S H A ID O X To play devil's advocate; saying that smoking weed is harming your lungs "but it's not the weed" is like saying that smoking cigarettes is harmful but "it's not the actual cigarette's fault". Granted however even just tobacco by itself which contains no additives still is poisonous and still has nicotine in it so it's obviously toxic whereas weed isn't. So there's really no debate to be had in terms of which is more harmful. Cigarettes are the most deadly cocktail of chemicals on the market.

cigarettes are worse than alcohol and alcohol is ridiculously worse than weed. we arent talking about straight out of the ground tobacco, we are talking cigarettes vs weed. unless the weed is laced (which if pot were legalized im sure laced would be illegal)... (actually even if it is laced it'd still be safer than alcohol) theres alot less nasty stuff in a joint than a cigarette.

@@mcozy333 not really, just look at the numbers, I'll use 2018's numbers, 1.3 million people visited rehab, about the same number of people were in jail that year for drug charges, yet the statistics show that only 10% of prisoners get go to rehab as part of a deal in their sentence, so really, our of the 1.3 million people in rehab that year, only 130 thousand of them were criminals

@@mcozy333 Well. Weed isn't physically addictive. If you build up a routine, or remain high 24/7, and suddenly stop, you will feel a difference. It means that your body is adjusting to life without weed, instead of actually needing weed. With that being said, it is very much possible, and easy to develop such a habit. Many stoners don't really care that they need weed, because they aren't feeling like death if they go 12-24 hours without it. Many people need weed, and are therefore addicted to weed. Few of those will actually visit a rehab clinic. A heroin addict might get clean and relapse later, not because their body needs it, but because they've built up a routine around using the drug. The same goes for weed. The only difference is you won't actually feel "sick" without having already established a routine. In other words; you can be a functional weed addict, but the same doesn't go for heroin.

This was posted 6 years ago and we have barely seen any change. The government is blind.

I am physically addicted, unhealthy, I will literally die if I quit and I don't have the money for rehab... Alcohol is one of the most horrific drugs in the world. @@chungusballshd8743 The big thing there is "can", it has to be proven with multiple stage 3 clinical trials before the FDA moves it to a schedule II drugs. The FDA isn't actually resisting that, contrary to popular belief, it actually has given recently a manual for how to do those trials in the hope that the research is done.

Mushrooms cause hallucinations which can cause death, not on purpose but can those trips make you feel like you could fly off any building... Edit: I keep forgetting to edit this comment, but I have left it unedited for so long because it makes me laugh every time I see it. I don’t believe in this anymore (I oversimplified drug use). I was severely uneducated about drugs when I wrote this and thought that a lot anti drug things was true. I’ve since learned that things like shrooms can treat things like depression in small doses and has the possibility to help people.

Marijuana is a "backyard drug" or something like that, I can't remember the term exactly. Pretty much it means that the PEOPLE grow marijuana (hence the need for dealers). You don't see many people growing or making cigarettes, because the government, or industries do that. It's just the fact that marijuana can be made by the public, so they can't directly tax it really.

Since my friends started smoking pot, they stopped abusing alcohol, some of them even dropped all alcohol except for a beer or glass of wine from time to time. I dont smoke, and only drink on special ocasions, but i'm fully supportive of those who want to make pot legal.

I was on the brink of becoming an alcoholic. I drank myself drunk maby 4-6 times a week for almoust two mounths. When i feelt that i started to crave alcohole the first thing in the morning, I got scared and went back to smoke pot to calm down. thing was that that two weeks after i still drank 3 times a week but i mixed it with weed. at first I got sick allot vomited when i was mixing. but as time went I lowered my alcohole intake to maby 1 liter of beer those times that i drank. so in 2 weeks i hade gone from getting drunk 4-6 times every week to not even getting drunk. and now i can go weeks without thinking about it. It wasn't even a struggle to be honest

I speak by experience, my country is the first, and only one iirc that has regularized (differs from legalized because it's controlled, it's not as 'free' as alcohol yet for instance) marijuana, and they make almost no money out of it. But our government is Socialist (real Socialist, not what Americans call 'left') so they don't really care about taxing things like a flower or pot.

But here although it's true companies are closely controlled, you can grow up to six cannabis plants in your backyard, and you can perfectly sell them (the leaves or whatever their English name is), just not as a 'cigarrete' because people wouldn't know what's inside. Also, you can simply buy cannabis in any drugstore, without any major difficulty.

+*****​ Sure. But it's not even near as high as you implied before, that's what I mean. The government's economical profit is minimal, but what they do get is people out of much harder drugs. Here some poor people use "Pasta base", which is even worse than crack in every possible sense. It's made of what's left after the crack process, and of what is too hard to be "useful" for crack. People who are on pasta base have literally nothing they fear, and as they don't get a job, they steal/mug/whatever. What makes them specially dangerous is that they tend to kill you regardless of what you do. They ask for your phone, you give it to them, and they may still shoot you. Regularizing marijuana is a way to have those people use drugs (as you can't get drugs out of the picture, pragmatism) but not "hard" drugs, that being mainly pasta base. And so you may get some rastafari-like poor people, instead of a lot of gangsters or murderers. That's the main profit, not taxes.

Any change to the status quo is massively difficult to convince people of, even without vested interests pushing back against it. But this is also why wider legalisation among states is likely to be the best route to legislation (or at least downgrading in the Schedule). As more people see no significant negative change to areas where cannabis is more legal, then any federal move against it will become less popular (at the very least being seen as disproportionate, if not entirely unjustified). This will also make it easier to argue for further changes towards legalisation. Mind you, we also had that here in the UK, where cannabis was downgraded from a Class B to a Class C drug (the downgrading mainly changing the severity of personal possession), then upgraded back a few years later. Mind you, the upgrade was not a popular nor evidence-backed move (it was arguably on the opinions of a few people), and there're a number of people even in government arguing for return to Class C. As an interesting aside, if the Federal government came down hard on legalised cannabis, you'd also get the strange paradox of young liberal Republicans.

6 years later and it’s still a schedule 1 drug. SMH

Straightforward into the point I really appreciate it cause I looked at all the videos about 10 or so and yours was the best I thought when it comes to simply putting that marijuana versus Alcohol and you did just that thank you.

During a music festival in Viña del mar, in Chile (where I live), a comedian said something about marijuana and alcohol, a drunk guy on half an hour empties another bottle of booze, fights with his girlfriend, punches a bunch of people, slashes his hand with a broken glass and crashes a car, in the same period of time a stoned guy probably just watches a wall, and maybe laughs.

I've done both and while i occasionally drink a beer during football or wine when i go out to eat...i quit weed over 10 years ago. Weed sent me to the ER with a severe chest infection, weed made me lethargic, paranoid and I gained weight. Even if weed were legal everywhere i'd never touch the stuff again.

Jo O Lol that shows what you know about weed, First of all there is two different types of weed, Indica/Sativa, Indica slows down the system causing people to feel lazy and lethargic and is often used as a sleep aid, Sativa is the exact opposite, Sativa instead Gives your mind a sense of energy which lead to people doing more things, like dancing/singing/running etc it even boosts the creative process by shutting off the part of the brain that Causes people to worry about what other people might think about whatever an artist might be creating, there are tons of artists that suffer from anxiety that say they probably wouldnt be able to create if it wasnt for Weed (Sativa) which puts that self deprecating voice in your head on mute

Here's something most people don't know about government. It's more dangerous than marijuana.

I know it's just a personal anecdote, but I was a very heavy drinker until I started using marijuana regularly. Weed makes you not even care about alcohol (unless you're chemically addicted) because you still get the mind-altering affect with much more mild side-effects, and the plus side of not destroying all of your insides. Also, your dealer doesn't judge how often/much you buy.

Yeah Canada is legalizing it in 2018. It will mean you can even grow up to 5 marijuana plants in your yard.

As a French that has been living in Canada and currently in the Netherlands (legalized), I can tell you I have smoked way more when I was in France than in those two other countries together... telling you it doesn't affect people's habits if marijuana is legal or not

Whoever classifies these drugs in the same group is obviously doing them.

Yesterday I spent the night at my friends house and we both smoked until we were stoned af. Nothing bad happened, just chilling around playing video games and watching T.V. Meanwhile, in the same exact night (thank god I spent the night), my dad is drunk driving home and raging and screaming against my sister about his divorce when she did nothing wrong....

Love the comment about it being a huge public health win that some drinkers would switch to weed! I couldn’t agree more, when I go out with friends I drink, even though I hate drinking. It’s hard to turn down all the drink specials/free drinks, and plus if everyone around you is drunk you don’t want to be that one sober person because it gets really annoying really quick. I’ve said myself on multiple occasions I would love doing more activities and stuff if I could swap out alcohol for weed, literally everything you can do drink I think it’s better to do high.

Ever since I started using marijuana recreationally, I haven’t drank alcohol outside of a social glass of wine here and there.

I think I know why marijuana was classified as Class 1. It is because under marijuana, the user becomes much more paranoid than usual, and thus, paranoia leads to conspiracy. In fact, most conspiracy theories are created under the use of marijuana. Especially during the 1960s, the hippie stoner was not only a stoner but an active protestor against injustices such as the Vietnam War, segregation, outlawing homosexuality, etc. As a result, the government feels it is dangerous because it promotes protest and motivates social change. Now whether protest and social change is good or not is up to you. But a government that bans a drug that makes the user question the actions of said government seems a bit mysterious in itself.

When the drug war first began, and drugs were being identified and listed, Marijuana was temporarily listed in Schedule 1 during testing in the event it was horribly dangerous. However, after multiple studies determined that it should be lowered in classification, or altogether dropped from the list of controlled substances, Nixon (being Nixon) decided that it would remain as Schedule 1 despite the evidence, likely to add fuel for the war on drugs.

Legislators don't like history or science, they like what they feel. If they're scared of something they'll ban it. And you're partially right as well as he is. There is an array of reasons for why it is still legal. Not only does it provide tax revenue, it provides jobs and facilitates international trade. The prohibition wasn't quite as rowdy as people would have you believe, however it did obviously instigate organized crime and bootlegging. Hopefully you're right and people did learn their lesson.

If I could walk down to my corner store and buy a bag of weed, I'd never touch a drink so long as I live.

It is ridiculous that cannabis is schedule 1 in the first place but no one in their right mind thinks opiates especially ones as potent as fentanyl are safe than cannabis. cannabis will soon have its schedule changed though, but i'm not really sure it should even be on there.

I stopped drinking when i became an active weed enjoyer and i enjoy the lack of hangovers

How do I convince my family that weed isn't bad? All of them believe that it is a gateway drug, and will ruin my life. They are completely stuck in the past and have limited knowlege. They also refuse to read or listen to any articles or videos that don't portray weed as a demon drug. I don't drink at all anymore because of weed. It helped me out a lot. I just need to convince them.
