Still diggin' this series! I love how the developers gave the shout-out to the more obscure Castlevania ports (and Castlevania-adjacent games) with the Toy Room; shows they really did their homework.

Wait till y'all learn that getting each cards adds to the item collection percentage, even if they don't get used...

I first saw a speed runner play this game and while neat the first time, it’s EXTREMELY refreshing for you to be 100%ing this game. Also, Algorithm!

I like the Bible + Card, it's good a choice to deal with a lot the monsters in the castle. It's fast and can stun lock most so you can finish with the whip. Not to mention all flying debris that comes flying your way. Later, when you heart max is over 200, you could swap over to the Rosary + Card, but you'll likely need the Heart Discount to make it practical, but when used, it can SHRED bosses!

Toy Room heh nice to see a stage from Castlevania Chronicles (Castlevania X38000) to be recreated in here. :)

Dang if that's not one big Frankenstein's Monster though, wow!

If it's not too annoying, I'd love to see you try every weapon upgrade card at least once during the playthrough. I like seeing the upgrades :) Assuming you haven't already finished playing through the game 😆

THIS GAME IS *SO COOL~*

Watching this playthrough is trippy, because my introduction to this game was when The Almighty Algorithm (TM) decided that I really needed to see WR 100% speedruns of it. I guess it was right, because I watched three or four of them. Unfortunately, that's now my entire frame of reference for this sucker, so I'm sitting here screaming at poor Jerd for 100%-ing it... like, less efficiently than I know it can be done.

1:45 Actually, since Dr. Frankenstein created the creature technically that would make it his son which would mean that it's last name would also be Frankenstein. Also I heard somewhere that he named the creature Prometheus, so it's name would be Prometheus Frankenstein. O-O

The deeper boss death wail for big Frank is a nice touch.

Ah, I see you also encountered the glitch. Yeah, after the 2nd boot up it does the screen zoom on item get for everyone. Not sure why, but it does.

The creature has a flamethrower arm! 😮

One thing to consider - Does the hit-spam from the fire whip cause the healing card to trigger constantly? Could be a good way to get healing in an emergency.

It does not. The exact wording says you get health back for every few successful whip strikes. The hit-spam does a lot of chip damage, but it all comes from the same one whip strike. That's the same reason it doesn't count hitting multiple enemies. It only counts how many times you've hit the whip button and connected with something. The final whip is best for this. It does little damage, but it's the fastest whip in the game. I though it was useless and basically just a worse fire whip, but it came in clutch for some of the final bosses for the 15% or less achievement since it pairs well with the healing card. (12% is the mandatory progression items, so you can only have 3 total upgrades between cards, hearts up, and life up)

I wonder if jared is ever going to realize that different weapons have different attack arcs for a reason. Dude can make the medusa/fleaman/gargoyle areas so much easier if he used the axe for once.

Hall of toys has the best music

The Hall of Toys music is straight from Castlevania X68000 known as Tower of Dolls. Its a great but frustrating game

I feel like the ice whip would be better against smaller enemies that are just outside of the range of being one-shot by the normal whip, while the fire whip would still be better against larger enemies with tons of HP. Also, the wall and ground graphics in the toy room look like treasure chests.

I watch for the jokes and personality jared lol and no shame getting lost in a metroidvania game, its all apart of the journey

That dash spot was at the height of the slide (dash?) strange you can buy a dash card way before unlocking a second dash form..

How has this game not crashed for you yet, Jared? It's crashed for me twice, once while jumping around in the water (saying it couldn't load a water_step obj) and once while fire-whipping a ton of enemies...

Having just finished my own playthrough of this game and watched JupiterClimb's first run, I can safely say that both the double jump and the dash powers this game offers were not what I originally expected them to look or behave like, for better or worse. There are "easy" and "hard" ways to get certain life or heart max ups like those Jared passed by in this video (Mega Man X players know one of these "hard" skill tricks as "Iceless," for example), but I will give a slight spoiler for a powerup: ... ... Whether the in-game description text tells you or not, for dashing you can either hold the button or you can retrigger it. Do with this info what you will.

I believe when you get the dash skill, and slide it tells you can hold down the button to keep going (until you get hit anyway)

@@callak_9974 I myself was holding down the button to dash and needed ReVamped speedrunner Spriventube to remind me that the retrigger was not only a thing but useful and almost required to get a particularly annoying max up.
