I first saw a 60 class garratt at Thirlmere over 50 years ago and I was just in awe of it. I never thought I would see one restored and running. I took my 80 yr old father to Thirlmere to see it when it first started running again in 2011. I blame him for my steam fascination. Sad to hear about the steam association in the ACT going under, but great news to see it is now permanently housed at Thirlmere. It must be time for another long drive.

Great news! It's good the engine was saved when ACT ARHS went under but even better the team has passed it on to the state to look after long term. 👍

With only 4 A.D. 60 class Garrett loco's surviving - we need to get another one running again & it'd be great to see 6042 out from Forbes restored or preserved better than it currently is "if" at all possible due to possible rust issues as it was steamed into place but can't be retrieved out of there unless someone can help with the costs involved to move it to safer grounds , so sad 😞 to see it now ; 6040 might be the next option perhaps????

6040 probably would be the better option as its a Light Type and is nearer to original condition. Boiler is cactus in 6040 too.

Finally my favourite locomotive other than 3801 is owned by the rail museum

Why don't you try and get 6042 from the paddock at Forbes. A powerful loco going to waste. The people who say they own it don't give a stuff about its condition 😵‍💫😵‍💫

As per usual, no truth telling in this story. I say that, because Alex Claassens was in amongst it. Dumb loco driver who sold out parts of the RTBU.
