Nothing like when a website makes you go right-click + inspect.

F12. Or CTRL+J, or even better CTRL+SHIFT+click on anything on the page. Much faster. Time is money. (macs use CMD+, some shortcuts may vary, also across browsers)

Thanks Theo. Since Ben Awad stopped posting regularly like 2 years ago you are now holding the spot for all the new and exciting things in the web world on youtube.

Good to know copy is something that's always top of mind for you. Some of the best advice I've ever received is, "Clear is better than clever." And that's always stuck with me. Bravo.
Bro what was that at 12:32 I think I heard something. 😂😂😂

This is so amazing, I get a lot of inspirations. Will soon start working on my own portfolio.
dan abramov's dangling parenthesis is such a GOAT move
This was so great! I really enjoyed watching! Thank You! 😊
I appreciate that youtube made it clear that i was not the only gentleman to rewind at the spike at 12:20
12:32 wtf was that 😂
such an amazing video! Thank you!
"My work has been featured multiple times by various publications 📚 and awards shows, including my 👩🏾 mom's Facebook Timeline. " Alex Pierce is the best, man!
Fun video! You should follow up with one about non portfolio stuff as well 😋

This video is so good, because I've been going to a lot of these websites and looking through the personal projects and blogposts and links (multiple sites have favorite things links). It feels like how web 1.0 must have felt

hopefully that doesn't hurt it in the algorithm since I'm spending less time on youtube... World has bad incentives sometimes. (Just a theory that it would affect it negatively though)
Loved the video. Even if I can't do shit, it is a lot of good ideas and goals.

This is really amazing! 🤓
The website "Making good shit since 2009" (Minute 23:40) is great, it reminds me on the movie "They Live".

I feel like the truck driving portfolio could have enemies that make it easier for you to run into key information if you're not driving in the right direction very fast.
Greg dev is honestly amazing
Theo, Can you make a vid about eslint and its formatting deprecations?
11:20 I honestly liked this so much; for one reason and that is colors and text are readable, even more than those modern sites that try to make fancy design but don't care as much about readability.
cant unsee T6 with your logo now
This is definitely the kind of inspiration I like to see
12:33 what was that sound 😂
Yoooo Greg with the RIT callout on his site.
Last one is crazy and inspiring
Has portfolio taken on a different meaning? Rauno's was first site that was actually a portfolio, i.e. collection of work, and not just a single layout. Jesse has a portfolio, Bruno has a portfolio. Bunch of others we just got to see the case but not the work.

No, most of these would not be good portfolios for job hunting. But those ones are by people who have established resumes already, so they don't need to lean on their portfolio to show their work. Instead they use their portfolio to show off their skills and personality. If you're a newer dev then you wouldn't want to make a portfolio like those at all, recruiters would skip you just from how difficult it is to tell what your actual projects and skills are.
the apple guy was spot on
What was the sound on 12:33 😂
I think a lot of these are cool, but in my opinion, they're made for other devs to go "wow". A non-dev looking to potentially hire you will be frustrated with a lot of these websites, and go to a more simple one that gives they what they need without the headache.
@healinbeet

I agree. I suppose more complex/eye-catching sites would make sense for senior developers, who will probably have another Senior/Staff developer check out their work before hiring them.
@michaelmannucci8585

@@healinbeet Maybe, but I don't think making "flashy" sites is that difficult. I'd be more interested in seeing how clean the code is and how the website performs. If it's flashy but gets 15% on Google PageSpeed, there's a problem lol
When is the next porfolio stream? I need to submit few bangers for you to review
The 2nd last site was an initiation LOL.
Depression hits when I look at how talented others are :(

Don't be depressed. Be inspired! Look at what they did and try to make it yourself. Succeed or fail, your skills will go up. And remember, you see an end product, not the struggle of how they got there.
I'm quite embarrassed of my portfolio, but the most important thing is to have one at all.
wut was that sound at 12:32 😂😂😂
I've literally never thought about my, web dev, portfolio [I specify web dev because I do very much think about my cinematography portfolio]
I was inspired by this video to think about what kinds of things I would like my portfolio to communicate… Thanks Theo!
What matters the most? A cool animated website or technologies you mentioned there?
dude i didn't even know about that overscrolling thing until now. what the hell, is this an apple thing????
Where do people find the time?
11:15 I don't really see anything interactive on Firefox , but looks great on video

after being able to have humoungous success and recockning in the field, you can afford to have a site like Dan Abramov.
Just saw the video. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I will definitely improve it in a second iteration.
Theo needs to watch Lain

I tried making a cool resume to stand out from the crowd... But then none of the automated resume-parsing tools that recruitment websites use nowadays could understand it anymore. That's the fastest way to crush someone's motivation I swear.
