So lets say for example that in the exam they trow you a question on motor load calculation and one of the answers they're asking for is the size of an over load protection device OCPD. In this case you always, always have to chose a step down form your numbers? Also I would like to ask you one more question. What is the minimin cover requirements for a swimming pool underground service conductors? Thank a bunch and God bless.

When sizing your standard OLP overload protect device you must use the next size down from the standard ratings listed in 240.6A. and if I'm understanding your second question correctly you are going to use table 300.5 depending on your scenario for underground conduit/conductor runs. Hope this helps!

Good day Coach on box fill the grounding conductors have changed a little bit it says to add 1/4 for every additional conductor above four grounding conductor‘s in a box based on the largest conductor. 2020 code book

Thanks a lot for your answers. I just got confused because a previous instructor told us students to go one size up for motor over load protection selection. This was his question: What size overload would you select for the following motor? 10 HP 240Volts 3ph wound-rotor After multiplying 28amps x 150%=42 we ended up selecting the 45 amps from table 240.6 (A) but after watching your video I guess we should have chosen a 40amp one right?

Yes, to me the code book is very tricky about this. The reason you do the next size down is because it does not say that you can choose the next standard size. It does not specifically say to choose the next size down just the absence of the verbiage saying that you can choose the next size. It would be nice if they would clarify it by saying that you cannot choose the next size up.

Do we just assume a motor is continuous duty if the question doesn’t specify? Since 430.32 says continuous duty motors

Where in the codebook does it tell us to select the next size down?

This one is tougher! How it works is in 430.31 it does not specifically allow you to use the next size up so you must use the next size down.
