That Charm/Frighten resistance on Monks is a pain in Strahd's a$$. Back in the day taking a Palladin into Barovia was an almost guaranteed PC death. Even farther back I believe it was mages that were the most screwed.

For my party, kill your monk was strahd fortelling his own death. Our warforged monk 1v1'd him in his castle after being warforgenapped while the rest of the party tried to catch up and dealt the killing blow right when the paladin got there with the sunlight sword. He should have tried harder than a dagger lol!

Yeah, my whole party is neutral/ good. We got in a consensus that there's no one in barovia worthy of salvation. Right now the DM is panicking because he leaned too much to the grim dark side that even the lawfull good paladin thinks that is an act of mercy to purify the whole of barovia with fire.

I wish you guys could see the face that he did when we decided to kill the burgomaster, lady Fiona, all their families and put the priest on charge of the city, just to discover that stradht might have a plot to kill the priest after the coffin shop encounter and leave the city leaderless. Welp, he already "created" a shortage os alchemical fire on vallaki, should've kept my wits to myself when I voiced my thoughts of suicide bombing with 15 alchemical fires on my bag

@@AgentSteffi so my main annoyance, and don't get me wrong I love the monk class, is the stunning strike feature. Use a ki point when you hit a creature and they have to pass a Con save to not be stunned until the end of the monk's next turn. Factor in the Monk's flurry of blows and multi-attacks then all it takes is one failed save for your boss to get beat down in an embarrassingly small amount of time. I love the class and I dont have any malevolent feelings towards it but I do feel like a sitcom arch nemesis when it comes to dealing with the monk Immunity to poison damage and being able to end certain status effects at will is also annoying

@@AgentSteffi some other things to consider, very few things in the game are immune to being stunned. So unless you homebrew an immunity, your best bet proficiency in con saves Also, monks become proficient in all saves at a certain level

@@AgentSteffi If you have a monk with a base of 16 dex and they dump two of their score increases into dex, give them a staff of striking and watch as they constantly beat the ever living shit out of everything short of a tarasque. Oh and if the manage to avoid rolling a 1 after burning all the staffs charges, they can and will dump all those charges into oneshotting the mini boss of the encounter

I have watched this so many times. the artist put so much love and detail into this. it tells a really tragic story of what feels like a very personal strahd game. thank you so much for sharing. 11/7

"For all of time" is not a reference to Strahd being immortal. The campaign is a time loop. He only needs to practice once every few millenia, and he'll have had eons of practice by now.

The insanity and suffering bit is so on point XD this was the first campaign I ever played, and my happy go-lucky just wanted to see the world tabaxi ended it having died twice, lost her best friend, turned into a werewolf, and went insane.

I'm running curse of Strahd and they are in the Post Strahd. Like, the window where he is dead before he comes back. I am Excited to have him return. Last time they saw him they had pissed him off so he had Rahadin write a passive aggressive ransom note disguised a wedding invitation. They immediately picked up on the fact that the note was written by a Rahadin was being dictated to by a very angry man. The ransom separated the party by necessity, but they were still 2v1 against each of the brides (excluding Escher because he was caught being a double agent) and the Abbot. The monk fell off the stairs and Strahd was mauled to death by a hell hound... when the Bard and his pet... levitated up the central column of the stairs, on an animated church pew. It was a scene.

My group I started has a merfolk from Barovia, at first I was annoyed having to fit his family in the valley, but then I realized…literally everyone he’s ever known lives here!

This song is so accurate. The players in the CoS game I’m running sacrificed the paladin in the party by session 3. Now the druid is being manipulated by strahd to help his ends, in exchange they will be his successor and he’s starting to make all the party members think the are special and is already starting make them plot against each other. All it took was him taking them skeet shooting and the seeds were planted lol.

The paladin was the one good guy (one must die in the death house and well you know what happened) So during the dinner with strahd they were able to convince him to do skeet shooting. So they went to one of the towers of ravenloft and he had this ballista dmg cross bow. They drank wine they stole from wizard of wines and shot strahd zombies (since he hates the zombies and tortures them for fun). He took the opportunity to “befriend” them. Harder to believe it when your best bud strahd who took you skeet shooting betrays you for his own fun and/or means. It’s harder to run CoS for an evil party but they seem to be having fun so it’s all good so far.

Monks are either very underwhelming or absolutely game breaking. A single successful stunning strike can change a TPK into a cakewalk.

haha, our first monk ditched the game about a month in; we say the mist got him. then when our party left, my pc got stuck because they belonged to the land after having been resurrected there (just an excuse because i wanted to roll a new pc.) new pc turned out to be a way of mercy monk/college of spirit bard and feels out of place for not being with the group from the beginning. based on this seems like he was lucky........

Curse of Strahd is currently being my first time playing DnD, and I'm very excited for it, as I finished my Session 0 and will be introduced to the rest of the party at Vallaki, since I'm joining late. I went and picked a Halfling Oath of Glory Paladin, faith of The Morning Lord (not sure if that'll be a good or bad thing), made her an outsider with hot-blood and a foul mouth, full of ambition, something to balance out the other depressed PCs, especially since they don't have a healer too. My best moment so far is when fighting some evil druid and his barbarian bodyguards, getting caught in a lightning AoE by an ally then hit by a greataxe for 1/3rd of my max HP, one hit away from death, then I channel my rage into a Nat20 Divine Hammer Smite right into the enemy barbarian's balls. That shit did half his max HP while making sure he's ready for No Nut November.

My main D&D group played weekly for two years in a Curse of Strahd campaign and this just brought back so many memories. My DM admitted to changing a bunch of stuff in the story to have the option to have positive outcomes if we were clever enough to find them, and our party was the definition of neutral good so we did. We turned Vallaki into a representative democracy, the abbott is dead and his creations are living off of his sold riches (which we didn't take a cent of) and their own potion productions, Izek is reformed and running an orphanage with Ireena, who got to meet with the soul of Sergei one last time, and Strahd is permanently dead. We played it incredibly seriously the whole way through, debating on the rights of werewolves and how best to honor the dead, and the democratic revolution of Vallaki took three whole sessions of political debates and rousing speeches. Two party members accidentally released eldritch evils from the amber temple along the way, but that's neither here nor there 😇

Awesome outcome! I think your DM made the right move for your group (and in general in my opinion), I'm so happy your CoS story ended with lots of high notes :)
