    Man, I'm 44 and can so relate to it all. If I don't have my kids it's me and my records and the occasional hang with friends if by chance everybodys schedules matches. But I'm not sad, it's totally fine with me since that's how life rolls, we all go our own ways with work and moving and whatnot. But with that said, for me it all started with Twisted Sister and Stay Hungry back in 84, 7 years old. Now all these years later still banging my head.

    I was going to mention that record in the beginning of this video! Stay Hungry and 1984 by Van Halen were big albums for me when I was in like 5th grade but the Maiden and Metallica ones were the game changers for me .

    @@littlepunkpeople for me the real game changers were Reign in Blood and Ride the Lightning. A class friend of mine dubbed them to cassette for me, and I couldn't believe there was music this fast and heavy. Listened mainly to Stay Hungry and Motley Crue/Kiss as a kid. But hearing Slayer the first time was like that "Aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!" angel choir moment for me when I was 10.

    Exactly the same age as you, Justin. Turning 46 in September. The albums that got me into real metal were Maiden's "Seventh Son..." and Metallica's "...Puppets". This was when around the time I started high school in September 1989. Before that it was Aerosmith and Guns N' Roses, but after I heard thrash and punk, I couldn't like those type of bands as much. Glam metal was at it's peak, but that type of stuff didn't speak to me. I didn't like the idea of dressing up to go on stage. AC/DC's Razor's Edge came out, and that was great, too. When Nirvana and grunge broke big in autumn 1991, there was a split in the metal community between those that liked the Seattle bands and those that hated them. Remember that?

  • @littlepunkpeople

    @littlepunkpeople

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yep I remember that! I honestly loved the grunge bands as well and I’ll be covering some of that in future episodes. Especially bands like AIC. And yeah Seventh Son is an absolute masterpiece. I actually did like some of the hair bands too lol and I’ll cover some of that but I was always aware of its silliness haha. But I’ll mostly be talking about the better stuff that you mentioned. Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼

    @@littlepunkpeople Alice In Chains' "Facelift " was the first album I ever bought, in October 1991, followed closely by Anthrax "Persistence Of Time". It was in December that I used a gift card to buy Nirvana "Nevermind" at The Wherehouse, a now defunct record store chain. I'd heard my friend's copy of it but couldn't wait to get my own. I actually listened to it recently on my stereo and it still works and sounds great!
