VIDEO CREDITS
Thank you so so much to super Kevin for writing the spanish subtitles! We loooove you Keviin!
All my music is from Epidemic Sound
Camera
all videos filmed until December 2019 were filmed with a Canon EOS m with a 22mm lens (REALLY recommend if you're starting out, although it doesn't have a manual focus mode, it's cheap and the quality is great)
Now I'm using a Canon EOS M6 mark II with a 22mm lens
I use DaVinci Resolve for editing!
Things you don't know about this video: filmed so many intro versions cause I feel so darn awkward and I couldn't get it right. I feel like now everything takes me more energy and I have less tolerance when I get frustrated, like I feel deflated more easily! So I'm trying to learn my new boundaries and how much I can push myself now. This was also the first time I've been to BLICK's since January so it was mega surreal to visit that area again! I thought taking the subway in NYC was going to be MEGA scary and I was going to feel anxious, but in reality it's mostly empty, everybody is wearing a mask and keeping distance. So I felt super safe!
Plans for this weekend: Have to do travel-COVID-preventative quarantine after visiting my brother in Nashville, so as I'm writing this I'm making pancakes and planning my week while staying at home : )

Finally, someone who understands my love/pickiness of pens. I'm not even an artist and my handwriting is a nightmare on fire. But a good pen is so hard to find, and when you have one - there is this simple joy that comes from using it that sets it apart from anything else.

We STAN therapy and meds!! I've had depression and anxiety on and off for several years at this point. When my therapist started to suggest meds I was resistant because I didn't think my depression was that bad. When I finally started meds, it helped immediately on the smallest dose and I have been on them since. There's a little bit of trial and error to get the dose right but once you do, life gets way easier.

YES! As a teenager, I knew I was dealing with depression, but I didn't reach out to my doctor about it until I was 24. I've been on medication for 2 years with some periods of adjustment by changing the medication here and there, and I'm finally feeling on track again. I feel myself again. I missed this person, and I'm glad to continue to see who I'm becoming.

This is an old comment but I just want to echo your positive experience with meds, I also had an immediate positive impact on the smallest dose!. So I'm all for people at least trying medication
Something tells me that you’ll end up drawing with a fountain pen, you want super black ink, some scratchy feeling... maybe a extra fine Kakuno pen with a good black pigment ink would do for you.

I was so heartbroken when I realized that hexagonal muji pen was discontinued.... I also pray for the day I bump into you at that artists & craftsman 🥺from like 6ft away of course
I LOVED this video. I am such a nerd for art supplies as a designer and illustrator myself. After going through numerous boxes of microns I finally settled for a set of Rapidograph pens and never looked back. They can be annoying to clean, but you can really get to know the pen as you just refill the ink. Secondly as someone who has fought with anxiety and deep depression you have the perfect mindset going into seeing a therapist & psychologist. There is NO shame in taking meds for your mental health, and never think that you are anything less for taking them. :)
I have yet to find a thin pen I like so this is super helpful. I didn't mind the Pilot G-4(?) but it does grab the paper and I found that a lot of thin pens did that, like they were scratching the paper and it sucks but I guess it makes sense. And I also don't like the chiselling on the felt pens. I don't understand why brands discontinue good thing, it sucks. >:( On another note, Fran, if you ever need another human bean to talk to about depression stuffs drop me a message. I've been through a lot of medications to find the perfect one for myself, it may take a bit of time to find the perfect one but it's worth it to have the crutch while you get back to normalness.
“There’s no prize, this is it” 😂 it was so cool seeing all these pens
Would you consider selling copies of the sketchbook you’ve been working on? It is so intriguing getting glimpses of it!
Ahora me voy motivado a probar todas mis microfibras, plumas y lapiceras
"Depression makes all things hard" ...that's probably one of the best summaries of depression I've ever heard
YESSS so excited everytime you post a new vid. Thank you for talking about real things like mental health struggles and stuff. Drawing is very therapeutic. Good to see that you have something you love doing Fran. Love your vids so much ❤❤
Girl, you know what? Brava you for being so natural about therapy, medication, psychiatrists and so on. I love that you put those topics on the table and you say "hey, I am through this. It's OK". I've been through this Fran, it will simply go and this will be just another chapter. Besos desde España.
Somewhere in some language, there must be a word that describes the pleasure of going to an art supplies store. Also must exist a word that describes the pleasure of writing and drawing with a good pen.
In the case that somebody likes the 10:24 theme, it´s called "Strollin with you" by Franz Gordon :)
I run a blog (for ten years) all about pens... so I COMPLETELY understand. Preach, sister.
I love me a good nerdy chat about art supplies! There’s no shame in taking medication, and it good to recognize when your problems are bigger than you. I pray for you and think of you often. Much love from California 😘
no one catchs my attention, as fast and passionately as you Fran, regarding pen review
I know with a little bit of patience you can refill both gel and ballpoint pens with a syringe and fountain pen ink. If you still have one of the muji pens, when it runs out, maybe you can try hand refilling it. That way it’s never gone for you 😊
What a great video!! Well I did find some on Amazon and eBay but somebody said the refills for the MUJI Hex .07 they get on Amazon and are the following…”Ohto 897NP Needlepoint Ballpoint Refill, 0.7 mm.” I realized that the same maker OHTO also sells the pens with the refills, so that might be a comparable type… I am going to try them… Thanks again for being you!💗
Fran, thanks for still be in contact with us, for being so brave and open. I have been following you for a while now and I really feel always so inspire by you. Your videos make my day better ^_^. I'm really thankful and maybe you don't dimention the impact that you make in other but you really do. So I want, not only to thank you, but also send you the best positive vibes and love in this difficult times for you. You are braver than you think. Keep walking, learning and growing as a better person. Big hug!
Loved this video Fran!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 It was super calming to watch and so much fun to geek out on pens (am I the only one loving this kind of stuff?! Surely not...) Sending you lots of love Fran 🌻
Hey Fran, Have you ever tried Rotring Isograph pens? That's what I use. I originally got them because they are refillable, because I'm trying to cut out plastic. But they are actually a really lovely pen. Metal tip, really fine, and you can use them again and again! Sorry to throw another pen into the mix, but I thought you might really like it.

@@Insidekimsworld Hahahaha. This was exactly me. Isograph pens too expensive but still want to avoid repeatedly throwing out used pens... and now many many fountain pens later I realised how off tangent I went ideal-budget-wise, heh.
Every time I go back to this video I am just shook. The amount of detail, insights, and advice that is shared for each of these pens (not to mention the rad illustrations sampled for each one!). It’s true devotion. Fran you are the realest 🙌🏽👏🏽✨
It’s so cool listening a KZreadr who addresses depression. Sometimes everything sucks and that’s ok! I’m done with overly positive KZread artist.
Fran! I've been waiting so bad 😍😍. I also visited the same shop after I watched your video last time. I hope we can meet in the same shop one day haha I currently using Pigma Micron pen but I will try those pens that you introduced!!
Fran is now a black pen expert and I'm here for it.
I have been going to the same psychiatrist for over 15 years. She is very pragmatic and is a partner. I take a light dose of meds and it has made my life so much better. Be strong. Be brave. Do what feels right for you. This is the first video I have watched from you. Make great art.
This may be my favourite video you have EVER made. I love your nerdy obsessional determination to get the RIGHT pen. I understand this. This video spoke to me. 😂 I hope you feel much better very soon.
I had the same fear of taking meds for my bipolar issues and I told the doctor I was afraid of that so she told me we could start slowly and see the results. She adjusted the doses as time went by and now, 6 months later, the medication allows me to have better days. Don’t be afraid, Fran! Talk to your doc and let them know your fears! everything will be fine :)
But the prize IS hearing you talk about the pens. I can watch you talk about your art supply preferences for hours.
Personally I use Faber-castell pitt pen ecco pigment. It's really waterproof so it works great for watercolor, it can also be used with alcohol base markers.

Thank you for this video, Fran. It's like I'm going for a walk or shopping with you. It's nice to see that life goes on. I work from home and spend most of my time in the house. I miss going to the city centre and just browsing at the shops. Sending lots of love to you from Athens, Greece.
Love your drawings, your sense of humor, and your willingness to go down that rabbit hole and research the crap out of a singular subject. Kindred spirit! Hope you are feeling better! :)
Thank you so so so much i love stationary videos ❤️
Fran, don't worry about taking medication. (I've been taking them for about a year now and it's helping.) However, I recommend you to take note or do a mood tracker. Whenever you feel that it's not ok, just tell your psychiatrist immediately. So, the doctor can adjust the dose or change the medication for you. Take care!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling. I am, too. but the most peaceful parts of my day is alway watching one of my favorite art/vlog channels. thanks so much, Fran. 💘

Loving the pinkness of your hair here Fran 😍 Sooo pretty! I’m so jealous you can maintain this color, my hair got so crispy went I tried to go this light! Also, I appreciate how thorough you are with your pen experience. I sincerely hope you get to a better place sooner rather than later and please continue to find your joy in pens and drawing or whatever makes you happy 😊
PLEASE! Look into investing in a Rotring Isograph or rapidograph! They have metallic tips and are available in crazy small sizes! They last for a lifetime and you just refill them. Yes, they are expensive, but they are lifelong companions! :)
Thank you for still doing your vlogs Fran, even tho you're going thru depression.. we appreciate it! And we love your tool reviews! hugs from Manila 🤗

This video is soooo good ! I loved the editing as well, really creative - it looks simple yet it's easy to see how much work and love you put into it. Also, it's such a pleasure to see you talking about pens with so much details and passion 😍 I don't even draw with pens on a regular basis, I draw more with pencils, but this just made me want to draw with a pen right away. As always, you are so inspiring. Please take care of your beautiful self, sending lots of love 💕
This is such a helpful way to review pens! I'm glad that you've found help that's right for you, therapy was really helpful for me too when I was seeing the right therapist. (Your hair looks great)
Thank you for another wonderful video! I always enjoying watching with some tasty snacks and tea or coffee. 💕🥰
I love you even more for the fact that though you are going through a difficult difficult time, you still film videos and maybe you don't even realize but you give a lot of courage to those of us who battle with our own demons on a daily basis! ❤
Battling depression IS hard, and we are all rooting for you. I really believe that you will find an easier, more peaceful time at the end of it. I have chronic depression, and it will never 100% go away, but with therapy and meds it's a LOT better. I'm glad drawing is still something that you can find joy in. Art can be super therapeutic.
I missed you so much💛 Yay! You're back
