Strad, make sure to look at the salvage yards in Dubai. I’ve already seen salvage 812s popping up after the recent floods. Chances are if you could find a strut tower there, it wouldn’t be destroyed. Because it’s an aluminum part, it shouldn’t rust, but you could still double check corrosion.

@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 I said “shouldn’t” in the case that it isn’t pure aluminum. Even a small amount of alloying metal could lead to rust. But yes-you’re absolutely right. If worst comes to worst, and you can’t register the car because of the structural damage, put the new kit on it and make it pure, no bs track car. James, I worked in aerospace for a lot of years. We used a piece of equipment that a company called Direct Dimensions Inc both sells as well as offers services to produce an exact digital copy. The digital copy can be turned into a CAD file to have a part produced from what everyone now calls "Billet" aluminum, steel or laser 3D printing. Before I'd use a cast part, I'd get a part produced from a solid block of aluminum.

Just good luck passing inspection with that. Ontop of using that structure to mount the suspension, you could also modify suspension geometry like using cantilevers and longer control arms.

Here is what you do. You find another 812 hit in the rear and get all the parts you need and then sell the leftover parts. You should have an extra engine and lots of usable parts to make up the difference in parts. Send the dash and seatbelts to L and D solutions. They specialize in repairing deployed dashes and seatbelt repair after deployment. They are certified and stand behind their work. You can have all that stuff fixed for a fraction of the price. There is currently a 812 for sale on Global Auto Auctions stie with left front damage. You only need the right front so that would work for you and then you sell everything.

Many channels opt out to get into wrecked vehicles, repairing them and showing the possibility of owning crazy expensive car somewhat at the fraction of the cost - the ulgy truth that comes out is that many of these vehicles are poor candidates for projects like that. I feel like a fabricator would be able to fabricate all of those aluminum parts (aside from the cast aluminum piece) for like 1/8 the price, and the cast piece could easily be CNC machined, it might even be stronger than before.

I was going to comment this as well. Getting the dimensions shouldn’t be difficult considering he has the damaged passenger side part as well as the drivers side for reference. And there are tools that can be used to determine the exact composition of the material if needed. I don’t even think it would cost him $1,000 to have done.

As a salvage rebuilder i can tell u most of the shops first check on the availability of parts then start buying the cars in bulk. For most manufacturer they will sell you anything and everything and for high production numbered cars most of that stuff can be bought third party as well not to mention the high number of used parts on the market. Nobody is out there gluing dashboards for normal cars or hand repairing strut towers

@@PuffOfSmoke oh 100% also the effort, money, and time spent on this one car would be equal to rebuilding 20-30 normal cars. And when u realize there is no profit to be made it would make sense to stay miles away. Even as a youtuber i would have found experts to look at photos before purchasing and have an affordable way to source only then do u touch a project like this. And yes someone with 5-10 years of auction buying experience would have easily told him the level frame damage to expect through photos

@@PuffOfSmoke the problem with that is the youtube shouldnt have to cover loses if he could be doing a break even type of rebuild the youtube revenue can be pure profit. But yeah u can see how one or two cars like this can bankrupt a small to medium sized shop. He also spent 40k on a body kit and probably 60k if u include the wide tires/wheels and building costs associated with the wide body. I understand that he was trying to make it so the car could be finished and get a widebody kit smoothly but he took a big financial risk. Him saying he doesnt have 70k cash is a scary situation.
