To answer your question about the salted watermelon, salt draws the moisture inside the melon to the surface, giving it a sweeter taste when you bite down. As for the salt, well, sweet n' salty is a very popular flavor combo.

More Japanese products. But sadly, not much to translate this time. Just leaving a fun tidbit. 7:20 - There is no native Japanese word for Banana, instead the Japanese use Katakana for it, which is the characters used to (normally, but not always) represent non-Japanese words. Licorice doesn't have flavors. Licorice IS a flavor. What people call red licorice (like Red Twizzlers or Red Vines) is not licorice. Licorice candy is anything flavored with licorce. It is usualy paired with black colors, but can be any color that the confectioner wants to add. Licorice is a flavor extracted from the licorice (or liquorice) plant, and is usually quite intense and (IMO) very harsh and somewhat bitter.

One of the things I love most about the Japanese language is that there's literally only one way to pronounce each character. Unlike in English where we have silent letters, letters that can be a hard or soft sound depending on what surrounds it, etc. If you see a Japanese word that says "ta" then it can only be pronounced "tah." If you see "ko" then it's "koh." When you see a Japanese word spelled out phonetically, it's actually likely to be easier to pronounce than an English word of the same length. xD

Pretty true for the most part. Especially when compared to English or like any other Germanic language. Though Japanese does have its occasional oddities, like the lack of a proper distinction between "R" and "L" sounds, diphthongs and omitted vowels, etc.

You seem to be forgetting that Japanese has at least 3 different alphabets, meaning there are multiple ways to write each sound, and it's (as far as I've seen) fairly common for words to mix alphabets (like using both hiragana and katakana together). I'm currently in the process of studying Japanese and am finding this _infuriatingly_ confusing.

You wouldn't get upset at French/Spanish speaker for rolling their Rs while speaking English just because that isn't how native English speakers pronounce it themselves. But for some reason Weeaboos act like it's a war crime when someone pronounces Ryu with an English R sound instead of the Japanese in-between L/R sound. If the person is legitimately accidentally completely changing a word due to their pronunciation, then go ahead and correct them. If not, then it doesn't matter. Half of your ability to taste comes from you ability to smell. This is why certain sodas gave that feeling of smelling in the back of your throat. As obviously your nasal passages are connected to it.

I've never tried Ramune but it seems like an interesting beverage!! As with most things there's always some weird flavors out there for the bold and daring. I don't know if you've tried Jones Soda Peebs but they have this Turkey and Gravy flavor. I just looked it up and I guess they're bringing it back this year. Ugh Smoked Salmon Patte, Broccoli Casserole, Peas, Corn on the Cob, Dinner Roll, Sweet Potatoes and Fruit Cake are some of the other less appealing ones I see here. You know what Peebs, I think we're gonna need you to do a video on some of these Jones Soda flavors.

Mune is pronounced like Mew'n, close to moon. The Mune'eh sound is a misconception that comes from the Japanese accent as they wouldn't end a word with the Na sound. So saying things like "coffee house" even become Coffee'a House'oo but that's not what we say. It seems to be brought over from words that are mostly or maybe exclusively from Japan as we seek the pronunciation from a native Japanese speaker. I learned this when looking up why people were calling the sword "Masamune" masamoon'e

It may not be the one of the weirdest foods that you could try, but I do have a suggestion. I have done a vat 19 challenge where I tried different items that increased in heat intensity. (By the way I cannot handle heat so that was fun.) What you could do is start with a low scoville item and move up to the cinnamon ghost pepper gumboils, and then end it with the worlds hottest chocolate bar. I can 100% confirm to you that none of the items taste nasty, but as for spicy ... have fun if you choose to go through with this challenge suggestion Peebs.

Never seen much in the form of ramune here outside of Chinese cash and carry shops, as well as what's occasionally stocked in HMV (Though the prices in there leave a lot to be desired, same with any of the import sweets, have seen them stock that cola one at least). Last one I had from an import shop was one with a Pocket Monsters 2019/Pokémon Journeys design. Was fruity, couldn't tell if it was apple or melon.

Y'know, me and my family put salt on our watermelon all the time when I was a kid. I never questioned it back then, but now that it's been called out it does seem a little odd. I will say the mix of salty and sweet does something for me. I imagine it's like why people enjoy saltwater taffy or salted caramel.
