    Sir I am 54 years old and was a hula hoop champ😂 back in my day. You gave a great explanation so I’m thinking maybe it’s just my weighted hoop. It’s a little on the floppy side because I bought it off amazon and the pieces connect together. It’s an okay concept but now using it I feel it is definitely the hoop and not my technique. You also mentioned size and that too never occurred to me as we didn’t have different sizes back in the day.

    Hi. Thank you so much! I'm an example of the proverbial, "cant walk and chew gum at the same time". I would practice the back and forth movement for a while and the moment I spin the hoop, I loose concentration and start moving in all directions. HELP!!!!!! I know that I have to keep practicing. I'm using a weighted hoop. Love your videos!!!

    Hey thank you so much for the compliment. In regards to your hooping, I would have to see more to fully understand what's happening. Have you considered hooping in front of a mirror before or filming yourself so you can see what you are doing. If your posture and how you are moving is off, then that could definitely make the hoop fall.

I’m 51 and have loved the past month of hooping! Still not successfully waist hooping, but that could be more a matter of fitness. All in good time, with practice. thank you! this video is really helpful. I just started today to work on my back pain and I do have some questions: 1. I noticed the hoop starting to go from horizontally, as it should be, to shifting into a diagonally motion. what am I doing wrong here? is my right foot too far in front? am I moving my hips in a wrong way? 2. can I go easy on the hooping or am I supposed to go super fast and strong? because it looks so easy when you do it and very hard when I go for it. can I still work on my lower back muscles and stamina while doing it more slowly? is there even a perfect tempo so to say? thanks again and hope all of you are healthy and well in these weird times!

    Thank you so much for this great instructional video. I met a dude who had great custom made hoops and I was able to keep one up easily. I was so suprised. The next day I felt it in my whole body, and I decided it is the perfect workout tool for me. I bought another kind of weighted hoop that is covered in foam and it is light. It is a challenge keeping it up. His were bigger. Still struggling, but will try filling it with rice and see if it helps. Wondering if I could buy the same hoop online again and add another section? Or maybe I should just look for a larger hoop. Thanks.

    The hoop isn’t slowing down, you are. You are the power behind the motion of the hoop. It’s not spinning itself. You have to really give it some cardio movement to keep it going. That is the point after all.

    I've just started practicing my hoop skills today, your video really helps! Though, I was doing some research online and I read that you can hurt your back if you hoop incorrectly. Do you have any more tips to prevent this from happening? :)

  • @hoopsmiles

    @hoopsmiles

    My advice here is the most important part is the hoop you are using. Some weighted hula hoops are dangerous to use and can lead to hurting your back. I don't recommend going over 2 pounds in weight and getting a hoops with bumps or knobs that stick out. A flat padded weighted hula hoop would be my recommendation. If you want to protect yourself more, then I would recommend wearing extra clothing or padding over the place you are hula hooping. In terms of hurting your back, I would stop immediately if you feel pain while hula hooping.

    Also forgot to add, when hula hooping, let your abs do the work, not your back. Flex your ab muscles tightly as you hula hoop to help propel the hoop around.

I have no trouble keeping the hoop up but my issue is that it hurts my skin!😞 I have even padding between my shirt and the hoop but still I feel bruised the next day! Am I doing it wrong if it hurts? (It's definitely not sore muscle pain, that I'm used to and I recognise it.) I have a normal weighted hoop. I don't understand why the bumps have to be on the inside, they hurt like hell.. I'd appreciate it so much if you have any tips 🙏🏼

    Hey hoopsmiles, I've got a question. I manage to keep the hoop from falling, BUT it pivots after a few seconds, so one end circles around my waist and another around the hips or thighs. I give it a strong starting push and I think I'm standing straight, so I can't figure out why this keeps happening. Btw, I'm using a weighted hoop, and using the first stance (although I have a bigger distance between feet). Please help :)

    Hi I can keep the hoop up for ages using both the one foot in front of the other and the feet shoulder width apart techniques but I can’t walk or move with it. As soon as I try to move it falls down, but I can keep going for hours if I stand on the spot. How do I keep it going and move?

  • @hoopsmiles

    @hoopsmiles

    3 жыл бұрын

    First off, are you able to keep the hoop up moving in the circular motion? The rocking back and forth is just 1 of multiple techniques to hula hooping. If you can keep the hoop up not rocking back and forth, that is ok, but it is good to learn how to move your body in multiple ways to hula hoop.

    Last hoop I used was my kid sister's. I was about 6 or 7-years-old and I got pretty good one summer then the fad stopped, we moved house and the hoop got binned. I've just ordered a new one at the tender age of 61, need to lose a load of weight but my cardiologist says that under it all my core is in great shape and my heart is better now than it was at 40 so there's hope. Have ordered a lightweight (1.4 kg) to start but hope to progress to heavier weights. I'm thinking several five-minute sessions a day to begin, how does that sound? Released to have found a site where a guy is showing how to hoop too!

    Oh no! Well I'd have to see what you are doing to get more of a feel for what you are doing. I'd say if it is hurting a lot you might want to stop. Once you are able to hoop, it shouldn't require much movement to make it work.

  • @Skxtra.

    Woah this helped. I've been able to hula-hoop for a long time. I swlf taught myself I think just by using logic I think. I'd been doing it wrong tho. I could only do for up to half a minute, but with your strategy I've managed to hit minutes and that's just cause I eventually get tired. I can even walk with it, but walking with it is pretty easy. I'd been doing a circular motion when really you're supposed to do a back and forth motion which I guess is why I could never keep it up for long. I didn't even think I'd be able to use it because the size and how skinny I am, thank you so much.

    You are welcome. One thing I would do is definitely work out your abs. Secondly, I would strengthen your back and really focus on various back stretching workouts many days leading up to the event. I would recommend stretching everyday. Though hula hooping doesn't seem that likely to cause injury, the repetitive motion for many hours continuously doing it can be quite a lot for the back to endure. I had the unfortunate experience of waking up the next day after hula hooping for hours with my back so stiff and sore. Definitely back stretching is a must. But to help your back from doing too much work, the abs are critical too. Too have a strong back I would also recommend stretching your hips and legs as well. Also, I would practice for longer periods hooping and see how your body feels. If necessary, to prevent bruising from hula hooping so long, you might want to wear some clothing with more cushion too. Thanks for asking this question. It inspires me to make a video with tips, including helpful strectches, exercises, etc.

    1.5 to 3 pounds is what I would recommend, depending on what you are trying to do with the hoop. Though depending on on health and how your body reacts to a heavier hoop hitting your stomach, that could impact the decision as well.

    Hello! 👋🏼 I just got my weighted hula hoop it looks just like yours in fact, I plan on doing 30 minutes a day I started yesterday and just finished my 30 mins today however I just wanna make sure I’m doing it correctly. My feet do face forward and are slightly farther than shoulder width, I do pay attention and the hoop is staying slightly above my belly button when it’s not I make sure to get back to my waist and I don’t have trouble keeping it up, it just feels to easy I feel like I may be doing something wrong 😂 like at 30 minutes I feel like I can keep going is it supposed to be tiring? Should I be out of breath at some point I keep in mind to flex my abs however it’s not consistent
