KITTEN DROP-OFF & NEW BEGINNINGS: After the vet checkup last week for Sokka and Suki, the foster team contacted me about dropping them off for an adoption event this weekend. Given they were already over 2 lbs and 8 weeks old, it generally matches the criteria to get adopted in NYC (2 months + 10 weeks). It was a bit sudden, as I thought we'd have two more weeks together but all good things must come to an end. As a foster, saying goodbye is the goal as your job is to set them up for success. I've done this so many times now I don't really get sad anymore - maybe it feels bittersweet, but after 1-2 days I'm back to normal and looking forward to the next batch.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: This week one of my old classmates from studying abroad (2004 in Sweden) passed away from cancer. We crossed paths as a group of international students living in the same dormitory. Everyone went their separate ways afterwards, but Facebook allows you to lurk and follow along in a creepy way. Ever since her terminal diagnosis in late 2023, she would document how she was living life, going to community events, volunteering to speak, singing her favorite songs at karaoke, and more. She was a great role model and reminder on how to live life to the fullest.
NEW KITTENS: Shortly after I dropped off Sokka and Suki, the foster team contacted me to pick up another kitten duo named Cantaloupe and Baobab. I had no idea what a baobab was and turns out it's a tree. Sometimes the names they choose make no sense, but there are so many homeless animals that they can't put much thought into it, so I get it. These two kittens so far are very shy and behind the litter box when I visit them. It will take a while before they can both meet Copper & Jade, but we'll get there!
