Welcome Back Clan Line! The '50th Anniversary Pullman' - 27/04/24

In late April, SR Merchant Navy No. 35028 'Clan Line' would return to the main line following an intermediate overhaul, undertaken by Leaky Finders in Devon. The loco's first revenue earning trip since July 2022 would take place on Saturday 27th April, which would also mark a very important anniversary. It was on this day 50 years previously, in 1974, that the loco hauled its first main line railtour in preservation, running from Basingstoke to Westbury and return.
In a joint venture between Belmond and UK Railtours, the 'Clan Line 50th Anniversary Pullman' would take the Merchant Navy on a run from London Victoria to Bath Spa, travelling via Woking and Salisbury. Both the outward and return journeys would include fast line running between Woking and Basingstoke, and in addition, 35028 would take the 12 coach train unassisted!
We begin with the outward leg, and the Pacific is seen in fine form as it thunders past Potbridge, between Winchfield and Hook. Several hours later, and the weather has turned pretty dismal, as 35028 speeds through Winchfield Station, heading the return journey back to London.

A welcome return to the main line for 35028 'Clan Line'!
