Wednesdays with Bob

Welcome to the one hundred and sixty-sixth Wednesdays with Bob video!
Normally these English lessons are for members only, but for today, I'm releasing it for everyone. Enjoy!
In this English lesson I talk about how two dogs almost bit me while I was walking. Remember even though this isn't a traditional English lesson, it is still a great way to practice your English listening skills! Thanks for being members!
TRANSCRIPT:
Well, hello, and welcome to Wednesdays with Bob. Remember, even though this isn't a traditional English lesson, there are word for word English subtitles if you need to turn them on, and a complete transcript in the description below.
Well, I just got back from my walk. I actually went for a full 90 minutes this morning, and it's been a while since I've done that. I do like going for really, really long walks, so it felt really good. But I'm feeling a little out of sorts. I don't know if you know that word. I'm feeling a little out of sorts because two dogs ran out about 2 km down the road. There's a place that has two big german shepherds. They look like this. They're kind of mean looking, and normally they're in like a kennel area.
But today when I walked by, they weren't and they came running at me, barking very, very angrily. And so I was on the same side of the road as the dogs. So I looked both ways to make sure there was no traffic. There was a big truck coming, but it was kind of far away. And I ran across the road and then I turned and I just started yelling at the dogs, like, hey, get away. Get lost. Get. Get! And then I saw the owner running from his house, yelling at the dogs as well. And then the big truck that was coming had to come to a full stop because the one dog stayed on the other side of the road. The other dog came across the road at me, still barking. And I just remember seeing a lot of teeth. And I had my winter hat in my hand, so I was getting ready to throw it.
And this is going to sound kind of strange, but I was trying to think, okay, if this dog does try to bite me, where do I want it to bite me? And so I decided it would be my left arm. Sounds kind of funny. It's not funny at all. But if I had to sacrifice part of me, I would let the dog bite there and hopefully the owner would come. But just as the dog was about a meter and a half away from me, the owner was yelling like crazy like I said. And finally the dog heard the owner and turned and ran away. Big truck was stopped. I actually wish the truck had honked his horn. That might have stopped the dog as well. But anyways, a little bit scary, but I'm fine. My Fitbit, though, did say that my heart rate went up quite a bit during that little incident.
Anyways, this is what it looks like here. Yeah, not much to show you. It's like kind of green. We really need it to freeze and we really need to get some snow that's actually good for some crops and to kill off some different insects. But we're just out here enjoying the warm weather. It is nice to go for a walk without freezing, but at the same time, hopefully it gets a lot colder soon.
Anyway, thanks for being members. Thanks for watching these little Wednesday videos. See you next week with another one. Bye.
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

Oh, boy. Sounds pretty scary. I had the similar experience that I used to be given a dirty look from a German shepherd on the way to home after school when I was a kid. The dog was in the owner's garden surrounding the fence. But it could've joumped out of it if it wanted to do. So, I would always let my guard up and think the strategy to escape from it.( My strategy was climbing up a tree where is near and call out the owner, hehe😂.) You grabbing your hat and make a fist to sacrifice might have been your instinct unconsciously. I'm glad that you didn't hurt. 😊 Seems like a bit warm winter there in Canada and So does Japan. Thanks 😉🐕🏃

Hi Bob! After a few incidents like this, I bought a device called a signal launcher with noise and pepper cartridges. My experience shows that after the first noise shot, dogs remember that they have some important things to do elsewhere. So I still haven't had a chance to try the pepper cartridge. Many of the runners I know here also successfully use stun guns. Take care! And of course, thanks for sharing this story.

Hi Bob, Thank for this lesson. Your story is quite distressing 😨 and as you explain it could have ended with bites 🐕🐺. I think that for your future walks you would do well to carry some kind of spray with an irritant product like pepper for example to keep away possible aggressive animals. Even if the owners of the animals are responsible and you could file a complaint, we would all be worried for you if you were seriously injured by a nasty creature! 🦍🐯🦣🦏🐐😁 I know that hickers in areas where there are wild bears are strongly encouraged to take this type of defense equipment with them against bear attacks 🐻. Without a doubt it has already saved many injuries and even lives! Stay safe Bob, and good slide towards 2024! See you!

Bob, here's a little joke. It's a husband telling his wife that he wants to take a walk in the surrounding meadows to collect snails for dinner. His wife, knowing that when her husband says that he always comes home late and drunk as hell. Therefore, she threatens him that if he is not home by 4 pm. and in a sober state, that she will be waiting for him with the rolling pin to give him a party. That being said, the husband leaves as planned to go collect some snails and arrives around quarter to 4 pm with his basket full of snails he begins to return home so as not to be late for fear of having troubles with his wife. But unfortunately on the way back he passes his favorite beer store and there he can't resist the urge to have a drink, telling himself that there was just a little time left to treat himself to a little drink. But unfortunately for him, he takes a drink, then a second, a third, and many more without realizing that he has already passed the time indicated by his wife. Indeed, it's 5 pm, 6 pm,...8 pm and he still hasn't come home and moreover, he's completely drunk. In a moment of lucidity despite his condition, he decides to return home with his bag of snails on his back while not knowing how to explain his delay and his condition to his wife. There, arriving almost in front of his door, he stumbles on the step of his porch and thereby lets all the snails scatter in front of him. His wife, armed with her rolling pin, finally hears him coming home and is ready to make him understand, as expected, her deep dissatisfaction. So she rushes outside and there her husband acts as if he is talking to the snails on the ground, saying to them: “Here, my little ones, we have finally arrived home, it’s about time… isn’t it?” 🤣

Having an experience like that is definitely not fun. It's nice to hear that nothing serious happened and you didn't have to implement your thought with your left arm. Dogs that are not under the control of their owner are very dangerous. There are many stray dogs on the streets in Turkey and unfortunately we encounter such dangerous situations every day. Especially children are harmed a lot. Irresponsible dog lovers feed those dogs on the streets and don't care if people get hurt.

Christians believe that God has a son, so they celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus, who is the Son of God. We find Muslims who believe that Jesus was human and that God did not have a son, so the Muslim congratulates the Christian on the birth of the Son of God. The question is why the Christian did not say that Adam is the son of God, for he was created without a father. There is no mother. The Holy Qur’an (the Holy Book in Islam) contains a surah called Al Imran, which contains the story of Jesus and his mother, and there is another surah called Mary, which tells the story of Jesus’ mother. The Muslim believes that Mary, peace be upon her, is the mistress of the women of the worlds. When Jesus was asked, and this is mentioned in the Qur’an, his Lord asked him, “Did you tell them that you are the Son of the Lord?” He denied that and said, “Rather, I told them, ‘I am a human being and a servant of the Lord.’” In the Qur’an, there is a story about Jesus and that he was not killed, rather he was not crucified, and the one who was being crucified was Judas who betrayed Jesus. Jesus now did not die and is alive, but he is in heaven and his age now, if the Gregorian date is true, it is 2022 years. At the end of time, Jesus returns to earth and gets rid of a man who claims to be Lord. Then Jesus dies as humans die. Jesus was born in the summer and not in the winter because in the Qur’an the story of his birth was mentioned when his mother Mary gave birth to him and the Lord said to her, “Shake the trunk of the palm tree so that the dates will fall on you, and dates do not ripen except in the summer.” All of these stories are mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. To be sure of its authenticity, you only have to read the scientific miracles in it. For example, there is a lot of information that has been confirmed by science and studies have proven its validity. For example, in the Qur’an, when a person ascends into space, he loses oxygen and feels suffocated, and also at a certain point in space, light disappears. Suddenly, it was as if I had become blind, and these texts in the Qur’an prove that it is the Book of God. How could a man in a desert know all these facts when they were not discovered except in this time, the time of the discovery of space??
