Thank you, Annette! I’ve been enjoying the bits of time I get to spend sewing and making, with the wedding behind us, things have slowed down and I feel like I’ll be able to take a more leisurely approach to my makes ( although, I seem to do well with a timeline/ deadline lol) I am looking forward to sewing for myself soon though!

Thanks for bringing us along to the wedding. Everything was beautiful. You are seeing a pocket and you know it is not sewn 😂. You are doing a lot for a busy mom with a newborn. I bet your son’s teacher was very touched by your thoughtful gift. I have always used spray starch, never done the dunk and dry. I will have to try it.

Thanks so much Christine!😊 my sons teacher loved her gift, and that made it all worth it. Sneaking the time for a bit of sewing had helped me feel a bit more myself in this newborn phase, so I’ve enjoyed it. I’m really liking the liquid starch, I’d equate it to cooking (spray starch) vs. baking (liquid starch) , as there is a bit less manual work needed in the stiffening process after the initial prep lol I hope that analogy works lol

When i was feeding i layered my usual tops over a vest top with access seams. Ive been making spray starch with cornflour for a while. It makes such a difference ! Lovely to hear your update ☺️

Your dress came out so beautiful. When you starch your material and then cut it out and sew it up do you wash the garment to get it back to its natural state?

Thank you so much, Helen!! Yes, when I starch the fabric, I am intending to wash the garment and get it back to its natural state and fluid drape. The starch is a great way to make the fabric more manageable while I’m sewing it 🤗 I did get a chance to wash it out and I shared how it looked in my most recent video. I am pleased to report it worked! If you have a tricky fabric, I’d suggest doing a swatch, but I’m glad it worked for my fabrics!

Thank you so much! Your question has actually inspired me to record my full process in using it, and I hope to share and review this method on the channel. But to answer, this is more or less my first time trying the liquid starch method (I usually just use spray starch in an aerosol can and iron, sew the garment, and wash it after), but I plan to use the same method I use with the spray starch. The instructions say to mix the starch solution with water (this initial time I did one part liquid starch, 2 parts water), submerge the fabric fully, wring out fabric (the more you wring the fabric out the less stuff the fabric may be, leave the fabric more saturated for more stiffness), hang to dry, iron while damp. Here is where I have slightly strayed away- I allowed the fabrics to completely dry outside ( mostly because I was getting on with other things around the house), and lightly pressed the fabric. I found it to have great results for the silky fabric I was preparing. I am sewing the fabric with the starch still on it, in this stiffened state, it has made it so much easier to manipulate and handle, and I plan to wash it like normal after to wash out the starch and bring it back to its fluid drape. I will share how that goes after it’s washed 🤗 I hope to share more soon

To make the “drapey fabric” easier to cut you soak the fabric in the starch and water mix then air dry it? Will the starch wash out and the fabric go back to normal? Do you wash the starch out before or after the garment is sewn? I would love to know as I too shy away from cutting drapey fabrics. This is a game changer.
