Wenwu | The Mandarin Theme (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Soundtrack)

This guy became my Second favorite MCU villain, right behind Thanos. I really loved how relatable he is, he is more of a grey character instead of a unidimensional villain like Dreykov for example
He did exactly what we would do if we were in his shoes, don't get me wrong, he did horrible things... but can you blame him?

I think the sadest part of his character was seeing how much of a loving father he was when his wife was alive he really did change and he was happy. And in the end you see that while yes he trained Shang Chi, it was mainly to prevent him from having the same fate as his wife and Shang Chi agreed to the training.

@Ninja Gamer Not really. Thanos thought his purpose was to save the universe by erasing half of life, most of them being innocent. While Wen Wu genuinely thought his wife was being trapped by her own people and her children deceived. It's not like they didn't give him reason to think they were manipulative either. It's a misunderstanding amplified by his skepticism to human nature having lived a long life. He knows that people are capable of long-term lies and deceit and things aren't always at it seems. Even much more saddening is that he was willing to kill his son and daughter for the chance to feel something... a life that was full and worth more than his past and future... he was living in stead at peace with someone who he actually adored but as the menacing side of his theme shows he's not a warrior ment to wrought destruction but a father who's willing to burn everything in his path to feel a love he lost not knowing he had it with his own as well... even at the end he could have tried to fight but he knew it was his time to be back to his father role not the conqueror leader he was...

You know, To be honest, I don’t even see him as an antagonist in the movie. Yes, he was a terrorist, yes he lived thousand years, conquered countless empires, but when he met his love, he really did change, he became good husband and caring father. And the main antagonist is that monster behind the gates who was sending illusions into Wenwu’s mind. He was just simply a Man who wanted to save his wife, that’s what he believed, but as I said he’s not a villain here, the big ugly monster is.

One thing I noticed about the Mandarin is that, as far as MCU villains go, Wenwu is arguably the equal and opposite to Ego the Living Planet… Both of them started out with plans to act as immortal conquerors. Both of them had their plans halted, when they unexpectedly met a woman and fell in love. Both of them reverted to their villainous selves after the deaths of said women. Both of them are in conflict with their respective sons whom they tried to mold against their will, Shang-Chi and Peter Quill. And finally, they both initiate disasters which could have become cosmic level threats if unchecked. However, while Wenwu grew bored with conquering and found new purpose in life through his new family, Ego remained “disappointed” with the lives of “lesser” beings and found his own infatuation with Quill’s mom to be a threat to his sense of purpose. So Wenwu’s descent back into darkness was due to his wife being murdered, him being unable to live on without her, desperately seeking any delusion to get her back. But Ego’s descent into complete villainy was due to him being unable to go on conquering, as long as his girlfriend was still alive, then actually killing her himself with the brain tumor. When the Mandarin finally learned the folly of his actions too late, he at least died giving the rings to his son to help rectify the disaster he started. But Ego still refused to learn any lessons and died remorseless, for trying to enslave his own son and spread himself across universe to consume it. So the Mandarin is more redeemable by comparison, while Ego is far more malevolent and morally depraved.
