hey! I just wanted to let u know the panting in the car can be a stress pant. Something a lot of people dont actually dont know about... but definitely good to know! Since he is a brand new baby and is learning about the world, as well as going in the car which can actually make them car-sick, its expected and normal! But as you're socializing him it is a good sign to look out for and u can tell he has had enough :) Some situations are unavoidable but just good to know about! :) (Also yes im a dog trainer lol)

Brody is sleeping so much because he is growing at a super fast rate (as all puppies and babies do) and so his body needs a ton of sleep to do that

Hey Gretchen, Max and Brody!! ❤️ just thought I’d leave a random tip. I work at a vet hospital and a lot of cases we get, especially during the summertime, are pups who come in with heat blisters on their paws- they get these from being walked on hot pavement (it feels the same to them, as walking on hot sand feels to us!). Always do a hand test before walking your pup on the road, pavement, etc.! If it’s too hot for you hand, it’s too hot for your pup. 🐶

Gretchen!! Get a grass dog potty pad and bring it with you when you guys are driving long distances:) we brought it with us when we would travel and when we would stop somewhere for him to go, we would just put it down right outside of the car and let him go potty! bring a large container of some sort or a big bag to put it in when you get back into the car since it is full of his potty haha. We got one for our puppy because we traveled from albany to long island with our puppy a few times when we first got him. Definitely a good investment, especially since you'll be moving into an apartment soon so it'll be nice to have inside the place or even on a balcony if you have one!! best investment for a traveling pup :)

Alex Mauritius check out the bark potty!!! You don’t have to clean them & they don’t smell! Last about a month so would be perfect for a road trip

Puppies are like babies, they need a lot of sleep. Let him sleep untouched or he'll get sick from exhaustion. As he gets older, he'll stay up longer.

Learn from my mistake: I know letting him sit on your lap is the best thing ever, but don’t let him get used to it. My puppy always sat on my lap in the car. Now he’s 60 pounds and still thinks he can sit on me 😅 he screams if I make him sit in the back

Brody is just the cutest! You guys are really the best dog parents ever! I can tell how much you guys love him!

gretchen, you should get a car hammock for your back seat for when he's too big to hold in your lap in the passenger seat!! it will protect your seats and brody will be enclosed in a little space! my pup doesn't mind it!!

If you are worried about Brody eating to fast then you could try a slow feeder bowl. It doesn't work for all dogs but it's worth a try. We have the curbside vets here in Michigan still.

You can ABSOLUTELY give them human foods such as meat, veggies, and fruits! You don’t want anything heavily seasoned but adding some to his meal will be so much better than any wet food. Some organic bone broth is delicious too!!

I'm from Clifton Park Gretchen and I love it so much when your vlogs are home! Brody is the most precious boy I literally cry on the treadmill everyday watching these puppy vlogs! And Stewart's is actually elite!!!

Hey Gretchen! Love you and all the Brody content! I’m seeing a lot of people recommend bones, antlers and raw hides for teething however those are NOT recommended by vets and can cause dental issues and stomach problems. Obviously they won’t happen for every dog but it is a risk! I recommend KONG brand chew toys and making frozen treats when he starts teething 😊

Regarding travelling with Brody, the best idea is to try to find back roads where there are farm fields etc. and sides of the road where there are far less dogs than there would be in a town. Generally a road off of a highway is a convenient spot :)

Get a Bark Potty!!! It’s like a those patches you get for your dog if you don’t have a lawn- except it’s made from bark. It doesn’t smell, doesn’t require you to clean, not messy & lasts for a month! It would legit be perfect for your road trips cause you could just toss it down & stick it back in the car!

I love her relationship with max

We have a 11 week goldendoodle and we started using Fresh Patch since we live in an apartment and we have it right outside our front door so he still gets used to going outside! Perfect for an apartment! You could probably put it on a balcony too :)

also, it's safer for him if you get a puppy seatbelt instead of putting him by your feet. God forbid an accident happens, it actually protects them like humans and most have reflective tabs as well for nighttime, again if their was an emergency or if they go potty outside the vehicle

Morgan, I agree, since he has a harness the next best thing is to get a seat belt leash. When you need to make a sudden stop he can really get injured badly. Safety first. I use it for my dogs.

a good rule of thumb for puppies bathroom breaks is their age plus 1! so a 1 month old can hold it for 2 hours, 2 month, 3 hours, etc. when i got my puppy my parents had to come home every two hours it was crazy!

Puppies tend to have hiccups quite often but if you also are thinking he’s eating too quick i definitely recommend getting him a slow feeder bowl!

Hiccups are actually just a diaphragm spasm vs swallowing air. It's totally normal to have them frequently as a pup. Fun fact, babies get them a lot too while their growing :)

One dog travel tip I have learned from experience LOL is make sure you don't feed him right before you take him in the car incase of car sickness! Either feed him a few hours before or just wait. Learned this the hard way lol and it is not fun to clean up HAHA!! BTW Brody is absolutely adorable!!! Goldens are seriously the best dogs ever!!!

Brody is the cutest!! Make sure not to take him on long walks, goldens are prone to hip issues and puppies can get joint issues if walked when they are puppies. Ideally, wait a few more months. Y’all are so cute!!! ❤️❤️

I recommend pet insurance !!! It’s like 30 dollars a month and covers 90 percent of vet fees !!! Trupanion insurance

when we first got our puppy we were soo stressed about parvo and such, but our vet eased our minds saying that parvo hasn’t been a huge problem in the northeast states! avoiding dog parks and similar high traffic dog areas should be enough to keep fluffer safe until all his vaccines are done!

Really? I’m in NY and my friend’s puppy sadly passed from parvo last week. The stress is only temporary and will keep Brody healthy ❤️

One rec for baby brody - keep a water dish in the car! I’m happy you’re taking him everywhere with you that will really help him love to go for car rides which makes life so much easier! From experience though, pups (and doggies in general) get so thirsty so having a portable water dish with you allows them to be comfy and cozy while traveling and cruising around town with you! I’d also recommend a doggie bed for the back seat as he gets bigger so he learns his “spot” in the car :)!

I had two puppies that unfortunately caught parvo and passed away. We had never heard of it before and the two puppies passed it to eachother. If there is any advice I can give you guys, it’s just to be over protective until he is able to get the vaccine! If you are even a little worried about an area just ply it safe and don’t let him go! But he is absolutely adorable and you guys look sooo happy! You guys will be great puppy parents!

for brody, like don't share water bowls, anything public really, pee pads, he's little enough if you cut a hole in a diaper for their tail, he can wear that it helps if they get scared and secret stuff. Puppy advice, sometime rawhyde (however you spell it) isn't the best for dogs, one my dog was chewing unraveled and got stuck in her throat so I had to pull it out. Cute puppy, hope training goes well! You will be soooo happy you're crate training.

yess rawhides can be so dangerous! Antlers are super good as a replacement since they don't get mushy and slimy my pup loves them!

@@eleanormcgowan211 yeah my dog LOOOVEs her antler. the only thing is the Vet said to be careful with them because they are so hard they could break a dogs tooth. I have a miniature dachshund so her teeth are very small but a larger dogs teeth would probably be able to handle it better.

Hiii... first off obsessed w you and Brody! I’m getting a golden retriever pup in a month and watching your videos has be itching with excitement! In terms of going to the bathroom and the long car ride... since he’s still only 8 weeks old he’ll probably have to stop every 40 minutes... you may be able to get an hour out of him if you’re lucky... but it’s because he’s still such a baby he can’t control his bladder that much yet! I would also base it on how long you wait between taking him out each time! If he takes a long nap though definitely stop as soon as he wakes up! Also it’s best to not give him a ton of food or he might get sick!!!! (Happened with all my goldens growing up - they loved the car like Brody but not when they ate a ton of food)

My one piece of advice would be to get him used to sitting on his own in the back and him used to wearing a seat belt harness. If he is so used to being up in your lap he will be one of those dogs that is always trying to climb into the front seat and that super dangerous. I HIGHLY recommend the seat belt harness in case of emergency, you dont want him flying around the cab, you will want him safe in his seat just like you are.

A good place to stop on road trips is a gas station, they usually have a little grassy area near by that’s where we stop with my goldens!

Hi! I have a 12 week old goldendoodle and when we bring her in the car we try and find grassy patches that we think no one frequents and then wipe her paws off with a little baby wipe and are really careful to make sure she doesn’t eat anything. That’s what our vet told us was the best option but since he’s going to be driving a bunch Im sure your vet will be able to tell you what they suggest!

When Brody starts teething I recommend going to Chewy.com and ordering deer antlers and Himalayan cheese chews. They are the best and the antlers can last quite a while. Congratulations on your new Baby!

Aw yay it makes me so happy to see Lucy!! I can't go home to see my family right now because of the NY travel ban so I know it's hard to be away for so long!

The more puppies sleep it means they are growing, that’s why he is sleeping so much right now. Also I would suggest trying to start him riding in the back seat. My dog is one and gets anxious now having to ride in the back by himself since I let him ride on my lap all the time asa puppy.

I saw 47 minute vlog and I got soooo excited and then I saw LUCY TOO it’s gonna be a good one!

Omg I’m obsessed with all the Brody content 😍 my corgi pup is going to be a year old next month (I’m going to cry thinking about it) I definitely recommend getting Brody some interactive/puzzle toys to help keep him entertained so he’s not gnawing or chewing on anything, especial when teething. Also maybe start getting him used to a doggy toothbrush and toothpaste so you can brush his teeth, they make some specifically for puppies and it’s super safe. You should also consider get a crate for the trunk of the care if you’re able and have Brody ride in there, it’s the safest option for a dog . If you don’t have space in the trunk though get him a doggy seatbelt and clip it to his harness. We want to make sure our babies are safe especially when driving because even though you might be a good driver, someone else might not and we don’t want anything happening to our fur babies in the car. So happy for you to be home and back with your mom and Lucy 🤗

When my puppy was little the vet told me to make sure she didn't eat the grass when we stopped to let her pee and she also said get baby wipes to wipe their feet... this would help prevent the transmission of parvo.
