Easy tip for dealing with goatheads, leave them in the tire and let the trail break off the heads of them instead of picking them out. What happens is the thorn will stay in and plug the hole as opposed to pulling them out and creating a small hole. It is a pretty insignificant hole really but on a ride it can add up over time to losing more sealant than you should. We have them everywhere here so without tubeless you really can't ride for long without a flat..

I live in Phoenix and have ridden/ride many of these trails. Given that bikers are supposed to yield to hikers on these trails, I always say 'thank you' to the hikers who step aside for me. I think it helps with the hiker-biker relations your are talking about.

You said it better than I was going to. As a New Mexico rider, always say thank you. Even when climbing and justifiably have the right of way, and hikers clear the way respectfully. As they did.

I ride White Tanks Regional Park regularly. ya were basically in my back yard. Always heard stories of minimal riders up and around Goat Camp. Most say they wouldn't again. Good on you brother

You are a little crazy to ride that solo. Most of the locals out in AZ will tell you that trail doesn’t get ridden much at all because it’s so rugged. Glad you made it safely all the way down.

Amazing!! I was out here two years ago to visit family that lives just a few miles from White Tanks. I really thought hard about riding GC but ultimately decided against in favor of some other trail systems. We did hike some trails in WT. Anyway, there are very few videos out there of this trail so it's really great to see a new one & capture how difficult it is.

Well done. Goat is gnarly. I typically do Mesquite as an out and back. It's great to see these trails get noticed. As a local trail advocate I seriously appreciate the positive hiker interactions. Especially during the first and last few miles. Those trails get a lot of foot traffic.

It was a fun one!

Those features are called the "spiral staircase" (the first big feature you almost made it down) and the other one you walked is called "jackhammer". It's a legendary trail and an old one, just not used much. If you like more flow try going down willow and mesquite trails from the top, still janky, but fast.

This is some serious off-roading!

It's funny you mention riding on stuff like that back in the 90's. Back in the 90's I remember riding on stuff like that on my GT RTS. I loved that bike but I ended up breaking the frame riding at Big Bear, California. I live a few miles from Cal State San Bernardino and up behind the school there's a huge wash area at the base of part of the San Bernardino mountains loaded with fire access roads, single track, tech downhill trails and stuff. It extends for miles to the East and West.

White tanks my local stomping grounds! Back around the early 2000s there was a group from MTBR that used to go out and ride goat camp on much older geometry bikes. I've never rode it especially by myself always seemed way too chunky but Brian made it look decent. I was lucky enough to get my clavicle club membership at the White Tanks. 🦴☠️

Hiked out there 3 times, so far; Mesquite, Wilson and Ford Canyon (beautiful hike) loops. Always wondered what Goat looked like. Brian does make it look 'easy' 😁. I'll have to stick to the lower trails on the 29er Trail bike 🙃. Surprised he did get any F-35 action overhead.

11:44 I find I can’t really get flow-state going with headphones in. The natural ambient noise is part of the overall sensory picture I need to really focus on riding. Synesthesia is real, and all sensory inputs are important. Just listen to how crunchy the terrain is, and you get a sense of how important sounds are in reading the environment

Ride a hardtail for a few months and you'll see the more forgiving line much quicker. Monster trucking over the tough rocks takes a lot more energy than people realise. It's always worth saving energy when you can on a ride.

BK, One last batshit crazy thought on this ride and the only thing missing to clean up the rest of the ride set up, Ibis partnering with Pinion gearbox or imagine your bike with a sealed transmission with the weight directly at BB no der strikes or chain slap just buttery smooth mixed wheel ripping. I told ya batshit crazy😂🤷‍♂️and one more great climbing in mixed wheel which people may not know is different and usually sacrifices something for descending but great bikes like the Ripmo handle it well or just smart geo.

I've ridden GC twice 10+ years ago. Both times were on small travel bikes 100/80 and a 100/100 and both 26ers. Trail is no joke but I'm at the stage I say I did it, but not interested in doing it again. 😂

It's been solid for me! Heavier for sure, definitely not getting up the tricky tech stuff as much, but I love the down hill confidence. I do Assegai front and rear

gnarly maximus. but cool as well. Not sure if i wanna hit it or not. lol. I went otb 3-4x on last summers trip. but it is fun and gnarly when youre in it. lol.

Wow! Very impressive ride. I just moved to the area, close to the white tanks, and climbing Mesquite and Down Goat is on my To Do list with a very aspirational goal of cleaning mesquite on the way up and Goat Camp on the way down. I've hiked a lot of Goat camp at this point and I was glad to see you walk a few sections that have me puzzled. I need to build fitness and technique, but I can do it. Riding up and down mesquite is pretty fun. There are a lot of hikers when you're coming down mesquite, (It'd be amazing with a clear trail) But I've found the hikers here in AZ to be super kind and share the trail. I've had many cheer me on as I go over rocks. Here's a question I have for you? Do you think the HD6 was the optimal bike for that loop? or would you have rathered something shorter travel? There aren't a lot of high speed areas, which makes me wonder if shorter travel or mid travel could be the ticket. Forbidden Druid? Stumpy evo? etc? If you lived close to there, Would you choose that bike?

I think the HD6 was a great bike for all of the rides I did in Arizona this time around! I feel a bit slower and less skilled on the tough techy climb stuff, but the downhill is great!

Is this the same Goat Camp at the White Tanks? I did a 50 mile trail race out there and you go through that section a couple times. That section is crazy to ride down.

What’s your suggestion when dealing with snakes and if you were bit while out there deep in the trail? I understand wait it out and then move along if not bit. I was on a trail yesterday in So Cal and this huge rattlesnake just started slithering across the trail as I’m walking my bike up this steep section. Damn near put the fear of God in me. 😅😅

Hey, I was taken in by LMNT, largely because of channels like this, but upon looking into the literature and reviews about it-the science LMNT relies on seems to be mostly nonsense that the found just came up with? I could be wrong, but my understanding is that jsut about no one who eats a normal diet and isn’t a marathon runner, needs more salt in their diet, especially not the amount in LMNT? But some say it just “works for them” which is fair enough.
