I'm an old old lady. I love watching these videos after a long day. I'm not sure why they're so relaxing. I was born and raised up by Yellowstone Park here in the United States, I prefer living outside. We used to make snow forts and camped out for the weekends all the time. I sure do miss it but I know realistically I'm far too old to be doing all that work now. So I just let you do it and I watch now. Thank you so much I appreciate these videos more than you will ever know.

Watching the firewood chapter, I'm reminded of an old self-sufficiency saying. It goes "firewood warms you up three times- once when you gather it, once when you break it up into fire sized pieces, and once when you burn it". Looks like AoTN got all three... and needed them!

This reminds me of my teens when we used to build forts. The best one was in a ravine near where they were building a new subdivision. We were able to appropriate better materials during the night after everyone has quit work for the day from the building site.

You are very strong! I like watching your videos, especially because . I'm often in Scandinavia and Finland on business, as a bus driver on long-distance trips. I, too, have often spent time in lonely little log cabins, alone or as a couple in the latitudes. If you can do a bit of manual work and know how to fish or hunt, you can get along very well. And so I find your extreme videos so good. Keep it up and show everyone what is possible and how beautiful the north is in all seasons. Harry greets you from the north of Germany

Haven’t read the other comments to see what others have said… and I’m not trying to sound like a… let’s say “jerk”… but I really think you should move your fireplace away from your exit and also build a stone wall and chimney with clay to prevent your shelter from burning down on top of you. … this is only the second video of yours I’ve watched… so far… makes me a little jealous to say the least… have fun… be safe

The log he's cutting his firewood on has a cushioning effect, cause it's not touching the ground and therefor giving in. Thats why it takes so long, to cut his wood, not the carving of the axes blade.

Be nice to know the temps inside and out! And a quick look at how cold that water was at the end💪. Looked cosy! Saw a vid the other day when someone showed the diff being next to a fire made even in -25c....think was around 10 or so C near the fire so you can survive as long as you set an alarm every 3hrs...(ofc would take you a few hrs of log prep though n getting the fire right).

Return to another previously constructed shelter. Nice! If you’re going to build them, you might as well use them. Did the fire 🔥 keep you warm all night? I’ve been in some cold water. Lake Superior can be dang cold 🥶even in the summer. I’ve never done an ice lake dip like that, but I would imagine that the hard part is getting in. Once your in, it’s probably not too bad, as long as you don’t stay in too long. Another good video. Thank you for the effort.

I enjoyed the video, but have a couple of questions: 1)I'm surprised your hut wasn't uninhabitable because of the smoke from the fire. 2) Why did you do the polar plunge at the end? I'm guessing it was kind of a mystical experience where you were testing yourself/ in tune with nature? 3) How long did you stay in the water? I'm thinking you have about 60 seconds before you're risking frostbite and/or your life?
