Welfare Square Congress Tour

A group of U.S. House of Representatives visited Welfare Square of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 12 to better understand the Church's world-renowned welfare system.
See their reaction as they toured the Bishops' Storehouse, Bakery and Dairy and Deseret Industries thrift store.

I remember volunteering there to make blocks of cheese for distribution and was so impressed by how clean absolutely every thing was. So organized, too. It really impressed on me how serious feeding those who are without is taken.

We have received food and cleaning supplies from the welfare program. What a blessing it is to us. And it is such a blessing to serve others

I had the opportunity to tour Welfare Square about 17 years ago. That place is amazing. Not just in the work being done, but all the people working there were so happy, and you could tell they understood the importance of the work they were doing. In contrast, about 10 years later, I was working as an inventory auditor, and I was in a team that spent about a week doing an audit at a government FEMA warehouse. It was very frustrating because it was clear that the workers were generally pretty burnt out, and were constantly griping and complaining and trying to cut corners. I felt like the people at the government warehouse had long since lost track of the importance and purpose of their job, and frankly just didn't care anymore. The representative from New York's comment about how church organizations are much better prepared to do welfare projects than the government is absolutely true, because the people working for church welfare projects (of any denomination) have people working for them who actually are focused on their mission and care about helping others, whereas the government tends to attract and/or create disgruntled workers who just don't care. It is a classic example of the sheep getting watched over by hirelings instead of the good shepherd

I am a member of the church ,it makes me happy to see that over there this is hapening ,here in Spain its not the same att all ,so sad for so many people that I know that was in so much need and were not helped ,people who serve missions ,mothers ,old womans....I am very independent ,because that is something that I have learn from good people from this church ,but last year I did lost my job and need it help,I was turned with no help here,I have my testimony ,and never forget the needy ,right now I am blessed with a good job,but I will never forget who was there for me ,😅my true friends , I do believe that, when there is someone who loves those in need and does what she or him can ,there is a true disciple of Jesus Christ. ❤ Thank you for your services and example to us.

I’ve always felt the church does more good with my 10% tithing contribution than the government does with my 35% tax. I believe our governments can learn how to become more efficient for welfare services

pay close attention to the LDS Church- because you need to know what the interim government is going to look like when Christ makes his return to Earth at the beginning his millennium reign.
