"The Chinese have this talent of pissing people off" (!:19:53), how true! 😂 If I might add: "Even though they have the best of your interests!". I thank Bilahari for his very insightful views and thoughts about China, even after two years since the time of the session. I guess even though you left MFA, you never really leave the Foreign Service.

Knowing not the language and understanding now the inner culture, they spout the regurgitations of the so-called experts from America - wholly useless as independent thought.

I would like to hear from BK on how "fair" the US government is comparing to the China government's so-called "unfair" practices.

No comparison, no harm. Only when people are facing this pandemic, they start to learn what things China have done right. The rise of China is not magical. There must be things the leaders of the CCP continuously done right over the past 40 years of reform. The question should be do you believe they will continue to be on the right track of their development plan?

@@mccaboy You must be ignorant to what has been happening in the world. It's true corruption is a serious problem to every country in the world, not just China. Unfortunately only China's CPC openly announce a series of policies as well as rules and laws to fight against it. The leadership of CPC is taking this very seriously. Compared to the US you know Pelosi is the most successful investor in the world, and Buffett is nothing closer to her. Why? Corruption in the West is structural deeply implanted with their political system. I have said in many occasions, it's not how successful China has achieved, certainly China did and will continue to, but more importantly it's the whole West has proved to the world their political elites, their political systems and even social organization have deep problems and flaws that cause them to fool around but achieve nothing. So it suddenly turns out China's achievement so bright and being jealous to become a threat to the power of the West.

@@tanglancelot9233 you asked the question n u attack the answer. What a illogic response. China needs to get the corruption and better economic planning right. Environment issues and planning, and building up the middle class is also important. The light from China is so strong that it may have blinded my vision like yours.

@@mccaboy I have said China has made achievement and will continue to. What's wrong with that? There are and still will be a lot of problems and difficulties faced by China in their way towards national rejuvenation. Same to the West and that's even more to them now than ever.

@@tanglancelot9233 precisely that's what I said. Your 1st response is over the top. I agree that every country has its great potential n problems. Good leadership deals with them wisely n responsibly..some for worse Like in Sri Lanka.. Some for better.. China has done well. There r issues going forward, there are good things as well. You asked the question. I answered. I think corruption n good economic management needs to be continually dealt with and citizens need to feel that they are being heard. Ie lately there are issues of people refusing to pay for their housing loans because of poor workmanship... Gov need to have standards n laws so that the people are not taken advantage off... Etc. Its an ongoing leadership issues of knowing how much law and order to employ.. Cheers

Bilahari was never known to be an expert of China. Not sure why he was asked to speak on this topic. Any China follower would have notice his info was all hollowed, lacked insight and poorly interpretated. If you don't agree, try George Yeo's lecture on China in Europe's Future and Europe in China's Future. The depth and breath of his China knowledge will show the contrast.
