I’m not from the U.S. and in my culture, taking a husbands last name is not something that we do. I actually don’t personally know anyone that has done that and it’s very strange when I see other women wanting to. The tradition of taking a husband’s last name stems from the fact that women were properties and when they got married that ownership was passed from their father to their husband. It was purely transactional. From that point on, she and everything that was hers would belong to her husband. Now, the idea of what marriage is has shifted. Among other things, it’s a partnership, where each individual belongs to God and themselves and they chose to share their lives with each other. Taking someones last name doesn’t determine how much love, respect or admiration one has for that person. It isn’t something that women should feel obligated to do. A lot of women want to do it and it can be a beautiful thing and a lot of other women choose not to do it and it’s a very beautiful thing as well. There can be empowerment in keeping your name. You are your own person and you come from a specific place and family, there is no need for you to erase that and legally change that name. You can start your own family with your husband without doing so. My point is that taking a husbands last name is a choice and if you are struggling with that choice, you really don’t have to do it. It doesn’t make you a better more committed wife and deciding to do it or not definitely shouldn’t be taken as a sign or measurement of the love and respect that is shared in the relationship.

I was thinking bout asking my my groomsman to not have Smurf blue hair he been dying for years but we having a purple gray wedding. Letting go of the last name is scary but doing so and taking on the new one is a beautiful way to symbolize 2 becoming one in and you submitting to Kyle in marriage! :) But of COURSE overall you do you boo, and even pray about if you're super distressed and the Lord will give you peace on what to do. :)

I want to be respectful while I ask this. Why do women have to change their names? Why is it just women "submitting" themselves to their husbands? Why not submit to each other, and if so why do only women change their names? Does God love men more or do people think men love and know God more?

Kian is this channel name going to stay as Kian Tilton or are you going to change it to Kian Wolfgang?

Why did you do so many DIYS but pay so much for the wedding? Just curious as to why you spent a lot of money but still had to do so much planning?

Most of the DIYs were for decorations, which did save us money. However you can't necessarily DIY the bigger expenses such as catering, bar, venue, rentals, etc. Those are all things that cost thousands of dollars and add up quickly! Just our venue and catering made up 50% of what we spent.

How much did you spend on your wedding dress. My parents paid for my dress as my wedding gift and it was about $3,000. I love Kyle and his personality! I also loved the garter dance. Which is all good news because I am the one married to him and it seems you would like something different in a partner and that's amazing too! 💛
