I think you're onto something. Some categories I follow mostly collapsed some time ago, but they collapsed further in March. Looks like the end of avalanche SEO.

Thanks for this video, I have a site that has been hit exactly the same as this. What did you do to recover from this. Did you delete pages that were competing with each other and redirect them to the page you now want to rank for these keywords?

I just want to say that I watch a lot of SEO Tubers but you're like the only one that pinpointed my issue with my site. So thanks! How long did it take for the site to recover after implementing the changes?

Great video Marie, and after a quick look at my Search Console for a couple of my websites that were hit by HCU with 90% traffic drops, there are hints that they may be suffering from topic cannibalization. However, I am wondering if you could explain what you mean when you say a topic has 'collapsed'? Do you mean that there is a change in the way that Google understands the topic?

I'd actually love a step by step explanation on how to look for the specific keyword or topic that may be causing cannibalization. One of my sites has almost 900 posts, it dropped with the October update and then in March again. I write about travel so of course I have some generic posts for a destination, and then more specific ones - for example, best places to visit in X and then different post for XYU attraction in X. If your theory about topic cannibalization is correct then it means that we travel bloggers can't really have more than a post or two about the same destination???

There is nothing we can do. On Bing, everything is still the same, but Google is like a Boeing plane it's unsafe to fly.

Yes, that was my whole point. Core and HCU are seeing the same things.

This is awesome, thanks a lot!! I got hit site-wide but when it happened I noticed that some pages were ranking for other pages' keywords for a while. At that time I just shrugged it off, but you just opened my eyes😂 I'm sure having a closer look will be very worthwhile👌

Yes, it is something I am seeing regularly with the core as well as HCU, site wide! We have much to do before the next core is rolled out and we begin to recover. Good luck to you! Let me know if you see anything interesting.

Thank you Marie! Makes sense. Can you clarify please what a topic collapsing is... Do you mean the child pages are so similar that they all look the same to Google so there is no differentiation between pages and hence no overall topical coverage from those pages in aggregate? Thanks
