tube output really surprised me. Also the fact you can switch output in the unit. Unlike other EQs and you choose the output on the back via the XLR outs.

    Yes can't wait to receive the HE2. Going to be going onto my mix bus with the Wes Audio bus comp and Tube EQ. I was informed the same as you, has been pushed back due to supply issues. I think the mid June release date is quite solid though. I won't be able to get early access because of this. But as soon as it arrives with me I'll be getting a video shot and also will be making some presets for it for Cranborne Audio. Glad you are liking the Ferrofish. You know the issue with getting outside help on something like an interface. Everyone will recommend what they use. I have no horse in the race and out of everything you could have bought. I think the Ferrofish suited you best. And as someone that previously had one I know I can recommend them as a good interface that is solid.

  • @AudioAnimalsStudio

    @AudioAnimalsStudio

    2 ай бұрын

    As we are on the subject of Wes Audio the hyperion would be a great option. Digital recall as well in that. The Elysia Xfilter and SSL ultraviolet are 2 EQs that are very affordable. You get a lot for your money there. The Xfilter is really good, I used to have one and loved it. Only sold it when I switched it for the Elysis MusEQ. I found the ultraviolet to be good. I had 2 and found them to sound like a SSL. A touch vanilla and boring though. No real sound. Just a really nice clean EQ. The Maag EQ4s are great also. No selectable frequency though. You have fixed bands. The sub and airband are great on those. I just looked on the SX Pro website where I buy my gear and they have the SSL ultraviolet 21% off at £379. Going by that price, that's the one I'd buy. You can't go wrong. I paid £999 each for mine.

    @@JimboJones99 I wouldn't say it loses a bit of bottom end. It certainly doesn't add weight to the bottom end like a tube EQ would. This could be down to converters. @JimboJones99 I was also using a Ferrofish when I had the ultraviolets and I can't say I noticed a lack of bottom end. Definitely not your converters. What I always do which I find helpful is run your gear through plugin doctor. It's a really good way of seeing exactly what the hardware is doing. I've used the Bettermaker a number of times. It's a nice EQ and has greater functionality. Nothing unique about how it sounds. Quite vanilla and clean. Which is great if you want a clean EQ that doesn't have too much of a sound to. Personally I'd rather stay in the box for that kind of sounds. As that's more the plugin sound. The Wes Audio NG Tube EQ is on a different level. That's a next level mastering EQ with the option of being clean or add that Tube warmth. If you bought a bettermaker EQ, you'd one day wish you had the NG tube EQ instead. I'd highly recommend the tube EQ. That's why I bought one and never bothered to add a bettermaker EQ.

Exactly what you'd want from a bus comp with the added benefit of plugin recall. Reasonably priced too. Every product Wes Audio release going forward I'm going to be getting. Nice ... "The sound" is the most important thing for me, and 5 db of gain in mastering is not enough if you ask me; because sometimes you do a mix (eq settings on a mix) that deliberatly aims the more bold use of mastering eq later, so you get more of that magical analog sound; you can make drastic moves. EDM is a fine example of this. It's high energy and 5db of gain up or down is nothing; it's a start, haha. it's a great unit, but they put 101 feature in there that you'll almost never use in mastering just to pump up the price. It's confusing as it is and the last thing you want is more confusion, haha. The sound is good, but if you have 6 or seven high end eq's I doubt it will make a difference; you have SPL, you have Elysia 4 band eq etc., you can move heaven and hell just with these two. :)) By the way my SPL Vitalizer has arrived and it's a bomb of a unit. Great sound in 30 seconds. :)

  • @AudioAnimalsStudio

    @AudioAnimalsStudio

    2 ай бұрын

    That is why you have the option of 5db or 15db. If you find yourself needing more than 5db you just switch to 15db. The 101 features designed for what mastering engineers want and need believe will be used. We're currently using solo band in the box as that's the only option. Having that out the box is something we will all make very good use of. Being able to solo the mid and solo the side to be able to audition what you are processing is also something mastering engineers will find very useful. I think if you were to use it and fully understand the features you'd take a different view point. As someone that has everything at my disposal this is a unit that gives me features I would otherwise need to use in the box.
