*thumbnail* Magneto: "I need an adult." Charles: "I am an adult."

Magneto is always a case of irony because even if he succeeds in wiping out humanity. Mutants would just replace them, not surpass them.

Not entirely correct. Nearly all of the timelines with a *positive* outcome show mutants eventually building an ideal society after the extinction of mankind. Humans, ultimately, are pretty trash. Mutants are too, but enough of them possess heightened mental and emotional qualities for positive change to be brought about over a period of time. In any case, Magneto didn't want to end humans. He was going to create a bunch of Asteroid Ms, enough to house all the mutants willing to go with him, and leave to terraform Venus or Mars. The objective was to give mutants an Earth-like world to live on in peace, away from humanity's constant attempts to destroy them. The idea was separation, not eradication. The Earth's magnetic field would've returned to normal on its own within a week or so. All Xavier accomplished in hijacking Magneto's mind like that was ending the lives of almost half of all mutants. When he turned everything back on, Bastion's machines proceeded to carry out their mission with terrible precision. Magneto bought them time to seek a more permanent solution, and all Xavier could do was look at things in the moment. His lack of foresight brought an end not only to Magneto's dream, but to his own as well. Now mutantkind is doomed.
