I keep a "bride" hanger with me and a command strip hook. I've had times where the dress hangers are horrid and/or there was no where to hang the dress for photos. The hanger is beautiful (about $12) and the command hook can hang anywhere and don't damage property.

YEEEEESSSSS OMG!!!! Even just a nicer wooden hanger would do. SO MANY WEDDINGS the dress has the crapiest hanger. This honestly is a GOAT answer right here.

Love this! I would also say, bring clear umbrellas for the couple in case it's raining. Keep them in your car!
Just wanted to let you know what a gem you are John. I am so grateful for the information you share in your videos.

Mosquito spray if you're in the south! Yesterday the wedding coordinator literally took the bottle from my hands and sprayed her children lol before I could get it over to the bride. Also allergy medicine, tums, a razor, advil, and clear umbrella in case it rains.
One of the things that I have always been asked for are tissues. Everyone cries at a wedding and have people remember you for helping out above and beyond taking pictures makes a difference.
Love the lay flats! Thanks for that! One thing I never forget are 3M hooks. Think of all those spot that have no way of hanging the dress. I arrive, look for the ultimate dress shot, stick that thing on the wall and wait a bit to let it set. I also have a bridesmaid near by incase it falls. It never has.
Thanks for sharing John. Essentials to always carry to a wedding for sure. You are very details oriented I really like that about you.

Golden tips man, thank you!
I always keep business cards in various places so i dont forget. My prime place is in my card pouch. There is a little area where I can keep 10-15 cards. Every bad I have has a little ID window, so I put 7-8 business cards in there as well. Can never have too many. Keep up the great videos, loving your channel.

Something else to add to this list: a wooden hanger. Sometimes for dress shots, they have it on those cheap, ugly plastic hangers and there is no nice hanger available to use. You can order a brown/wood looking hanger from Amazon and bring it with you to get better looking dress shots!

20 minutes for details should not impact the people photos, and they are such a huge part of the wedding day as the B&G have put so much effort into buying and getting these bits and bobbles. And like every album, you need to have a variety of shots from wide to close ups. I consider it valuable B-roll images ;)

Great video! I love the idea of putting different photos on the back on the business cards. I see your link to Moo, but how did you go about getting a different pic on every card? Do they have an option when you are designing the cards to upload a bunch of photos and they will automatically print on the back?

YES! I need to buy a set and always have it with me. Nothing like a cute clear umbrella if it rains a little bit. Makes for great intimate photos.
I’ve heard about lume cube for years but just never paid attention. Do you have more videos on it and which you use the most...small or large? Don’t want to spend unnecessary money!
What Gnarbox hard drive do you own? Which size do you suggest for a wedding photographer?!
I think lot of new photographers discount old school marketing methods that are perfectly fine like business cards. I recently did a letterbox drop for my event photography and the ROI is far superior than doing facebook ads. They still work ya'll that is why billion dollar businesses still do it.

Hey, thanks for the cool video. What are the pros of the Lume Cube over an on camera flash during a sparkler exit?
@jbivphotography
3 жыл бұрын
It's mainly being able to keep the ambiance of the sparklers. Flashes will normally drown that out. Also, if you're not totally comfortable with flashes having a consistent light is a little easier to work with since you can actually see it. Those are the only things that come to mind for me. I really like the look of the natural illumination from the sparklers rather than the sparklers being totally drowned out.
@jbivphotography
3 жыл бұрын
Here's an example for you actually. take.ms/R8LK9 No offense to this photographer as their shot is awesome on the left. But do you see how the sparklers have no "life" to them since what's really lighting up the scene are the flashes. Which you can clearly see shadows all over the place and the OCF in the back there. But if you look at my photo on the right I was using a Lume Cube to light up the couple (just to make sure they were lit enough) and then using the illumination from the sparklers to fill in the rest of the light. See how much brighter the sparklers look. You can really tell that the light is coming from them. And while yes technically my photo is probably more grainy since I had to jack my ISO up a bit and drop my shutter speed but personally I like the look of natural light much better. I hope that helps!

But, I recently just got asked to be the actual bride and I have no idea how to respond. The person who asked me is actually someone I know and we've been dating for quite a while and I don't really know how to respond. I appreciate being thought of, but I'm a more behind the camera girl, you know? Should I tell him that it's a conflict of interest? I mean, who is he getting to photograph it? He even asked me if I know of someone? WTF? Why would he not consider me? I really like him and I thought we could have a future together, but after this? Who knows.
