Simon, I started watching your videos back in 2016, I call you my first mentor. I now own a pottery shop and gallery in Dallas Texas where I make and sell my work to the public. I owe a lot of my success and accolades to your teaching in my early stages. Thanks again so much for everything you do my friend. Cheers

Good to hear my friend :)
John and Fiona Prine singing in the background, perfect
I’ve started to do this at college and it makes the pugged or bagged clay much easier for me to throw. And it’s fun to slam it about a bit
Hi Simon.....it's Barbara from NJ.....technology has me in a tizzy.....our meeting wad cancelled due to an elevator outage problem. I didn't forget you. Sorry....Hope you could come out to NJ? Meanwhile....I might stop by.....

Keep calm and carry on potting :)
Kneading isn’t intended to add air to dough. It’s to develop gluten.
I like that your wedging table is low so you can get more leverage.

If you stand beside your wedging table, with a straight arm your hand should be flat on the table…that’s the right height for you !

@@sleachpotsha! I was just wondering about this last night. Now I know.
Is there a reason that you do not use a pug mill? (Besides the price)

1:19 He says it's because he recycles clay. Also, a pug mill introduces spiral memory into the clay, so often potters choose to wedge it anyway.

I do have a pug mill that I use when I have enough clay to justify using it. I would say wedge/knead your clay in any case. Having a pug mill is not necessary, but is helpful at times. Even new clay out of the bag should be wedged/ kneaded before balling up and throwing with it…in my opinion :)

I have had to wedge some new clay because it was so wet straight out of the bag, and I did notice a big difference when I used it. I also have to wedge my reclaim but I can't get it as smooth as yours yet. My kneading leaves alot to be desired. I'll keep practicing!! Thanks
Mr Simon, why do you play pugmill when you have one?

It keeps me fit, and I don’t use a pug mill for small amounts of clay. Not worth the time and hassle.

@@sleachpots I hope you continue showing the basic introductory part of pottery. It is a good teaching tool for beginning potters. I always learn something even though I use a pug mill to mix and deair clay.
And into your nose too 😂
You mean I don’t knead to wedge

Wedge if needed or if not just spiral knead!
