Wendy's plans to test surge pricing in restaurants
Wendy's is planning to roll out a "dynamic pricing" model for its menu in 2025, meaning prices will change throughout the day based on a few different factors. CBS News senior business and technology correspondent Jo Ling Kent explains.

Yeah, that’s called price gouging. Not price surging or dynamic pricing.

You know, they just built a Wendy's in my little town that would be opening any day now and I had planned to stop in but hearing this news - whether or they're using their new pricing scheme - Wendy's is off my list.. They're dead to me.. (In Ontario, Canada they call it Peak Period Pricing applied to electricity using "Smart Meters".)
They spent 20 Million dollars on this program instead of paying their workers better.

CEOs deserve ever dollar they earn. That group is rare and 99.999% of workers don’t have the talent to become CEOs. On top of that the average CEO tenure is 5 years bc two bad quarters and the Board will kick you out. If you want to push to raise minimum wages for low skilled workers, then don’t be shocked when you have to pay higher prices…

@@Chad_Max Wow. Do a little critical thinking here. In 1965, the average CEO earned 21x what their average employee earned. By 2022, corporate executive greed has escalated so that CEOs are now, on average, making 344 times what their average worker makes. Another fun statistic for you: from 1978 to 2022, the average worker's salary increased 15.3% while the average CEO's salary increased 1,209.2%. ONE THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED AND NINE point two percent. If you're a Gen Z or Millennial, perhaps you just assume that CEOs should be feudal lords making stratospheric salaries, but for other generations, we can remember when things were different. (Source for the stats: Economic Policy Institute, a non-profit, nonpartisan think tank). Or maybe you're a CEO justifying your 1% existence on the backs of your employees.

The reason fast food works is that it's way more convenient than making burgers and fries at home, and what's more, almost nobody wants to do the double-fry technique required to make fries taste like and have the texture of good fast food fries. Fries made at home tend to be like the worst fast food places like In-N-Out or Wingstop (two places that also don't double-fry even though they should know better.)

Well, I already don't eat out very often, and it's been about 1 yr since I went to Wendy's. I like Wendy's, but fast food has gotten too damn expensive so I cook at home, which is also too damn expensive these days.
Bad idea. Near by fast food outlets could easily undercut price surging Wendy's and make it up on volume.

Hello Wendy’s - remember ‘Bud Light’ ??? Do these companies not think thru these decisions before rolling something out ? Dave, who did you leave in charge ?
to quote george carlin. Changing the name of something doesn't mean you've changed the outcome. Price Gouging is price gouging, they are trying to rip you people off.
I'm sure they're already charging more than they need to. How do we even know if the prices need to be increased? Are the prices only getting increased when there's demand or when they want more money? When they mention shareholders you already know they don't care about ripping off the consumer.
I won't be shopping at Wendy's anymore.
I will definitely not be eating at Wendy’s. That’s going to be a hard stop
We won't be eating there.
I’d prefer NOT to hear from rich CEOs…most are out of touch with folks that purchase their products 🤬
I haven't eaten at a Wendy's in decades. Well, price gouging is a good way to ensure that that streak continues.
Fast food was really meant to be priced so that most younger people could afford to eat there. Not anymore.
As of today, I'm DONE with Wendy's. Never EVER going back!!
It’s going to tank the stock.
Thats just pathetic and stupid.
It use to be you got a discount on food near the closing hours that benefited both the customer and the store owner. Greed has now taken over the industry!
This is one more reason to choose a new place to eat.
The food isnt worth it. No fast food is. They need to be lowering the prices.
Nothing like making you wait while charging you more bye bye Wendy's ¡!!
I guess the price hike is worth not going to the next location. That is just evil. smh
Just wait until people pull through the drive thru, see the prices, and then decide not to order. This idea will fail hard.

Once they've made the trip, they'll probably bite their tongue and make a purchase. But they'll be a lot less likely to return. I predict this is going to fail sensationally.
You know maybe instead of pleasing your stock holders, you please the "loyal customer" lining their pockets.
AI will then start "dynamic" pricing when you order drive through depending on how expensive your car is.
It’s all about extracting more money from the consumer. Stop going to WENDY’s folks.
This is going to backfire on them SO hard. It’s just price gouging, they aren’t even trying to hide it
In other words if I ask for a cheeseburger with NO Onion NO Tomato and NO Mustard!= they should take off about 60cents off of the regular price of that particular cheeseburger! 🍔
They rolling out a bankruptcy speedrun
-They said AI wouldn’t impact hiring efforts. That was a lie. - They said AI wouldn’t impact employee wages. That was a lie. - They said AI wouldn’t cause an increase in prices. That was a lie. So why are we using more AI to do LESS work and STILL increasing prices??
Late stage capitalism. You just lost a customer because of your greed. What if you came to buy and you see the price go up before your eyes. I don't like. JIT is a stupid idea!
I think I will try not buying at all and see what that does to peak prices. Oh dynamic pricing they call it. I call it BS!
I rarely go to Wendy’s…will go less in 2025….dumb move…
I'm sure a multi-million dollar corporation like Wendy's will also implement surge wage increases for those really really busy times to show that they value their employees as much as their profit margins.
Do the employees get surge compensation? Bet not.
Wendy’s is struggling so they are raising prices. That makes sense…

Goodbye Wendy's have a nice bankruptcy! When you get greedy you get gone.
What a stupid idea. They really think consumers will like not knowing how much their food at a fast food restaurant will cost when they show up, having it different every time they show up, or being gauged just because they eat their meal at a busy time? If I was used to a burger costing $4 at my regular joint and I showed up for lunch one day and the AI told them to change the menu price to $7 because it was "busy" I would leave the drive thru and never come back.
Boycotting bye the food sucks anyways
No more eating out!! Anywhere. Sick of this crap!
Wendy's is already charging $2.49 for a soda, that probably cost them ten or twenty cents! Plus, their pretzel Baconator meal is $13.49! I just ate at Applebee's & paid $12.50 for a complete meal with a large salad! When you can eat at a "sit-down: restaurant, for less than a "fast-food: one, something is out of whack!
What’s going to happen is their going to lower pricing during off peak times but keep the same pricing during peak times- this whole surge pricing is a joke now, I don’t believe it for one minute because no one will eat there if they raise their pricing during peak times
Wendy's is already insanely expensive. $11 for a cheeseburger and fries.
Surge pricing works for services not commodities.
They already lost my business when there kiosk let me order items they were out of and supposedly weren't capable of giving me a refund.
