Weird Stuff in An Abandoned Mine

This neat mine surprised us with quite a bit. I never expected to find a vehicle chassis inside of a mine, but I suppose I've seen weirder things... They were most likely using the vehicle engine for either an electric generator or for a compressor.
While this small mine is relatively easy to access, it seems to have been mostly untouched by collectors and vandals. This site was littered with evidence of work having been done in the 1970's. There was an interesting mix of old and new. Originally, the mine dates back to the late 1800s, but I presume most of the work was done in the 1910s or 1920s. Sadly, some of the workings are now blocked by a dangerous section of bad ground. We attempted to find a route around this collapse, but to no avail.

@8:09 10-35: October 1935 (10-35 date manufactured), Texaco Crater Compound NO.1. Boxes of that era will generally display the manufacturing date on the bottom of the boxes to track shelf life of the product. This date aligns with Dan 38, Dan 39. Thank you for another great explore with superb video detail.
Saw TVR’s video. Good to see your perspective as well. Engine and chassis are Buick. My guess is 1925. Overhead valve inline 6 from that time really narrows down the choices.
That Whiskey bottle you found was wrapped in wicker , an old way of protecting the bottle as well as helping it survive being dragged around in backpacks, bags etc & not breaking the glass bottle . That “ Spring looking thing “ with the gear attached to it was the inner workings of an old hand wound alarm clock of some sort more than likely . Lots of cool old timbering in there in this one !! Thanks for sharing , I watch Justin’s TVR episodes mostly , but you do a pretty decent job with documenting these as well .😎👍

8:06 Texaco Crater Compound: A heavy black viscous tar like lubricant for open gear sets and wire ropes. The 1920's era Eli Big Wheel I ran as a teenager in the 60's had big open gears, rotated the Ferris Wheel with wire ropes. Part of my job (daily maintenance routine) was to get a big dollop of crater compound on a stick, and feed it into the spinning gears, and onto the cables...all OHSA approved work for a 14 year old in 1963 LOL (Joking...there was no OHSA and if there had been they woulda had a cow)

Prehaps the engine was the compressor pump, being driven by some other power source. Likely wouldn't put out super high PSI, but enough for some use.

Looks like the exhaust coming out the back. Probably ran all the way outside. It's about 8' long and cut. The pipe in front I believe was for water. Looks like they were using it to pump water to keep the engine cool. 🤔
It was a hoist, just cut the axel housing and add the wheel bering back on. Weld the drum on the axel and you can lift and lower. It was fastened down to obviously keep it from dragging itself down the tunnel.

It wasn’t a hoist, there was no winze or shaft nearby. Likely driving a compressor. Thanks for watching!

The box at 8:08 is from October 1935. That's the date code on the left. Almost all boxes are dated.

Others may have already mentioned this but Safeway was a chain of supermarkets in the UK. Whether they opened up stores in the US I’m not sure

They were in Arizona for a long time. 1950’s and onward. I haven’t been back for sometime so, I do not know if they are still in business.

Olympic beer is or was out of Olympic washington. They were purchased by someone else who shut them down the beer was good

Usually 6-7 ft.

In the UK this isnt unusual. There are a few mines/quarries that have old car/truck engines, admittedly on the outside of the mine not inside. Some mines were ran on rather shoestring budgets so I suppose you had to make do with what you could!
In1922-23 FORD made Flathead 6 then Dodge in the 50's-60's
