Nice comparison, I used to have a 257, wish I still had it, and now have a wemars and nice to see head to head! Good video 👍

My ported china saws with a 372 carb/bigger intake cut at close to 13000rpm, stock they were close to 10000rpm in the cut. They're like the wemars but orange, ones 61cc the other 54cc, the 54 revs a little higher(15000rpm no load) and is nicer half the time because of it.

I'm glad to see this comparison. I've been really impressed with my cheap saws (Vehpro 50cc , Salem Master 62cc, and an Ebay 68cc that was really 58cc)

Well one number has to be bigger than what it really is with these Chinese saws and hey why not make it the first number 😂

Iam impressed with the Wemar. I got like 15 Stihls from 192 and 3s to 084 , 064. Even got Huskys. But for the price. I love the way it runs. Just adjust the carb to smooth it out. Broke it in on 40:1. And running it on Stihl mix 50: 1. Used it on a few tree jobs. It already paid for it self. Now just a different color toy like the Hossforma 660s. I got one ported Hossforma and one stock. Done deal

Those 257’s come alive with a good muffler mod and alittle machine work- port work. Its dont take much. If you can find the bigger hda87 carb and mesh filter that helps alot to.

Almost as satisfying as a normal wackoff; thanks. Perhaps you could lobby for two classes of Wild Thing competitions at Sawfest. Watching some of the other builders use power adders (nitro) maybe there should be working saw and unlimited classes.

The 57cc saws (56.5 I believe) very likely will run happier stock with a .325 chain. And full 60cc saws love them but likely cut the same as they would with 3/8 time wise.

I just bought a 257 the other day, I think a 261 cylinder will fit it , might make for a good combo

Yep, a 262/261 cylinder and piston is a easy bolt on swap. You can even keep the 257 top cover if you swap the air filter to the smaller 242 one. The Dukes Nikasil aftermarket kit is supposed to be good, haven't upgraded my 257 yet though.

Thanks for taching that Wemar for me. That's interesting they claim it only pulls 8500. It sounds faster than 8500 that's why I asked.

As I said before I am almost sure this 8500 rpm is the rotational speed where the engine is at its peak power. At least according to them.

This is the second one I've had in my hands. Both seem fine...then you put them up against something else and you figure out real quick...they ain't all that. But Cajun gave me his recommendations for port work, and he has good success getting them to come alive. I'm sure there will be a huge improvement after I port it.

So close to getting that Wemars just for sh and giggles. Just not sure...What was your break in?

  • @novicelumberjack

Nothing. No break in. Just run it. Get the more squared looking wemars. I think the more modern looking ones are cheaper build quality.

That tach is reading correctly from what I can “perceive”. It’s BOUND to bounce around some because the engine RPM is going to be bouncing around some in the cut as well. It’s impossible to have a consistent well, everything in the cut. We really aren entertained by this and we all like the EDUTAINMENT. Yes, combined words of entertainment and educated. !!!
