what's rent prices like in Beijing as opposed to home mate
That's a really nice little apt with all the necessary modern conveniences. I've been told that heated floors are the best type of heating. No need for noisy, inefficient, and allergy producing heated air systems. The heat rises naturally and silently from the floor, so you no longer have to deal with a warm upper body and freezing feet.
@willarddu

Yes. Almost all new apartments in the North of China use heated floors. It's really efficient. To be honest, when I am at home, I still feel hot even wearing T-shirt. Because it's supplied by the government, we can't adjust it based on the temperature. But we can control the flowrate of the heated liquid. I believe this heating system is constructed by the owner of this apartment, so Blondie can adjust it.

I remember the first time when I have my tiny room in Europe, as a Chinese. When I arrive that beautiful old town Leiden, I was immediately in love with it. It’s very fun to see you so excited in Beijing old center, just like me in Europe. That’s what they say about traveling: Traveling is to leave a place that you are tired of to somewhere that others are tired of. Or I can also say: traveling is to go to somewhere where you are excited to be from somewhere where others are excited to be.

@@djdad2482 Yes DJ, these are great stuff, and once Amy gets over the idea of dismal parts or enthrals they are intriguing. And century eggs; it's just the name. Goes well with pickled ginger which masks the ammoniac odour. Hope she has tried these, like you have. Even more exotic (and I think rare) is camel's hoofs. This one takes even more courage though I don't recommend it (bcoz camels are rarer). Kudos DJ. Bravo Amy.
Absolutely a warm and cozy home. Hope you'll discover more interesting things about Beijing's Hutong life. I've heard that one of the inconveniences to live in Hutong is to use public toilet in the winter night. Wonderful to know that you have a private toilet. You can pour a big bottle of bleach into the drain and don't use it for about 10 hours, the smell will disappear. I learnt this trick from others and it works. Good luck!

Try pouring some vinegar and then hot water into all of the sewer/sink. Also, sometimes the smell is because their is no water in the slightly U shaped pipeline. Try keep them wet by pouring water into all of them, which sometimes can block the smell from other sewage feeding back up from your sink.

Me too too. And Amy emphasised the stone rubbing where it showed that bbq was done 2,000 BC. This looks like a ubiquitous street food found in several parts of China and South East Asia. Some calls this SATAY.
It exudes warmth and exclusivity no high-rise apartment can compare with. Congratulations!

I really really miss Hutong, I was born in Dongsi in Dongcheng District in Beijing, where I grew up in was a small house in a narrow Hutong. I would say young people couldn't survive there today but all my good memories are from there in my Hutong, I can't forget the time that I went to the nearby parks in all four seasons with my parents, or together with my friends we just rode bikes through those Hutongs to the famous Sanlian bookstore. The old Beijing has faded away, replaced by a modern new big city, only your video today has brought me back to old Dongsi again from Hobart.
Congrats. It's a lovely apartment, and the neighborhood seems fun.
Wow absolutely love it!! Hope to move there one day too
This little flat looks super cozy! You've just decorated it like those fancy Airbnbs and it's been my dream to have my future little home furnished like this! Hope I can do it as well as you did! Great job Amy!!!
The apartment looks real nice ☺️ how lucky to have the price reduced too! It was meant for you! I live in Hangzhou and paid 3250 for a similar apartment to yours when I first moved here...so when you said the original price of 7800, I screamed! 🤣 Enjoy your new home xx

I was higher up in an apartment myself, but I was told that if I ever had smells wafting up from the plumbing in the bathroom to get a drain cover for when you're not using the shower. You can also sometimes easily make a loop in the drainage hose under your bathroom sink and that creates a water pocket to block smells from drifting up. Your home is beautiful! I hope you are very happy there!
just in case some of you think hutong or siheyuan is another name of slum area, in fact the property prices of sihuyuan are extremely expensive, some of them cost many (30+) million USD. btw this loft hutong is just like a gem in a stone, gald you found it.
