Weird and Wacky Rail Vehicles at the Gwili Railway's Rail Oddities Gala Chasing Dinosaurs Episode 13

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hello everyone,
Ages ago Lawrie got invited to be part of the Gwili Railway's Gala, to which, obviously, he went yes.
So enjoy the video of Lawrie having a look round the event - and just how many things can he get a ride on?
If you want more information on the Gwili Railway and other dates that they operate, their website is here: gwili-railway.co.uk/
If you think you'd like to get involved with the railway and volunteer, have a look here: gwili-railway.co.uk/become-a-...
A video featuring, and edited by Lawrie.

Funnily enough, right as I got to the end of the video where Lawrie was in disbelief that it had finally stopped raining, outside my home it started pouring down with ferocious winds.

Great to see the Inglenook Sidings Puzzle setup there. My layout is based on the same thing in HO scale for 40 foot freight cars and an end-cab switcher circa 1962. And I always enjoy seeing railroad "oddities." Cheers from Wisconsin!

I believe they do own the track bed North as far as Llanpumpsaint, just before the Pencader tunnel. However there are several bridges that would need to be repaired or replaced to re open the section. There have also been a number of feasibility studies done over the years to re open the line between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth, but while feasible they all struggle with how to best handle the Gwili Railway section of the route.

Very good show, I liked the cab ride on the 13XX (which is a bit of an oddity in itself with its two whistles, very much a GWR thing), but I liked the rail oddities as well. The lo-rail Land Rover was pretty cool, I recall a Network Rail training film called "Setting New Standards" (made by SPA Films in the early 2000s) which showed the whole process of getting the vehicle onto the track, and the Cowans-Sheldon crane was the best. Pway equipment is something that's often neglected in preservation, but I'm glad that we still have some of it (Mostly ex-Network Rail, BR or Railtrack).

1369 looks like it was a disguised offering of Andrew Barclay bought in because Swindon was a bit busy. I cannot look at a Wickham rail-motor without thinking of 'The Great St Trinians Train Robbery'. Very interesting to see 'Moorbarrow'. I thought that it was at Louth in Lincolnshire along with an Peckett inside-cylinder 0-6-0-ST 'Ackton Hall No3'. Moorbarrow never ran at the NYMR. The railway had outgrown ex-industrial locomotives & 47 needed major attention to the firebox.
