تعد مكتبة الملك فهد الوطنية نموذجاً للتلاحم بين القيادة والشعب الذين أرادوا التعبير عن حبهم وإخلاصهم لمليكهم الملك فهد بن عبدالعزيز رحمه الله بمناسبة توليه الحكم، فهي في أصلها عبارة عن معلم تذكاري شيد على نفقة المواطنين؛ ليكون تحفة معمارية بالتعاون مع أمانة مدينة الرياض التي قدمت الأرض والإشراف الفني والمعماري؛ والإداري، وقد صمم المبنى ليكون مكتبة عامة، ثم حولت إلى مكتبة وطنية للمملكة العربية السعودية بناء على اقتراح خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز أثناء إمارته لمدينة الرياض والذي كانت له اليد الطولى في إنشاء المكتبة وتجهيزها، حيث كان رعاه الله رئيس اللجنة الاستشارية في مرحلة الإنشاء، فكسبت البلاد مكتبة وطنية بعد طول انتظار.
King Fahad National Library reflects the relationship between the leadership and the public who wanted to express their gratitude and love to their king at the day of his appointment. It was originally a memorial landmark built at the expense of citizens in collaboration with Riyadh Municipality who done the land and the technical , architectural and administrative supervision. The building was designed to work as a public library , then changed to national library for Saudi Arabia as suggested by King Selman bin Abdul-Aziz, when he was the Governor of Riyadh, who did his best to support the library while he was the chairman of the advisory committee at the stage of establishment, so the country gained a national library after a long period of delay.
