I watched this video as a newly minted grill dude at Wendy’s in 1994. First job I ever had. I remember Dave being very friendly in the vid. I got good at it. I’d have 30-40 Singles going and another 30 juniors going at the same time during rush. Each one got the “Four corner press”. I EARNED that minimum wage! Oddly enough - it was one of the most satisfying jobs I ever had. I liked seeing people enjoy their food in the dining room. That, and seeing the Super-Bar again made me crack a smile… 4 years later, I was a Marine. Haha. Good memories…

Remember guys the patty is square so the meat hangs over the side of the bun.

No it's cause WE DON'T CUT CORNERS
Having worked at Wendy's the meat is square for packaging reasons, Square patties fit much easier into a box than round patties. Dave simply exploited this fact and market the 'we dont cut corners' around it.
@DH1986

Wendy's probably special orders it that way to stand out. If it was a cost cutting measure than Mc Donalds would have went square years ago.

I came across this video from my Human Resource college class. Watching this training video from Wendy's in 1989 makes me want to quit school, quit my job, and work for Wendy's. The most genius training video ever. Thank you, Dave Thomas and Rest In Peace knowing you KILLED IT in the training video game!
How did it come to this? 1am and I’m watching a 30 year old Wendys training video.... AND LOVING IT! Bring back the SUPERBAR!!!
Strange enough this video is still more informative than the current training video.
the best in the bin'us
You notice that the meat seems to have a lot of water and fat in it. That is why the patties shrink and why so much pressing is encouraged. This being a training film and not an advert, they had to be honest that the grill almost immediately pools with grease, and, that you have to let a bunch of grease drip off the patty so it doesn't disintegrate the bun. its probably 60/40 beef. "These burgers are hella greasy son." drain that fat so it doesn't soak the bun" "the burgers are going to shrink as the grill gets damp" press it hard so its not the size of a postage stamp" "show up and work so you can get paid" "$7.25 that's the minimum wage" "you tripped out and you think your in here with me" "dropping acid before your shift is no way to be" "keep your head straight and don't act up" "or that boss lady will make you pee in a cup"

I'm pretty sure this guy shit himself when he realized he was taking Dave Thomas's order.
Ah, when Dave used to be in every single Wendy’s commercial.
Dave Thomas was the heart of Wendy's, and Wendy's, for me, had the best burger chain in the early/mid 90's.
As a Wendy's employee, I wish my job training was this cool.

i gotta be honest here man, that whole grillin' rap segment was really good. very well made and the rapper dude made an amazing job with the choreograph and such. 10/10
Poor Dave Thomas. He doesn't know that his burgers now are cooked by a press grill like Mac Donalds. This Manual Cooking theory It is not practiced anymore. Now a grill cooks it and pops open when the patties are done. No more hanging over the buns

Congrats, you just gave me a new song to annoy my friends with.
New ringtone.
Wendy's replaced the grills in a lot of their stores with a new double-sided grill that presses the meat for you, and cooks in less time. Only the old Wendy's, or what they call the "old image" stores still require manually pressing meat.
Dave was a true renaissance man. If he were alive, we could still get our jr. bacons for a buck. RIP
I hope my first psychotic episode is as visually entertaining as this.

I've been watching old training videos for the last hour, FML 😂😂😂😂
This uses the classic story-within-a-story technique, just like Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew' and '1,001 Arabian Nights'. It was also surely a valuable project for the actors who participated, as it prepared them for long careers in "one of the most important jobs at Wendy's". The only thing that confuses me is why Bill didn't see a video of himself coming to work at the beginning. He must have been watching a different version. RIP SuperBar :(

Love the sound effects from Pink Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine" track.
"I want you to remember we only serve 100% pure ground beef" sooo... don't be going out and replacing it w/none of that tofurkey on your lunch breaks.
3:30 That's the start of "Welcome to the Machine" by Pink Floyd.
I think the most interesting thing here is that retro monitor and video combo unit!

I like how when the camera switches to the TV the beginning part of Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine" is played. Very fitting now that the intended viewer would be working for a corporation. Or "the machine" in this case.
This video had something for everyone.

Wow the year I was born....things seemed so much more wholesome and real back then....they truly took time to make this training video and train their employees.....now going into wendy or McDonalds is a absolute joke, fast food restaurants had a standard in the 80s and early 90s
